Component 2 task 2 BY CADIE ROSE
What is a interactive feature ?An interactive feature allows the audience to change the way the newspaper or
magazine is displayed.
They help change :
- The size of the page (zoom in and zoom out).
- The audio so somebody can read the text to you.
- The pictures can turn 360 so for example with trainers you can view the hole
trainer.
- Page navigation, the page will turn to the next if you press the arrow button.
- You can click on links and it will take you to the website.
Audio Audio is sound that is transmitted or reproduced. When reading a online newspaper you can
use this interactive feature for someone to read the text to you. This interactive feature is
beneficial for blind people or people with reading difficulties who like to read but cannot see, so
they need someone else to read it to them this will be helpful.
Some advantages of audio is that It makes it easier for busy people to catch up with the news.
Also it’s better for people who are not blind but have bad eyesight because they won’t have to
try and read the small text.
An disadvantage for audio is that sometimes the person reading the text can be very boring and
unenthusiastic about reading which is not enjoyable for the audience and they will find it more
entertaining to read it themselves.
If you click on this sign it
reads the text to you
Videos Videos are the recording and reproducing of moving visual
images made digitally or videotaped. You will see videos
everywhere now a days because they are easy especially for people
who get exercises from online magazines but the pictures don't
explain it enough but if there was a video it would be easier for
the audience to follow along and learn.
An Advantage of videos is that they are easier to follow along
with rather than a text or image for example in a e-newspaper if
you are reading about a interview and you don't really understand
or can't read the words they are saying you can watch the video of
the interview so it's easier and you can't miss read words.
A disadvantage of videos is that you have to have good wifi to
watch them otherwise the video will keep stopping and playing
but with a picture its still so it can't pause or play itself.
If you click on the carrots it shows a
video on how to prep and make them
Graphics Graphics are visual images produced by computer. Some graphics
are interactive which means that they let you turn it 360, change
the colour, flash etc. Usually online magazines use graphics if they
are showing a piece of clothing or a pair of shoes to the audience
so the audience can see the full design.
An advantage of graphics is that it’s easy for the audience for
example if you see a pair of trainers on a e- magazine and you like
them from the angle the magazine has shown but you want to see
the rest of the trainer you can use the 360 picture to see the rest of
the shoe from all angles.
But a disadvantage of graphics is that sometimes the camera may
not be clear so the audience may not be able to see the product
properly.
An example of a graphic Before
A few seconds later
Links You can click on a link for it to take you to another website for
example if you are looking at a online poster for a car and you
like the exact colour shape etc you can click on the link and it
will take you to the website where you can buy the exact car
and not have to try and find it yourself.
An disadvantage for link is that sometimes a magazine
company can add the wrong link and then the audience will be
taken to the wrong page and won’t be able to buy a product
they like or watch a video etc.
A advantage of links is that it’s easier for the audience to
purchase a product by just clicking on the link rather than
going on the website themselves and trying to find the exact
product.
This is an example of a link if
you click on the fiat 500
advertisement it will take you to
the exact website.
If you click on the pic it will take you to the
website you can buy this .
Page navigation Page navigation is one of the most important features of digital print based text its the toolbar at
the bottom of a e-magazine, e- newspaper etc. it is where zoom in,zoom out, volume, help, gallery,
next page, print, share, favorite, email etc.
An advantage of page navigation is that it’s easy for the audience to go from page to page with
just one click
A disadvantage for page navigation is that sometime the device can glitch and you can turn to
many pages than you would like then loose the page you was on.
This is a toolbar
sometimes it’s at
the top sometimes
it’s at the bottom
Why are these interactive features combined in digital texts ? The two are connected because:
It’s easier for the audience to read things and to work the internet.
It suits people's needs for example if they are blind and cant read or if
the have reading difficulties the audio button will come in handy.
It gives the audience option and choice on how they want to use it eg if
they want to listen to it or read it themselves it gives them that power.
It’s more entertaining to listen to someone else read than reading
yourself and audio adds a little bit of fun to just sitting down and
reading a newspaper.
Instant changes happen for example swiping the page you just click on
the arrow button and it happens instantly rather than you having to
unstick the pages of a normal paper magazine etc.
