Mrs.Roopa Rao was invited to review a research article on Ergonomics for the International Journal of Forensic Engineering and Management, Special Issue: HWWE 2017 Ergonomics and Human Factors Engineering International Journal for Forensic Engineering and Management, Inderscience Publishers Ltd., in May 2019.

Mrs.Roopa Rao was invited as an expert on consumerism, to present a talk on “Food Fraud” at the National Conference, “Food Adulteration and Food Safety” organised by the Council for Fair Business Practices (CFBP) in collaboration with the Food, Civil supplies and Consumer protection Department, Maharashtra Government on 29th March 2019.

Mrs.Roopa Rao was invited to motivate the South Mumbai Colleges affiliated to university of Mumbai to participate in Avishkar 2018 by narrating my experiences at the 1st Workshop “Avishkar 2018” organised by the Avishkar Committee, University of Mumbai at D. G. Ruparel College of Arts, science and Commerce on 1st September 2018. Delivered a motivational talk “My Journey - Avishkar 2017 – 18.”

Mrs.Roopa Rao was invited to present the report of Seminars and workshops “Reaching the Unreached” organised from 19th – 28th August 2018 at the CFBP’s (council for Fair Business Practices) AGM (Annual General body Meeting) held on 22nd September 2018. Eminent industrialists, Mrs.Rajashree Birla, Mr.Shekhar Bajaj, Justice Srikrishna, Ms. Dolly Thakore attended this meeting.

6. EXTENSION ACTIVITIES/ Industrial Visit: A. DEPARTMENT LEVEL

Mrs Sunita Jaiswal coordinated the extension field work and following activities were conducted Seminar Presentation: As part of Field work each student was guided to work on topics related

to social issues (Environmental issues, Drug addiction, 3 R’s, waste Management, Superstition) and presented in class. The same topic was used for poster making and each poster was displayed in different sections of college premises.

Poster Presentation: Each student had to prepare a poster on their seminar topic. These posters were displayed in different areas of college to create awareness amongst the students. Students were assessed on the basis of topic selected, Presentation technique, and

communication skill. Celebration of International Breast Feeding Week: Coordinated, Guided and Organized.This

year’s theme “BREASTFEEDING Foundation of Life.Programmes organized at Family Welfare Services Colaba.Around 40 women participated in the activities Students performed Role play, street play and Presented Flash cards and gave importance of Breast feeding, myths related to Breast feeding and importance of nutrients both during pregnancy time as well as during Lactation. They also demonstrated the recipe of Multigrain Ladoo for Lactating mothers. Various posters on Breast feeding were made to be displayed in different sections of the college.

Coordinated and Organized an Awareness programme through Street Play Topics covered: JAGO GRAHAK JAGO. Awareness campaign on Food Adulteration, Demonstration on Fake Products and Street Play were organised in coordination with Family Welfare Services Colaba

Department of Life Long Learning and Extension: Coordinated with Department ofLifelong

Learning and Extension, where the department took over a project under SWS which takes care of women issuesThe Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension [DLLE] (known earlier as Department of Adult and Continuing Education and Extension) established on October 12, in the Year 1978 and has been recognized as a statutory Department of the University of Mumbai since 1994 to promote a meaningful and sustained rapport between the Universities and the community. Constant experimentation has enabled the DLLE to fine-tune the use of Project Work as an academic tool for the evaluation of Extension Work. Students conducted survey on Women Empowerment. And also analysed the data under the project of DLLE. 32 students were regularly guided to successfully complete the project under DLLE.

UDAAN - The flight of extension Intercollegiate DLLE FEST

Every year The Department of Life-long Learning and Extension organizes the annual extension work festival titled”UDAAN - the flight of extension” during the months of January - February in a decentralized way in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Sindhudurg districts, the jurisdiction of University of Mumbai wherein the students of extension work from various colleges come together and showcase their performances through street play and exhibit posters on the activities undertaken by them on seven extension work projects viz Annapurna yojna (APY) Career project (CP), industry orientation project ( IOP), information and communication technology project(

ICT), national institute of open schooling( NIOS), population education club(PEC), Survey of women’s status(SWS), as a part of street play and poster competitions.

