Jha Dr. Deependra Kumar Jha joined UPES as Vice Chancellor on
8th August, 2017. An astute professional with experience in research, teaching & academic administration, Dr. Jha has pursued the philosophy of outcome-based education and accreditation throughout his career. Being a thorough educator his expertise lies in development of academic programs, curricula and regulations.
Dr. Jha is recipient of several awards & honors in his career. He was awarded the Excellent Researcher Award at Hiroshima University, Japan for his outstanding academic
achievements for two consecutive years in 2008 & 2009; besides, receiving the prestigious Japanese Government Scholarship, Monbukagakusho, to pursue his postgraduate research from 2006 to 2010.

UPES Students win Rs. 20 Lakhs to
Develop Prototypes UPES teams participated in the University
Challenge of India Innovation Growth Programme 2.0 (IIGP), are amongst the top finalists. As winners each team has received funding of Rs. 10 lakhs to build prototypes of a submersible unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and space debris management system.
A six member team of UPES students will now be working to develop a prototype of low-cost Submersible Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The other winning team from UPES will be developing a prototype of symmetrical hyperloop for the management of space debris in low earth orbit.
IIGP 2.0. is a joint initiative of the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India; Lockheed
Martin Corporation; TATA Trusts; Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSTF); Federation of
Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI); MIT Energy institute; IIT Bombay; IIM
Ahmedabad to accelerate innovative Indian technologies into the global markets using world class
commercialization strategies and business development assistance.

Description: UPES will be developing a tool that will read the data available by NISAR and
implement the optimized algorithm to classification purpose.
• Electrical Department faculty received grant under SERB-Early Career Research Award for the following research project.
• Title of the Proposal: Development of a novel technology for production of hydrocarbon fuels from mixed Plastic waste

Dr. Ghosh in his talk elucidated on BARC’s NISURG-RUNA biogas plants which can handle any kind of biomass with no significant emissions. This technology consists of two stage reactor for efficient

International Certification Mr. Ajay Rawat, Faculty, UPES cleared DataBrick Developer
Certification for Apache Spark.
It's an international industry oriented certification in the field of Big Data. Databricks was founded by the team who created Apache® Spark™, and works with the open source community to continue to expand the project and make it easily accessible for enterprises and users alike.
The certificate has earned him in-to-out knowledge about developing, distributed applications on the Spark platform. He has gained knowledge about troubleshooting and fine tuning Big Data applications to get maximum performance on the distributed computing platform.

HANA and Analytics. With the migration to SAP HANA on the AWS cloud UPES has moved into the next level of computing in the enterprise application space.
SAP HANA is a in memory database providing high performance transaction with enhanced real-time analytics capabilities.
The project involved meticulous planning ensuring zero production downtime without disruption to business.

UPES launches Gen Next Tool
With an objective to provide a single window
clearance for all kinds of student grievances and
support requests, the Gen Next Tool was launched in
UPES.
The tool functions in real time and in time bound
mode for each grievance and support request. The
tool has a facility for the grievance being escalated to
the next level by the applicant in case of
dissatisfaction. It also has facility of automatic
escalation to the next level in case of non - receipt of
redressal in time at any level.
Any complaint/grievance would have a maximum of
3 levels to be seeked /redressed.

Student Discipline Committee initiates
The student DC is an important component of the DSA, comprising of student volunteers to support activities.
More than 700 applications across University were received for Initiation Ceremony of DC. After rigorous
process, 205 DC members of the team were shortlisted.
The Student DC Team provides DC cover to major events of the University including Fresher’s Party, UURJA,
Ignite and chapter events. The team checks students on Dress Code, Public Display of Affection, Conduct Issues,
Eve teasing issues etc. Their support to Team DSA and Proctorial Board helps in maintaining discipline in the
Campus and is worth appreciating.

