Communiqué Volume Sixteen February 2016 Page 1 Co-Presidents' Corner By Janice Quattrocchi (parent of Anthony, Class of 2017) and Jessica Evans (parent of Emileigh, Class of 2017) The second half of the school year is in full swing and we know that many of you are counting down to the first day of spring and everything the promise of warmer weather brings. With that said, it’s still hard to believe that graduation will be held in less than four months! We are very proud of our seniors as we see the flags displayed in the cafeteria representing the colleges and universities from which they have received acceptance letters. Every acceptance is a testimony to the exceptional education at CHS. The PSFA Graduation Award application process is now in progress. Any senior with a grade point average of 90 or higher whose family has been a member of the PSFA during their tenure at CHS should have received an application form which must be completed and returned to the Guidance Office by April 22, 2016. At that point, the evaluation process to identify the award recipients will begin. Elections for the 2016-2017 PSFA Officers will be held at the May PSFA meeting. We are sure the elections will result in outstanding leadership for the coming school year. Officer positions are open for Co-President, Vice President, Treasurer & Recording Secretary. Please nominate yourself or someone else whom you feel would be an asset as an officer of the PSFA (see nomination form, page 2). In addition to these important roles, we will also look to assign leadership (and volunteers!) for some important committees next year, including Hospitality, Membership, Alumni, Fundraising & Public Relations. Please sincerely consider which talents you have to contribute to the school. The PSFA is hard at work on the 12th Annual Dinner and Gift Raffle, “Game Night!” which will be held on April 9th st at Jumping Brook Country Club. Please consider volunteering your time to this fun event! See ways to contribute to the Dinner and Gift Raffle in the communiqué. We hope to see many of our CHS parents at the PSFA meeting on March 3rd. If you cannot attend the meeting, but would like to volunteer for any of the upcoming events, please contact one of the PSFA officers. Annual Graduation Awards Once again, the PSFA will present monetary awards of $500 each to a select group of Seniors upon graduation. Application forms will be distributed from the Guidance Office to all Seniors with a cumulative grade point average of 90 or above. All interested Seniors should complete the application and return it to their counselors no later than Friday, April 22, 2016. Bring Your Talents to the PSFA Executive Board!

RUN FOR OFFICE

Elections for CHS PSFA officers will be held in May. Each year the PSFA seeks candidates who are willing to dedicate their time and talents to serve as officers in the organization. We encourage all members of the PSFA who want to offer service to the school to consider nominating themselves. In addition, if you feel there is a member of the PSFA who would be an asset to the Executive Board, please nominate them. Please do not let consideration of whether there are other candidates for an office influence your decision to run! The democratic process of election will allow the PSFA members to identify those whom they feel would best represent their interests and be of most service to CHS, and, in addition, will strengthen the PSFA. The Executive Board consists of six positions: two Co-Presidents who preside over the meetings; one Vice President who assists the Co-Presidents and acts on their behalf in their absence; one Treasurer who keeps accurate records of all PSFA monies and pays all approved bills for the PSFA; one Recording Secretary who keeps the minutes and attendance for all PSFA meetings; and one Corresponding Secretary who is responsible for sending out proper notices for all regular meetings and handling PSFA correspondence. In order to be considered by the Nominating Committee, you must be a registered active member of the PSFA. Nomination forms will be distributed via this issue of the Communiqué. The PSFA Nominating Committee is scheduled to present a slate of candidates for office in April, and will hold elections for the 2016-2017 Executive Board at our meeting in May. Nominations will be accepted up until the election date. Please fill in the form below to nominate yourself or another PSFA member and return in a sealed envelope to the school office by Friday, April 1, 2016 addressed: Attention: PSFA Nominating Committee or email it to: [email protected] ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------

CHS Cultural Communications Club Activities

The Cultural Communications Club is holding a Zumbathon at Gold's Gym in Howell on March 13 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Tickets will be sold for $10 in school the week leading up to the event, with all ticket proceeds going to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Friends and family outside of CHS are welcome.

In February, the club volunteered at Special Olympics bowling events in Lakewood and Hazlet.

On March 31, CCC will have their annual senior citizen breakfast at the Howell Senior Center.

Breakfast sales will continue to be held every Friday morning and exit sales will continue to be held every Monday afternoon. Cookie, chips, and salsa donations are greatly appreciated and should be dropped off in Señora Campbell’s room.

The club's biggest event of the year, the Cultural Festival, will take place on April 8. Students create their own country displays complete with costumes, artifacts, fun facts, and food samples. The three best country displays win monetary prizes. There are also performances and a feast. As there are over 300 guests in attendance, CCC needs lots of food donations for the feast. The club would really appreciate it if you asked local restaurants for donations or made a tray yourself. If interested, please contact Samantha Dellis at [email protected].

As always, the proceeds from all the Cultural Communications Club's events go to St. Jude Children's Hospital so all donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your continued support.

Career Day by SkillsUSA &The National Technical Honor Society

On Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, CHS opened its doors to 24 professionals from around New Jersey as well as Paul Trani, Adobe trainer Skyping from South America. Though most of the professionals held careers in our theme based courses, there were many other professionals from all walks of life. Students were able to choose which presentations they wanted to attend for six sessions. The final presenter of the day was Mr. Joel Litvin, the recently retired Vice President of NBA Operations. Mr. Litvin shared interesting anecdotes about his years working with NBA players, difficult situations he encountered, as well as tips on loving your career and finding the perfect career/life balance. The day was a huge success. The PSFA provided lunch, refreshments and gifts to the presenters. We thank them for their generosity.
