Comparison
James Jenkinson
55 New Features in 7
• Don't need A New PCWindows 7 will become the first major
Windows release that doesn't require better hardware than its predecessor. In fact, it might even run on systems that struggle with Vista,
especially netbooks.
55 New Features in 7
One-click Wi-FiA simple click on the wireless network System
Tray icon produces a pop-up of available networks, rather than having to delve into the separate View Available Networks option that
was found in XP and Vista. A small but worthwhile change.
5 New Features in Windows 7Internet Explorer 8
Internet Explorer 8 isn't unique to Windows 7, with a beta
already available for Vista, but in terms of usability there's no
comparison between the two. On Windows 7, it's a revelation: not only does it launch quickly, but the pages render in a flash.
5 New Features in Windows 7Wireless USB and Blu-ray write support
Ultra Wideband (UWB) and Wireless USB (WUSB) have rather
stalled in the blocks, but should the wireless alternatives to USB cables
ever take off, Windows 7 will support both. Also included for the
first time is native support for burning Blu-ray discs.
5 New Features in Windows 7Toggle Windows features
Switching off unwanted Windows features used to
involve an uninstall. Now, such features can be simply toggled
on and off, with the files remaining on the hard disk
should you decide to use them later.
5 Features of Windows VistaStart Menu Search
In Windows Vista, the Start Menu has undergone some significant changes. One of the chief additions
is a Search box, where users may begin typing immediately. The contents of the Start menu itself
are indexed and searchable, besides the global search index. If indexing is turned on, the search box
returns results on-the-fly as users type into it. This allows launching applications in general more quickly
than navigating to the shortcut through cascading menus.
5 Features of Windows VistaFile Operations
When moving or copying files, Windows Explorer displays the full source and destination path, size
and number of items and the transfer speed in megabytes per second (MB/s). If a conflict or
error is encountered, it does not terminate the copy, move or delete operation. Rather, the file is
skipped and the rest of the files processed
5 Features Of Windows Vista
Windows AEROPremium editions of Windows Vista include a
redesigned user interface and visual style, named Windows Aero (Authentic, Energetic, Reflective and Open). Aero is intended to be cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing than
previous Windows versions, including glass-like transparencies, window animations and eye
candy.
5 Features Of Windows Vista
Internet Explorer 7Windows Vista includes the seventh version of
Internet Explorer, which adds support for tabbed browsing, Atom, RSS, internationalized domain names, a search box, a phishing filter,
an anti-spoofing URL engine, fine-grained control over ActiveX add-ons, thumbnails of all
open tabs in a single window (called Quick Tabs), page zoom, and tab groups.
5 Features Of Windows Vista
Power ConfigurationWindows Vista allows fine-grained control over power settings such as setting the power saving
mode for wireless adapters, USB selective suspend, PCI Express link state power management,
processor state etc and also allows configuring power settings for specific scenarios such as while sharing media files, giving a presentation, adaptive
display mode and while indexing files.
2 Cons of Windows 7
Quicklaunch Bar is goneThe quicklaunch bar that is located next to the
start button is a handy area to store shortcuts to programs and applications that may be
stored in folders. This bar effectively eliminates desktop clutter.
Windows 7 does not have this bar
2 Cons of Windows 7Windows 7 new task bar
(Superbar)The Windows 7 superbar is horrible, it has oversized icons
which leads to having less space to fit them on before they stack
on each other
2 Cons of Windows VistaVista Compatibility
Unfortunately Windows Vista does not support alot of the hardware that windows XP supports, alot of
people may need new hardware just so vista can use it, this may end up costing more than just the OS
price.
2 Cons of Windows Vista
Windows AERO PowerWindows AERO, the new graphical interface in
Windows Vista certainly looks good, but it chews up laptop battery like nothing else.
Some laptops may not even last more than 2 hours on its internal battery
Which One is Better?
When the beta for Windows 7 was released there was a celebration from MS users worldwide, this being
because those who were frustrated with Vista now saw that Windows 7 fixed everything.
The truth is, these people don’t recognise that Windows 7 essentially is Windows Vista just with a new start
button, personalisation page and taskbar. Why pay hundreds of dollars to upgrade to something
that essentially is the same as what you already have.If you have Vista don’t bother paying to upgrade
Thank you for listening to my PowerPoint comparing Windows
Vista and Windows 7
