Hello and welcome to out presentation.

We are Heiner Jacobs' class - Communicating with Signs. For the past two weeks we have created sign and symbols, worked with illustrations and photographs in order to communicate a story without using any text. We were given the option to choose one of two topics: My Generation or How I Spend My Money in One Week. There is no need for further explanation because the rest of the presentation is for you to interpret our work.

Blue sicky dots will be passed around. If anything seems unclear in the work please do not hesitate to ask the author of the work, but also place the sticky on the work itself.

Thank you and Enjoy!

About her work

a) What did you want to communicated with your design (beside “Generation” or “Spending Money”)?

I set myself the task of communicating “How I spend my money dur-ing a week” and rather than focusing in on the statical side of this, with quantities, I chose to focus on how to represent my week typically, and in doing so hopefully show my presonality. What I consume on a week to week basic varies greatly, so by adding an interactive chance element to my outcome I hoped to portray this. Another element that I chose to communicate is how spending money on different things effects my emotions. In essence, the aim of the game is to make it through a week without running out of money, while gaining as much happiness as possible.

b) How many dots did you receive?I received 1 blue dots.

c) What was the frequent question that you received the day of thepresentation?

On the day of the presentation, I was happy to find that a people were interacting with my ‘game’ and began to experience it as I had de-signed. Promoting discussion on how random consumption is.

c) What was the frequent question that you received the day of thepresentation?

At presantation the students couldn’t understand, why I spent more money for my cell phone than on food. They miss the fact that I’m live with my family so I don’t have to spent money for rent or food.

b) How many blue dots did you receive?I just received 4, all at the bottom of the series / the strip with the dura-ble expenditure.

c) What was the frequent question that you received the day of thepresentation?

“What do the icons at the bottom row?”

About her work

a) What did you want to communicated with your design (beside “Generation” or “Spending Money”)?

With my three pictures I mainly wanted to show the change in the resi-dential design made within the 3 generations. Additionally, I have my own personal experience of course design in the living spaces of my grandparents and parents, as well as my own generation, ie my own body or my incorporate friends. In each picture there is also a small conflict. In the grandparent generation picture you can see in the background a picture of a woman from the 50s, which is in contrast to the emanci-pated woman in the foreground of the picture. On the parents’ generation remember only the picture LPs, locked behind glass in the wild days of the 80s, while the furniture is designed in the conservative style. My generation combines pieces of furniture from the past with modern elements. The retro look, combined with modern technology and daz-zling colors are on display here. Ritual objects like the Ikea Billy book-case suggest the young age group. Nevertheless, a generationsgebun-denes residential design is hardly to determine.

b) How many blue dots did you receive?I got 6 dots.

c) What was the frequent question that you received the day of thepresentation?

In which history moment is the middle picture?

About his work

a) What did you want to communicated with your design (beside “Generation” or “Spending Money”)?

I got the theme (Spending Money) and I wanted to communicate, sim-ply, graphically, displaying differently than usual (calendar form), that was for me the real challenge.

b) How many blue dots did you receive?About 26

c) What was the frequent question that you received the day of thepresentation?

What people do not understand most often was 1st the double occu-pation of the Days of the Week once (line number to the outer circles and dotted lines the circle into 7 equal parts) and the icon in the inte-rior of the circle, where bills are marked with an arrow rotating drum (here everyone thought that the aggregate cost the outer circle would be while I really wanted to represent only other running costs ...;))!

About his work

a) What did you want to communicated with your design (beside “Generation” or “Spending Money”)?

My design represents an avarage week in my life. I want to show how much money I spend during seven days – and what for. The amount of money is illustrated by the size of the respective icon. That means that I spend most money on rent (for my appartment) and fewest on clothing. Monthly costs like rent are divided by four to represent the weekly share.

b) How many blue dots did you receive?Three.

c) What was the frequent question that you received the day of the presentation?

Many fellow students didn’t understand how I can spend so much money on fast food – and still be so slim :)
