Eligibility - Ages and dates for each class vary. The grade level listed in the course title is the grade the student will enter in fall 2014.

Early Registration Discount - Register on or before JUNE 1st and receive a discount on your course fees. Early registration discount does not apply to YEP Supervised Lunch.

Registration & Emergency Information - For your convenience, you can register online at www.heartland.edu/communityEd, or by mail with the registration form found at the back of this booklet. Please make sure to complete all emergency information requested for your child(ren) so we are able to admit them in YEP programs. Instructors will have emergency contact information for the duration of the class. You will receive a confirmation letter in the mail after your child(ren) has been enrolled.

Financial Assistance - YEP offers a limited number of need-based scholarships. For more information or an application, please visit www.heartland.edu/communityEd or contact us at (309) 268-8160.

Full or Canceled Classes - Community Education reserves the right to limit the enrollments or cancel any class due to insufficient enrollments. For this reason, please register early to reserve your place in the class of your choice. Every effort will be made to notify registrants that a class has been filled or canceled. Registrants may choose alternate courses or receive full refunds.

Refund Policy - Unless otherwise stated in the class description, if you wish to drop a class you must do so no later than two business days before the first class session to receive a refund. After that time, no refunds will be issued. Unfortunately, we are unable to issue refunds or credits due to missed classes. No refunds will be given after the class has ended. Payments for course materials, supplies or textbooks are non-refundable. To drop a class, please call (309) 268-8160.

Behavior Policy - All students are expected to maintain appropriate and respectful behavior while attending YEP classes. If a child is disruptive, disrespectful or inappropriate, or jeopardizes the safety of others and staff intervention fails to yield results, parents will be contacted. If the behavior continues, staff reserves the right to dismiss the student from class without a refund.

Safety - Students should arrive no earlier than ten minutes before class begins and be picked up immediately following the dismissal of their class each day. For your child’s safety, a check-in and check-out signature by the parent/caregiver will be required each day.

Location - YEP classes are held on the Heartland Community College campus and at many partner sites in the area. Please have your student report to the class location listed in the confirmation letter. A map will be included for your convenience.

BLACK ROCKET PROGRAMS

All of the technology courses on the following two pages are taught with curriculum designed by our educational partner, Black Rocket. These classes are created to be collaborative in nature to emphasize the creative process. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Make Your First Video Game Grades 3-5 & 6-8 COMPNCR 1950 & COMPNCR 1957 If you love playing video games, this is the camp for you! Make your first video game in this one-of-a-kind class that shows you the crucial keys to designing your first 2-D game. Conceptualization, play experience, challenge levels, graphics and elements, music and sound, software, and simple coding are just some of the concepts that we’ll explore. Learn how to really get into the game because you made it yourself! No prior experience necessary just a desire to have fun. Summer Horseback Riding Camp Grades 3-12 RECREATN 1362 Spend the morning outdoors riding and working with horses! Then demonstrate your horse riding skills in a special show. Whether you are a beginner or a skilled rider, you’ll love this week-long, half-day camp. You’ll be put in small groups either by age or riding ability to maximize your fun and safety. Learn the parts of the saddle and bridle. Try your hand at tacking-up and untacking the horse. You’ll also learn about horse care and bathing, safety and trailer loading.
