    Changes to the

    The list has been under review for several years. In July 2008 the announced a list of 188 kanji proposed for addition. They include quitecommon kanji such as () and (""). The full list is:

    Five kanji are also marked for removal: .

    In September 2008 the above proposal was varied to include , , and , and drop .

    The decision on this proposal is due in early 2009.

    Kanji For Use In Names

    These are the 893. They are not, but may be used in and other officialnames registers.

    The following batch (878 out of the 983) are in the JIS X 0208 set. The remaining 105 are in the JIS

    X 0212/0213 sets.

    The following 14 kanji are in the JIS X 0212 set. Depending on your fonts, they maydisplay in most browsers, but not in Internet Explorer (Microsoft has not implemented the full

    EUC-JP coding.)