15 TY CRM students participated in street play of 8 minute on the topic of women empowerment where the 3 scenes were shown related to different issues related to women’s in society.

2 students participated in Poster competition with the theme Women empowerment. 20 street play performances and poster were displayed.

Field work activities:Coordinated and guided with four centres Family service centre,Chuim Community Centre and Consumer Guidance Society of India and Council for Fair Business Practices and students towards extension activities

For students to complete their 20 hrs of community extension services. Following activities were conducted in different centres.

Family welfare centre:

7th August2018 TY BSc students organized an awareness programme as part of Breast Feeding Week Celebrations 2018.The theme of this year given by WABA was “BREASTFEEDING Foundation of Life. “Theprogramme was conducted in collaboration with Family Welfare Center an NGO working for the welfare women and children in the slum area at colaba.40 women participated in the programme. Students performed Role play, street play and Presented Flash cards and gave importance of Breast feeding, myths related to Breast feeding and importance of nutrients both during pregnancy time as well as during Lactation. They also demonstrated the recipe of Multigrain Ladoo for Lactating mothers.

Various posters on Breast feeding were made to be displayed in different sections of the college.

Chuim Community Centre:

This year Department coordinated with NIRMALA NIWAS SANSTHA, CHUIM VILLAGE .This Sanstha consists of those ladies who want to start their own business from home .They requested our department to conduct three sessions to teach them Jewellery making, paper bags and envelops and flower making

1st Activity 14th August ’18 Monday As part of entrepreneurial skills Work shop consisted of flower making at its utility to generate income. Students taught them flowers made out of duplex sheets, foam and tissue papers. Marketing strategies were also discussed where in they use flowers in different articles like bouquet, clips, garlands, etc. All the women were very enthusiastic while working on it. Each of the students demonstrated different types of flowers and personally helped the one who were finding it difficult. Basic and simple techniques were used. Later students also discussed how to determine the cost price of these products, from where to source the material, how to decide the profit margin and where to sell the products.

2nd Activity 20thAugust ’18 MondayPaper bags and envelops with different techniques were taught which could be used for different purposes such as bags for carrying light weight things and envelopes can be used as greeting or for sending good wishes ,input of marketing strategies were also provided. This session was conducted on 20th August’18 Monday. There were total 34 women who were divided in two groups. All the participants were given the materials for making

paper bags and envelops. Various quelling technique were also taught with thin strips of paper used as decoration on paper bag or envelop.

Enough time was spent to demonstrate the articles. It was seen that each participant was confident enough to make the bags and envelops. The ladies enjoyed the workshop as they got to learn something new which they can make it at home and use it for different thing like to keep money, letter or put a gift in the bag and give it to someone.

3rd activity: On 24th September’18 Monday: Students conducted workshop on jewellery making .In the community centre students taught the ladies different types of jewellery like earrings, choker, bangles, necklace etc. session were conducted how to make earrings of tassel, beads, laces etc. Angle bangles were decorated with laces, beads and ribbons. Students taught choker of different thicknesses and how to attach its lock and key.

There were approximately 40 ladies. They were very good learners and they were happy when they got to know and learn different accessories.

Consumer Guidance Society of India

Coordinated and organised a workshop in collaboration with Consumer Guidance society of India for SYBSc and TYBSC CRM students .The topic was Investor Awareness Program and Cosmeticlabelling. The programme was organised on 15th March is known for World Consumers Right Day.

The goal of Financial Fitness is to inform and inspire teens to sharpen their skills in money management, consumerism, and financial planning. Although the income of your typical teen is limited, they tend to spend a tremendous amount of money.Financial Wellness involves the process of learning how to successfully manage financial expenses. Money plays a critical role in our lives and not having enough of it impacts health as well as academic performance.

Another component of the workshop was Product packaging and labelling. Packaging is essential as it is used for the identification of the products in marketing. It enhances the appearance of the label for promoting the product. This is the major importance of labelling in marketing. In addition, labelling also helps to provide the information about a product to the prospective customer. This function fulfils informative purpose of using a tag.

