Pet TipsSpringtime Pet SafetyAllergies. Just like people, pets can have
allergies too. Pets that are allergic to pollen
will have runny noses and will have itchy
ears and noses. Skin allergies are possible
if your pet gets into some deep vegetation.
Itchy skin, licking at the base of the tail
and paws are signs of allergies and can
cause a rash.
Yard and Garden hazards. The insecticides,
herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers many
people apply in the spring to bring their
lawns and gardens back to life are full of
chemicals that are dangerous for pets.
Take care not to allow your dog or cat access
to areas of your property where chemicals
have been applied, and be sure to store all
potentially toxic products out of reach.
Pretty Poisons. Before you stock up on seeds
or visit your local nursery, make sure you
know which plants, f lowers and greenery
are toxic to your pet if ingested.
Warm weather Parasites. Work with a
holistic veterinarian in your area to decide
what kinds of parasite preventives your
pets need to keep them free of f leas, ticks,
heartworm and other parasites throughout
the spring and summer months.

Urban Dance Connection. It’s dancers train in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Pointe and Modern. This team uses it’s training for annual Ballet Exams, Performing Arts Festivals and Dance Competitions as well as it’s own productions and recitals. With the support of strong classical training and involved dance families, UDC Team has members that have been awarded at Provincial Levels, have gone on to graduate with their University Degrees in Dance.
Tara School of Irish Dancing. The Tara School of Irish Dancing is under the direction of Margaret Mullen, TCRG, ADCRG, a teacher and adjudicator registered with the Irish Dancing Commission, Dublin, Ireland. Her highly successful dancing schools in Alberta and British Columbia have developed dancers who represented Western Canada at the World Championships of Irish Dancing.
Pacifi ca Ukes. The Pacifi ca Ukes ukulele ensemble from Campbell River has been in existence for 23 years since its founding in 1990. The members of the group are all students ranging from grades 9-12 and are selected by audition each year. The group has earned a reputation locally and abroad for their versatility and quality of their musical performances as a ukulele orchestra, showcasing their talents on the small instrument. The Pacifi ca Ukes have performed to much acclaim at the Pacifi c Basin International Music Festival in Hawaii, the B.C. Ukulele Conference, and the B.C. Festival of the Arts. The diversity of Pacifi ca Ukes makes them a highly versatile group, providing a delightful blend of light entertainment for audiences of all ages.
Rory Shade - Counter-Tenor: Rory Shade has had a love of music since the age of fi ve. At four years old, he sang in his church choir in Nanaimo. At the age of six, he started music lessons with Chalium Poppy who introduced Rory to classical music, which soon became his passion. He continued his voice studies and started studying with Connie Preston. He has performed in recitals, for functions on the Campbell River reserve that he is from, for schools he has attended, festivals, church, funerals, weddings, at fundraisers and the occasional Storm hockey matches in Campbell River. Rory’s life dream is to become a professional Opera singer. He is going to the University of British Columbia School of Music Opera program after he graduates from Carihi High School.

Matthew Krell, Piano. Matthew Krell, 17 years old, studies piano with Shelley Roberts and theory with Sandy Havelaar. He represented the North Island at the B.C. Festival of Performing Arts last year and was chosen runner-up in intermediate piano. He was co-winner of the 2012 Dorothy Brealey Memorial Scholarship. This past Christmas, he accompanied for River City Players’ Production of Mother Goose at the Tidemark Theatre. Presently, Matthew is teaching piano, accompanying voice and string students and preparing for the ARCT exam in piano performance.

Adrenal BurnoutThe adrenal glands are our stress glands. We must have strong adrenal
function in order handle the stress of life. With adrenal insufficiency, life’s emergencies become overwhelming -- fight or flight quickly becomes “crash and burn” and we are unable to respond effectively to life’s challenges. When we have pushed ourselves to the limit of our capabilities, our energy collapses and chronic fatigue begins.
Chronic Fatigue and Adrenal BurnoutChronic fatigue is a primary factor in all chronic illnesses whether or not we feel fatigued. The most severe derangement of adrenal function short of total failure is called “adrenal burnout”. Chronic fatigue and disease in general has existed for many years, and it has been nearly completely ignored in modern drug therapy.
Causes of Chronic FatigueIn the years leading up to this degree of breakdown in our ability to produce energy, many other problems will have occurred: indigestion, low blood sugar, low immunity, asthma and other breathing problems, chronic pain such as headaches, joint pain, low back pain, and neck pain, skin disorders such as acne, eczema or psoriasis, weight gain, or under weight, hormonal imbalances, and menstrual problems. Mental problems can range from insomnia to anxiety and depression, mood swings and
even psychosis. Adrenal fatigue and burnout can cause all of these problems and more because every body function requires energy. Stimulants Hide Chronic Fatigue. Caffeine, pain pills, Alcohol, marijuana, tobacco and eventually harder drugs such as amphetamine and cocaine all work by forcing the adrenals to work harder, giving the illusion of energy. Flooding the blood stream with sugar through the use of sodas and juice drinks, candy, breakfast cereals or even refined white flours and white rice which convert to sugar rapidly, creates an emergency in the body which the
adrenal glands must respond to. As the intestinal wall weakens, food sensitivities or food allergies will begin to develop as the body allows poorly digested foods into the bloodstream. Food allergies also provide a stimulant effect until the body begins to wear out under the strain. Constantly eating certain foods such as wheat, dairy, corn, soy, yeast or other common food allergens creates a toxic reaction in the body.

John invited his mother over for dinner. During the meal, his mother couldn’t help noticing how beautiful John’s roommate Julie was. She had long been suspicious of a relationship between John and his roommate and this only made her more curious. Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between John and the roommate than met the eye. Reading his mom’s thoughts, John volunteered, “I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you, Julie and I are just roommates.” About a week later, Julie came to John and said, “Ever since your mother came to dinner, I can’t find the beautiful silver gravy ladle. You don’t suppose she took it, do you?” John said, “Well, I doubt it, but I’ll write her a letter just to be sure.” So he sat down and wrote: “Dear Mother, I’m not saying you ‘did’ take a gravy ladle from my house, and I’m not saying you ‘did not’ take a gravy ladle. But the fact remains that one has been missing ever since you were here for dinner. Love, John” Several days later, John received a letter from his mother which read: “Dear Son, I’m not saying that you ‘do’ sleep with Julie, and I’m not saying that you ‘do not’ sleep with Julie. But the fact remains that if she were sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the gravy ladle by now. Love, Mom”
