Reader Reviews and EmailsAs I [read your book], I thought two things. One, your humor is hilarious and two, you make math look fun. I want to further my knowledge in math now, I am going to take college Trig this term and in the fall I plan on taking Calculus. I also noticed that you want to help people learn and enjoy math. You are dif-ferent in that sense and I thank you for that. Thanks again for your time and effort.

I must commend you on that absolutely wonderful book you’ve written. I’m talking about The Complete Idiot’s guide to Calculus. It was and continues to be a lifesaver for me. In high school I despised math; now because of you, I’ve actually chosen it to be my major.

In my own teaching, I often use The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Music Theory as a means to jump-start the learning process for my students. Too often young musicians and teachers alike approach music theory as a Very Hard Subject That Must Be Learned, instead of a set of liberating tools that makes one’s music making easier and better. However, this book makes learning theory fun!!! Your diagrams, language and wit often contain the bit of information that allows the student to finally grasp the material at hand, often times with an accompanying smile at the author’s language and antics. Consequently, I’ve often found that theory teachers at all levels will employ it for its numerous strategies, often at a time when nothing else has conveyed the concept.

I was failing Spanish and then once I used this book, I got a 94 on my test.

This is a good left-brain book. It is well organized. Everything about gender in one section, adjectives in another section, and verb endings in another section, unlike my current text book, which skips around a lot. I studied French on my own for two years with moderate success, then started in a class. I continue to use this book as a grammar reference because the index is very functional.

After buying two really crappy books, I was ready to pull my hair out. But that's when I found The Complete Idiot's Guide to Chemistry. <insert Hallelujah Chorus here> While I did have a Chemistry class in college, I struggled through most of it. And I am really bad at math. So words like factor-label conversion and significant figures sent me into a complete panic. But the way Mr. Guch writes is so easy to follow and so non-threatening! Not to mention funny! He tells you exactly what you need to know and exactly how to do the calculations you need to do.