The mission of CFBP Council for Fair Business Practices is to, "Create an environment where Busines Confidence is built through Best Business Practices and is fostered in an atmosphere of trust and respectbetween providers of goods and services and their users for the ultimate benefit of society and the nation.” “Reaching the Unreached” was a common goal which both the organisations feel for deeply and hence theConference was initiated with enthusiasm and vigour, under the able guidance of Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Geeta Ibrahim and President, Mrs.KalpanaMunshi.

The entire Department staff and students Coordinated, Planned and organised the pre-conference activities in tune with the CFBP-Godrej Film Festival. Four competitions were planned to be held from 23rd – 29th August 2018 on the themes – JaagoGrahakJaago, Fair Business Practices and MeraHaq- My Rights: i. Poster making ii. Slogan Writing iii. Street Play iv. PowerPoint Presentation The College of Home Science, NirmalaNiketan in collaboration with Council for Fair Business Practices organised a one-day national conference on the 31st August 2018. The pre-conference activities started from the 23rd August 2018. Nirmala Niketan, College of Home Science, is a Christian Institution, managed by a Society, registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and a Public Trust Act 1950 and all of those who are members of the congregation of the Daughters of the Heart of Mary in India. The Society is managed by a governing Body whose Ex-officio Chairperson is the Provincial of the Province of India of the Daughters of the Heart of Mary. The college aims at the total development of human beings, by providing learning opportunities to empower them with knowledge, skills and attitudes, to face personal and professional challenges with confidence, inculcating values of respect, commitment and concern for the service of others, thereby enabling them to make a positive contribution to the society in the 21st century.

T. Y. B. Sc. Students of the Department of Community Resource Management, NirmalaNiketan went a step further during their promotional campaign…. they planned to organise these competitions at the college/schools where students were keen on participating but couldn’t reach the venue for the competition! Competitions were thus held at four venues other than NirmalaNiketan College, Mumbai -20. On 23rd August 2018, four T.Y. CRM students of College of Home Science, NirmalaNiketan conducted the poster making and Slogan writing competitions at Pune VidyarthiGriha's VidyaBhawan High School, Ghatkopar East At Advocate Chandan Singh Solanki English High School, Virar East on 24th August 2018. Three T. Y. CRM students of NirmalaNiketan, explained the theme and motivated 35 participants.

23rd August 2018 - The venue for the competitions was Pune VidyarthiGriha'sVidyaBhawan High School, Ghatkopar East. Seventy-four students from 7th to 10th standard participated from this school. We received 66 entries for poster making and 10 entries for slogan writing.

24th August 2018 - competitions were conducted at two venues… NirmalaNiketan and at Advocate Chandan Singh Solanki English High School, Virar East. Thirty-five participants were enrolled for poster making (18) and slogan writing (23) competitions.

At NirmalaNiketan we had a hectic day on 24th…. With all 4 competitions being conducted along with the live demonstration of “Detection of Food Adulteration” and Display of Fake and Counterfeit Products.” We had participants from five organisations. NirmalaNiketan Junior College – New Marine Lines, Anjuman-I-Islam’s Junior College of Science & Commerce - CST, Kannada Bhavan Republic High School -Fort, NirmalaNiketan College of Home Science – New Marine Lines and Anjuman-I-Islam’s BJAH College of Home Science – CST.

28th August 2018 – The venue was Pune Vidyarthi Griha's Vidya Bhawan Junior College, Ghatkopar East. Twenty-six students participated in poster making (15), slogan writing (02) and street play (08) competitions. The poster making and slogan writing competitions were conducted at the participants college and they were invited to the host college for street play performance. Single participant from P. G. Garodia International School, Ghatkopar was requested to join the competition at Pune VidyarthiGriha'sVidyaBhawan Junior College.

29th August 2018 – The final day of the pre-conference competitions saw a surge of last-minute entries. PowerPoint presentations and street plays were specially scheduled for this day. Experts invited as judges are: Ms. NikiHingad, Director – NHAF (Poster Competition); Mr. Niranjan Jhunjhunwala (Slogan writing); Mr. Lopes (Street Play competition).

