Idea 1

Problem: There is only one police station in Coventry and it is in Eastern Problem: There is only one police station in Coventry and it is in Eastern Coventry but there is no station in Western Coventry.Coventry but there is no station in Western Coventry.

Our idea is to build a police station in western Coventry, we need another Our idea is to build a police station in western Coventry, we need another because…because…

If we don’t achieve this goal this can 1 officer for about every 1,300 people. If we don’t achieve this goal this can happen and there will be much more crimes in Coventry. We’ll have more happen and there will be much more crimes in Coventry. We’ll have more prepared officers prepared for more people.prepared officers prepared for more people.

Pros and Cons Pros Prevent more crimes Makes the people and the

community safer Saves energy because police

officers don’t have to drive as far

Plans smart for when the population grows in the future

When you're paying money you are paying to protect yourself and can lower traffic

Cons Could cost lots of money

to build Could raise taxes

It would be good to put the police station near Hall Road and Waterman road because it isn't next to any busy road like route 117 and it is next to were lots of people live.

Idea 2 Problem: There is only 1 school in western Coventry so some kids

have to drive to school wasting gas, money and energy. Our idea is to build another school in Western Coventry because 1st of

all it is overcrowded, it’s 30% over the limit.

Secondly, its far away from where some kids live. With another school we would want to put it next to where lots of kids live so they could walk to school which would be healthier for the kids and the environment.

What would result in this is that there would be less buses and cars used so there would be less pollution.

You would be saving money because it takes $40,000 to keep just 1 bus on the road for a year (from Smart Growth). It would also be planning smart for the future when the population grows. This new school would also make it so the school isn't overcrowded.

Pros and Cons Pros Healthier for the kids and

environment

Less pollution

Save money because less buses used

School less crowded

May decrease traffic because less buses used.

Plans smart for when the

population grows

Cons Will cost money

May raise taxes

Cost of School We found that the price of

schools are…. Elementary schools: $64.00 sq. ft. Additions: Classrooms: $71.00 sq. ft. Media and Labs: $71.00 sq.ft. Gym: $50.00 sq. ft. Kitchen: $120.00 sq. ft. Cafeteria $70.00 sq. ft Roof $5-$7.00 sq. ft. Were we got this info was on

http://www.doe.k12.ga.us/_documents/schools/facilities/constructioncosts.pdf

The price of this elementary school in California cost $6.5 million. We can maybe get a school like this in Western Coventry.

The cost of a New Police Station

We found that a new 54,000-square-foot police station can cost 10.7 million

We would need a much smaller one in Coventry so less money!

How we can raise the money

We can hold fundraisers like selling candles in schools, we can hold special events like concerts or parties and charge for admission and food. We can even have donation containers throughout Coventry. Or if we need to raise the taxes.

Smart Growth The new police station goes

along with Smart Growth because it is planning smart for when the population grows in the future. It is also going to protect the community better.

The new school in Western Coventry goes along with Smart Growth because it is saving money, causing less pollution, and it would be healthy for the kids because the school would be next to kids so they can walk. It is also planning smart for when the population grows. Also with more kids walking to school the town may build more sidewalks.

Visual Pollution

The new police station would prevent Visual Pollution because they can prevent people from littering. It could also be built over eyesore land.

The new school could prevent visual pollution because kids would be walking to school so less cars and buses would be used. This would result in less pollution and gas used. Also with a new school they may grow more trees. It would also be better to look at because instead of looking at tons of buses and cars going down the street we’ll see kids walking to school.

Thank you for listening We hope you enjoyed our presentation.
