I would like to say thank you to all those who contribute to our sporting community; whether you are a first time participant or have been helping out for quite a while just remember that your efforts are truly appreciated by all involved. All reports we have received surrounding local sporting groups have been largely positive with the community really appreciating the time and effort that is put in to allow such a wide array of sports available to participate in. The FUTURECLUBS Program delivered a total of six workshops in 2014 including Sports Taping, Strategic Planning, Grant Writing and Financials for Not-For-Profits providing opportunities for the sporting community to refine their skills and build local capacity. We’re exploring a number of training and workshops opportunities to deliver in 2015 and welcome your feedback on any specific courses or topics your sporting group would like to see delivered in 2015. I hope you have a safe and enjoyable holiday period and hope to see you in 2015. Australian Sports Commission Healthy Club ChecklistThe ASC Club Health Checklist has been formed as a tool to assist State Sporting Organisations and their clubs with their overall management, governance and planning both at a strategic and an operational level.

To this end, the questions within the ASC Club Health Checklist focus on the key areas that drive clubs; how clubs set – and reach – targets considered important to running a successful club. The report provided at the completion of the survey gives clubs a clear picture of whether their operations and activities are on target to achieve their goals. If you would like to complete the checklist on behalf of your club or have any questions visit http://clubsonline.dsr.wa.gov.au/club-health-checklist.

This season saw KWPA run their inaugural Flippa Ball™ program on every Sunday for 8 weeks from 19 October 2014. Flippa Ball™ is a modified version of non contact water polo for beginners that is designed to be fun as well as safe in a controlled environment. To promote participation and skill development some small rule adjustments are made such as the size of the pool, being able to stand on the pool bottom and catch with two hands to assist young children with getting involved. It is a great transition into water polo and perfect for the younger participants who are interested in being involved but are currently too young for water polo. The program had 50 registered participants and KWPA will be looking for any interested parties in 2015.

If you are interested in becoming a member you can head to our ‘Become a Member’ page (http://www.karrathawaterpolo.myclub.org.au/3.htm) to register, contact us via our Facebook site (Karratha Water Polo: www.facebook.com/groups/155310241304702/ ), or email: [email protected].

A portion of the FUTURECLUBS program will involve an incentive based scheme where clubs and associations that meet set criteria surrounding governance, management and administration can receive tangible and intangible benefits, such as:
