Buildings account for about 40% of the total U.S.energy consumption, and 30-50% of that energy isconsistently wasted. Despite the obvious economicand environmental benefits to energy efficiency,various key ingredients are necessary before the U.S.will realize significant progress. This presentation willreview the state of building energy efficiency in theU.S. and discuss various new and ongoing effortsaimed at unlocking the potential for energy efficiency.

Laurel’s Adult Language ClassesAt Laurel School, we are confident that anyone can learn amodern language. Recent research shows that learninganother language helps keep the brain flexible and nimbleand that it is an especially beneficial exercise for adults.Furthermore, it is our belief that the study of otherlanguages is a way to open windows into other culturesand that exposure to other cultures creates well-informed,knowledgeable world citizens.

The Laurel School Adult Language classes offerintroductory and intermediate instruction to adults andyoung adults (Grades 7-12). Classes are taught in thetarget language as much as possible, while also taking intoaccount the specific needs of adult learners. For thoseplanning to travel, there is a focus on how to navigate inthe target language and culture.

Each student is responsible for obtaining the books and materials required for the classes. No refunds oradjustments will be made after the first class or forabsences.