The conference “Reaching the Unreached” was scheduled for the 31st August 2018. Mrs. KalpanaMunshi, President – CFBP was the Chief Guest and the Key note speaker. Mrs. Munshi encouraged the audience by mentioning that they were the future leaders of our country. She also mentioned that our best memories are the ones when we were caring for others and helping others. Advocate Anand Patwardhan was the invited speaker. He emphasised on how making a complain as a consumer is extremely important by citing his personal examples. He also amazed the audience by the astonishing works of his father towards education in the rural areas. He also stated that a feeling of being aware is very important. Mrs. Asha Idnani, grievance cell, CFBP was the next speaker. She listed and explained the rights of an Indian consumer. She also stated that the consumer may not always be right. Hence a consumer must be aware and should carry out their responsibilities. She also listed the criteria to be remembered when shopping online. Ms. Idnani shared incidents of medical negligence and cheating as well.

Mrs. KalpanaMunshi also inaugurated the research poster display.

Prizes the various competitions conducted at different venues were announced on 31st August 2018 in the parallel session. The winner received the certificate of achievement and the cash prize from Dr. (Mrs.) Geeta Ibrahim, Principal – College of Home Science, NirmalaNiketan and Ms.Niki Hingad – Director, NHAF.

The conference was well-appreciated for its content of sessions and the College of Home Science, NirmalaNiketan’s hospitality. Thanks to the constant support and encouragement by Mrs. Munshi and her team, the Department of Community Resource Management (CRM) looks forward to more such collaborative consumer related workshops and activities in future.

All the poster competition winners were invited in the festival and were honored with CFBP Medals and certificates. 6 winners were from our college Commercial Arts section Polytecnique.

Well known Film actor Mr. Shatrughan Sinha was the chief Guest and honored the college with the Trophy.

Mrs SunitaJaiswal Coordinated, Organised and accompanied students to Rural Camp to Kolad on: 4th, 5th and 6th February’19 (We visited 3 villages Dhankanhe, Mandavsheth and Yashwant vadi).Different activities were planned for children, women, adolescent girls and Animators. Activities for Children Students were taken to municipal and Zila Perished schools and conducted painting competitions, art and craft activities where children were taught different techniques of painting such as sponge painting, finger painting, hand painting, paints and papers were sponsored by the students and the same painted paper was used for Origami where children were taught to make lotus flower and dog. Children were also taught that lotus is a national flower and Dog is a domestic animal. Children enjoyed the art and craft activity. Colouring competition was organized where children were given sheets with different motifs and crayons the youngest child participating in the competition was 3 years old. All the children enjoyed participating in the competition. Prizes were distributed for both the activities. Stationaries, colours i.e. crayon and Rangeela water colours and gifts, chocolates, cakes were sponsored by the students.

Students performed Puppet show .The theme covered was health,hygiene and sanitation, A friend in need is a friend in Deed. Balwadi Teachers liked the puppets very much and asked for it so that they could continue showing the puppete shows with different theme. Activities for women:The activities planned for women were entrepreneurial skill i.e. Income generating activities wherein they can sit at home and use their spare time to earn a penny for themselves. These activities consisted of flowers made out of foam sheet which were pasted on the plain Tic-Toc clips and hair bands to make them attractive and beautiful and sell it in the market. Another activity was making of low-cost nutritious recipes – roti churma and moong dal chat. Both the recipes were simple to make and highly appreciated by the women. Third activity was Sari draping. Students taught them how to drape saree in two different styles Bengali and Guajarati. Village women like to dress up so they were very happy to learn different dressing technique .After draping session we gifted them the sarees of which they were very appreciative , followed by recreational activity played a game i.e. segregation of pulses. The winners were rewarded with sarees, Jewelleries and dinner plates.

