Burcote Wind is currently consulting on proposals for a wind farm comprising up to
36 turbines on a site 6.7 kilometres east of Carsphairn and 11.6 kilometres west of
Moniaive in the Castle Douglas and Glenkens area of Dumfries and Galloway.
If approved, the Longburn wind farm would produce more than 280,000 megawatt
hours (MWh) of electricity, enough to power more than 60,000 homes. That’s
equivalent to 88% of all homes in Dumfries and Galloway.
The site benefits from an excellent natural wind resource, with average wind speeds of
around 8 metres per second (m/s). Its location is also relatively remote, with the
nearest significant settlement located more than four miles to the west. Local
topography and surrounding woodland will also help to mitigate visual and landscape
impacts on major settlements.
Burcote Wind is aware of the sensitivities around windfarm developments, which is why
we are undertaking an extensive period of community consultation. We want to hear
the opinions of local people on our
proposals before we submit a planning
application, so that their views can
help to shape development at the site.

Burcote Wind is committed to ensuring the local
community benefits from having a wind farm in
their area. We will be exploring options with local
groups for how a Community Benefit Fund worth
£5,000 per megawatt, £540,000 per annum, or
£13.5 million over the lifetime of the wind farm,
can best be deployed to support the local
community.
We are keen to hear your views about local
projects and priorities where you would like to
see the proposed Community Benefit Fund
invested should the project go ahead. You can
contact us directly using the contact details
below, or come along to the public exhibitions in
October, talk to members of the project team,
and fill out a feedback form.

Chairman
Burcote Wind
Burcote Wind is an independent, forward-
thinking renewable energy company, active
throughout the UK. We specialise in onshore
wind energy projects from the identification
and design stage right through to construction
and operation.
At every stage, we involve local communities
to make sure they get the information they
need and reap the rewards from having a
wind farm in their area.
We believe passionately in the need for
renewable energy but are also acutely aware
of the necessity for sensitive and sustainable
development. This means we take great care
to make sure our wind farm proposals
are sympathetic to the needs of local people
and the local environment.
At Burcote Wind, we believe strongly in the need for ongoing dialogue
about our projects.
So right from the start we consult with the public, listen carefully and make
changes to accommodate local people’s views where possible.
As well as holding public exhibitions of our plans, a survey of local residents
was carried out in September 2012 and we will continue to make
information available via direct mailings, on our website, and through the
local media.
We’re also always pleased to hear people’s
views via e-mail or over the phone.
