COMMUNITY GARDENS

Serving communities throughout the Fox Valley

More than 1,500 adults and children have

raised a portion of their own food as a result of

The Community Garden Partnership’s garden

rental program.

Nonprofit food pantries and shelters in the

area receive regular food donations from the

community gardens. Over 3,000 pounds of

produce have been donated each year since 2001.

It is estimated that food travels an average of

1,500 miles to get to our grocery stores.

That is a 22% increase over the last 25 years,

according to the WorldWatch Institute.

Demonstration gardens serve as an educational

model for participating gardeners and other

groups throughout our community.

UW-Extension offices act as liaisons between

gardeners and the UW system’s extensive

resources—including pest control, safe food

practices, nutritional approaches to gardening,

current cultural practices, and environmentally

friendly gardening techniques.

Community gardens provide multiple

opportunities for community organizations and

businesses to come together strengthening

existing partnerships and developing new ones.

Community gardening is the action of developing

public assets that will sustain and enhance each of

the communities in which they exist.
