Community update Stage 2 - Removal of contaminated soil containing metals, plastics and some asbestos Material transported to a licensed landfill STEP 5 STEP 1 Development of an Air Quality Management Plan and Asbestos Management Plan EPA’s cleanup of the waste stockpile at Broderick Road, Lara continues. Stage 2 will see the removal of approximately 9,000m 3 of contaminated soil. Contaminants include a mix of: • plaster, • glass pieces, • ceramic, • terracotta, • concrete tile pieces, • brick fragments, • construction aggregate, • plastics, • cement sheet fragments, • timber and asphalt. EPA is committed to helping prevent harm from pollution and waste. The contaminated soil will be removed by a licensed asbestos removalist under strict WorkSafe controls. The removal will be supervised by a qualified, accredited and independent occupational hygienist. The hygienist will monitor air quality at the site for asbestos fibres during all removal works. Removal works will cease if weather conditions are unfavourable. Site management controls will also include dust suppression activities. This includes on-site misting systems and wheel washdown facilities. The contaminated soil will be double-wrapped in plastic and transported to a licensed landfill in Melbourne.
