Introduction: Conflict resolution is the process by which two or more parties engaged in a disagreement, dispute, or debate reach an agreement resolving it. Several skills are needed for you to resolve conflicts effectively. Activity: 1. Using the Wheel of Choice (attached) 2. Read scenario; student must find the solution using an option from the Wheel of Choice 3. Work through choice and discuss why they chose that option with siblings or adult SCENARIOS: 1. One of your friends always makes you play the game he/she want to play. 2. You want the basketball and so does Bobby. 3. Your two best friends have been ignoring you on the playground this week. 4. Your friend screams at you in the hallway. 5. A classmate tells you during art that your picture is ugly. 6. Ashley calls you stupid when you make a bad grade on a test. 7. George steals your pencils from your desk. 8. Both you and Jasmine want to use the same iPad in class. 9. A kid on the playground tells you your shirt is ugly. 10. Jennifer is making fun of a special needs student and you don’t like it. Summary: Students will recognize and develop a successful strategy for dealing with conflict. This skill can go a long way toward creating a peaceful environment. Peer mediation allows students to act as a moderator in discussions between other students trying to work out their differences. This can be successful as students can connect with their peers in ways that adults cannot.
