Drawing: ENVIRONMENTAL DIAGRAM (SUMMER)TheThe Blur Building is highly suited to the moderate climatic conditions of the Yverdon-les-Bains Summers. With cool summer breezes passing through the open structure and the mist acting as a skin to aid in the distortion of direct sunlight, creating this ambient dispersed lighting effect, the building is highly enjoyable during the Summers. The winds of the Summer are relatively slow with average wind speeds of only 0.5ms in the Northerly direction and a moderate temperature of 21 degrees celsius. With water being readily accessible the water pump disperses water droplets into the air, forming the lightweight mist which shrouds the structure.droplets into the air, forming the lightweight mist which shrouds the structure.

Drawing: ENVIRONMENTAL DIAGRAM (WINTER)TheThe Blur Building was designed for the moderate Summers of Yverson-les-Bains, not for the cold Winters. The danger of water freezing within the piping which runs though out the building must be considered, therefore it is suggested that there will be no ‘blur’ effect. In this instance, it is proposed that an envelope system using ETFE cushions be used to enclose the building so that visitors may be sheltered within a highly effective insulator. This skin will keep visitors from the cold winds, rain and snow, yet still allow light to pass through. The key factor in making the ETFE cushions successfulsuccessful is the air cavity which mediates between the external and internal, whilst outside is cold, inside will be relatively warmer.
