Community Day - September 15th...maybe!

Local Construction Updates The north entrance of Kinross Circle is scheduled to

reopen in September. Lincoln Properties Group has be-gun construction on the third of five planned buildings that match the Cox headquarters building. Additionally, construction is winding down on a pipeline extension from Cobra Drive to Dulles airport. More information and contact numbers can be found at the VDOT website at www.virginiadot.org/projects.

Calling all golfers! By Lawrence Shorten

The annual CHHA Golf Tournament will be held in September. Please send an email to: [email protected] to indicate your preference on dates. Do weekends work better for you? (Realize that it will be more expensive.) Are you totally op-posed to teeing it up on a weekday?

(Cost is right, but then you may have to take off a day from work.) Please let me know how you feel about the date, and I’ll publish the date/place in next month’s newsletter. Get your swing in motion!

Poet Laureate Post Remains Empty No one has claimed the laurels for the position

of Community Poet. We did not receive any entries at all.

David Howlett, the Board of Direc-tors poetry consultant, expressed disap-pointment. "We know there are poets in the community - we just didn't get the word out." Mr. Howlett said that the competition would be sched-uled again for early in 2008. "We want to have a poet laureate designated by the time of National Poetry Month, in April 2008. A community of our size should not be without one."

Community Poets are encouraged to hone their craft over the summer months.

Volunteers are desperately needed to help with Community Day. At the monthly meet-ing on Thursday, August 2nd, the Board will be deciding whether Community Day will go on as scheduled on September 15th from 3-6 PM, or whether it will be cancelled.

While not their preference, the Board realizes the sad reality that a only few volunteers cannot accomplish an event of this size. More people are needed to pull this off.

Individuals and groups are welcome. Talk with some

of your neighbors about volunteering together. Have your spouse or the grandparents bring the children while you work at an activity! Some of the activities which need volunteers include the moonbounces, face painting, bal-loon stations, games, setting up, and cleaning up.

Be an active member of your community, not just a passive resident. Meet some new friends!

Chantilly Highlands Homes Association Board of Directors Meeting

Thursday, July 12, 2007 Submitted by Paul Thurneysen

Minutes are tentative and will be reviewed and approved at the upcoming Board of Directors meeting.

Board Attendees: Chris Tacinelli, David Howlett, Im-rana Umar, Larry Miller, Paul Thurneysen

Absent Board members: Wendy Hunt, Jon Roe, Darin Welt

Homeowner attendees: 1 Paul Thurneysen called the meeting to order at 7:36

p.m. The June minutes were previously approved. Treasurer’s Report: One resident has requested the

release of a lien for prior unpaid dues and associated collection fees. The board will follow up with Rees Broome to ensure the account is current. A board member requested clarification as to whether or not the same resident had their home remodeling project approved by the ACC.

Community Facilities: New community center and playground signs will be installed in the next few weeks. Additional signs at neighborhood entrances were discussed.

The board is soliciting bids for community center re-pairs.

The board discussed a more stringent application policy for rental of the clubhouse and pool as well as dis-cussed financial penalties for violation of the rental agreement. The board voted unanimously to not re-fund the security deposit for a resident whose party significantly violated the terms of the rental agree-ment.

Land Management: A proposal to remove a dead tree along Jeannie Anna was approved.

Architectural Control Committee: The ACC is devel-oping an article to help residents fully understand the ACC and Resale package process. Additionally, the board discussed the process for requesting a waiver for ACC violations during the resale process. The enforcement of several egregious non-compliance issues was discussed.

Community Activities: The teen pool party is on

schedule. Community Day is still in dire need of vol-unteers or the board will have to decide by the next board meeting to continue with the event

Civic Affairs: Nothing new to report. Neighborhood Watch: Two juveniles in possession of

drugs were arrested late in the evening in early July near the intersection of Kinross and Glen Taylor. Neither juveniles was a resident of the neighborhood.

Long Range Planning: The Long Range Planning committee needs to complete a long range plan by the end of 2007.

Database: No open issues. Old Business: None New Business: None Meeting Adjournment: There being no additional new

business to discuss, Paul Thurneysen made a motion to adjourn the meeting, and David Howlett seconded it. The board unanimously approved the motion and the meeting was adjourned at 8:45pm.