Activities for Animators: Three workshops were conducted for the Animators

• Making of Paper Bags • Simple tests to detect adulterants in food. • Low cost Nutritious recipe

There were 10 animators age 25 to 40 yrs who attended the work shop. On request of Sister Hilda students organized workshop on making of Paper Bags. Two different types of bags were taught. Drafting, cutting and folding of the bags were taught .Materials were provided by the students so that each animator gets an opportunity to make both the types of bags. Animators were taught to make the bags which they could use for buying vegetables from the market. After searching institute we carried out paper bag making activity, food and adulteration demonstration and low cost nutritious recipes was demonstration for animator. There were 9 animators.

the SOCIAL Cafes of Mumbai which is why the decorations included bottles hung with jute strings, festive lights and ceiling hangings. The decorations along with light music, delicious food and quirky items to buy created the perfect combination for people to visit and have fun. 10 stalls were put up at the market. All of those sold food, trading items and drinks.

Décor of entrance included potted plants and symbols. The opening of the market was done by the principal of the college Dr Geeta Ibrahim

3 F.Y.B.Sc event Cultural Fare

As part of practical component of Skills in Hospitality Industry students were given hand on experience to organize Cultural Fare .Students were divided into groups of 5 and were given a particular state .They had to present the states in their own innovative ways. Total 36 states along with union territories were included.Students were thus asked to represent and organize on any one state of India. Students took information from newspapers, internet etc. They made charts on different culture like festivals celebrated, cuisine, Historical monuments, Sightseeing, Art and craft. Some students even made a dummy model to represent their state in unique way. They had to explain about particular region as per the respective divisions. Some groups hadeven displayed original wooden handicrafts, jewelleries, food items .They also, used more pictures to describe different places. All in all, they tried to make the event simple and more on an informative side. Some of the groups even sold jewelleries and food items speciality of that particular state. Students also tried their best by dressing themselves representing the dress code of their state.

5 F.Y.B.Sc Hospitality Event “FUN FIESTA”.

The activity was about “Management of small events.” Students of all the eight groups learnt how to plan, budget and organize a small event. They also learnt how to attract crowd for increased foot fall to the event.

Udaipur, Kumbalgarh and Chitorgarh

The department of Community Resource Management organized an Industrial visit as a part of our Value added course “Workstation Design and Applied Ergonomics”. The industries visited were Miraj Multicolour Pvt. Ltd. It is one of India’s leading Stationery, packaging & packaging solutions provider. Second Industry visited was Vikas Body Builders. At this industry, various parts of a bus were assembled and put together to make a bus. The third industry was industry we visited was Pyrotech.They make products like Indoor LED lights, sensors, Outdoor LED lights,etc The fourth visit was Handloom industry called Sadhna- A Women’s handicraft Enterprise

Each industry that students visited, theyanalyzed the working conditions,and job hazards .

Software Program

10 Colour Rendering Workshop

Mr.Mestri from Raheja College gave brief demonstration about how to present the various engineering materials such as stones, bricks, tiles,glass,etc. He also demonstrated texture and every intricate detail of each material. He suggested what stationary supplies such as colour pencils, marker pens, are to be used for effective presentation of engineering materials, along with detailed information about the properties, uses, characteristics, nature,advantages, and disadvantages of each of the engineering material.

Workshop on Simple techniques to detect Food Adulteration was organised for the TY Community Resource Management Students, to prepare them for the preconference workshops.

Mr GajananPatil from JagoGrahakJago demonstrated different adulterated food products with simple tests and important tips to guide the consumers. It was a Three hours session where Mr Patil gave the inputs with respect to adulterated food and also fake products.

• Infrastructure: Availability of Labs at certain time of the year is a great problem as its on sharing basis.

• Rooms, support staff, additional help is sometimes a problem • Practical classes are conducted in one room and equipment’s are kept in another room

shifting of these equipment’s has to be done by staff. • During Jr. College exam and Polytechnic exhibitions no labs and rooms are available to

conduct regular classes. • Waiting for MSc to commence from last 6 yrs and rejecting students. • Only 2 full time staff with lots of committee activities. • With only 2 permanent staff over loaded with administrative work.

Suggestions for improvement /Future plans for 2019-20

• None as such, as suggestions have been made as and when the need arose and accordingly steps were taken to make the change.
