Dear Educators:

Welcome to the 2010-2011 Community Engagement and Education Catalog. As you look through this catalog to find the right learning opportunities for your students, don’t forget that we have many activities and events for you, your friends and your families to enjoy!

Throughout these pages, you’ll find entertaining and educational field trip opportunities for your students, professional development offerings to help you integrate these field trips into your classroom and more ways than you can imagine for you and your students to interact with local and national artists and other educators. plus, you’ll be surprised how easily everything fits with the work you already do in your classroom.

As always, we are proud to present performances throughout the school year for those teachers who make the community their classroom and wish to introduce their students to live theater. For our younger audiences, leo lionni’s Swimmy, Frederick & Inch by Inch returns and Mo Willem’s Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Musical hops into Cleveland. For older students, we are presenting lemony snicket’s The Composer Is Dead and Beakman on the Brain.

We also are proud to announce our second annual International Children’s Festival, May 3-7, 2011. During that week, students can see performances by international artists, create work to be showcased at the festival and participate in special festival activities. There is more information on page 6.

We thank our 22 partners in performance school districts for their continued commitment to introducing students to the magic of live theater. see page 8 for details on how your school can become involved.

Much gratitude is owed to the donors, foundations and sponsors who make our programs possible. playhousesquare is committed to providing arts learning opportunities of the highest quality to enrich the lives of your students and the members of our community. In fact, it is an important part of our not-for-profit mission, and we raise $1 million annually to support our community engagement and education programming.

planning appropriate field trips to augment classroom lessons and providing engaging learning experiences for your students takes time, and we know your time is precious. We’ve designed this catalog as your complete and easy-to-use guide to arts education programs, performances and activities at playhousesquare. If we can be of any assistance as you plan your visit or develop an arts-integrated curriculum for your classroom or school, please call us at 216-348-7909.