Best Researcher Award and Best Teacher
Award
Mr. Ajay Lalwani, Country head of CIMA graced the occasion of award ceremony. 1st Position of Best Researcher award with a cash prize of Rs 25,000/- was awarded to Dr T.Joji.Rao. The 2nd position with a cash prize of Rs 15,000/- was secured by Dr Binod Kumar Singh whereas the 3rd Position with a cash prize of Rs 10,000/- was earned by Dr Tarun Dhingra. Dr Anshuman Gupta was awarded the special mention prize in the category of Articles. The special mention for Best Researcher was awarded to Dr Neeraj Anand and Dr Sumeet Gupta for their exemplary research contribution.
The Best Researcher Award was followed by the Best Teacher award
2017. The 1st Position of Best Teacher award with a cash prize of Rs 25,000/- was awarded to. Dr D.P. Singh. The 2nd position with a cash prize of Rs 15,000/- was secured by Dr Anil Kumar whereas the
3rd Position with a cash prize of Rs 10,000/- was awarded to Mr Avishek Ghosal. The special mention prize was awarded to Maj Gen. Dr S.P.S Narang and Dr Mohammed Yaqoot.
The Best Research Award and the Best Teacher Award was funded

completed under joint initiative
of departments of the college.
The motive of the Workshop
on was to provide students indepth understanding of financial markets and mutual funds. The deliberations covered career opportunities available for them in the BFSI sector.
Setting a platform for constructive discussion and deliberations, Dr Dayanand
Pandey, Director, College of Management and Economics Studies welcomed the
initiative and explained the changing facets of Financial Markets. The motivating
and eye-opening talk was delivered by well-renowned, highly esteemed and
richly experienced Expert Mr. Parvez Shaikh, AGM Training, and Mr.
Osho Krishnan Deputy Manager, Technical Research, Karvy Stock Broking Ltd.

Suyash Jain & Kritika Navetia , students of BBA - Retail
Management course are always enthusiastic about creating
a business plan which deliver value and also solve problem
of the consumers. This team participated in many B - Plan
competitions and won many a times. The recent addition is
from E - Summit of IIT Kanpur to Delhi Management Fest to
i5Summit in IIM Indore.
The team participated in i5Summit 2017 in IIM Indore on
19 th - 20
th August 2017 (Central India's Largest
Entrepreneurship Summit at IIM Indore) to present their
ideas in front of investors. Their venture name is “Foodie
Indian” and this B - Plan was successful and got a positive
response from the investor from Edelweiss. They got funds
for their startup business plan for operations.

Run For Life 31st August
Mini Marathon was organized across colleges of UPES under Road Safety and Anti-Substance Abuse initiative. The motto of “Run for Life” was to spread awareness among the young students and the residents of nearby villages including School Students about “Road Traffic Safety” and against “Drug-Abuse”.
350 active participants including Students, Faculty and Staff came forward for active participation. Besides, 64 students from Senior Cambridge School participated as the guest participants. The participants were received at finish line which was in the Bidholi Sports Ground.
The event was organized majorly under four categories including students male & female and staff male & female categories. There
were few special categories also for external participants for marathon.

National Awards to UPES Law
Students The College takes pride in announcing that UPES Law course
students won awards under various categories of National Moot Court Competitions at different cities.
The students earned Best Delegation Award at Bhopal and Delhi and Best Speaker and Runner Up Trophy at Amity
University. This included Vaidehi Parek, B.A.LL.B., Akrati
Goswami, B.Com.LL.B., Sarika Rai, B.A.LL.B, who represented UPES at the Amity Madhya Pradesh’s National Moot Court Competition 2017.
Another team stood as Runner up of the competition. The team also won Best speaker award.
The student delegation from second year of law, won the Best Delegation Award along with individual awards in Bhojpal Youth Parliament, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh and Chanakya Neeti National Youth Parliament, New Delhi.

UPES Celebrates 70 years of India’
Independence UPES took this initiative with full zeal and enthusiasm and
organized various activities.
All students, faculty and non-teaching staff at UPES took a pledge to make our nation free from Terrorism, Caste, Corruption, Uncleanliness and Poverty on 28th August 2017 as per the initiative taken by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
A talk by eminent educationist on Freedom Struggle was delivered by Dr. Pooja Gupta who is an eminent
educationist and did her research on National Freedom Struggle.
UPES Celebrates its 15th UPES celebrated its ‘15th Foundation Day’ at its Bidholi
Campus. The celebrations began with a ‘Hawan of the Day’ conducted by Acharya Dr. Dhannanjay (Principal, Gurukul Paundha) and his disciples. Senior members of UPES fraternity, which also included the existing members serving the University since its formative years, participated in the Hawan.
Architect of India’s Light Combat Aircraft ‘Tejas’ - Dr Kota Harinarayana was invited to deliver a talk on the ‘Foundation Day.’
51 adopted “Daughters of UPES” were also invited on this occasion and were gifted a formal Indo-western dress each of their choice. Each of the senior
