Eply EP - 50A 2-ply (duplex) laminate of calendared cotton based press paper and 50 micron Polyester (PET) film.

Class B 130oC

Technical DescriptionThe Eply EP-50 range of flexible, two ply electrical insulation materials are produced by laminating various thicknesses of cotton based Presspan 3040 (grey-green in colour) using a thermally stable adhesive resin as the bonding agent. The Presspan 3040 has excellent flexibility properties and crease resistance compared to Kraft based electrical papers and the application of the PET film to the Presspan enhances the ease of insertion into slot windings. Eply EP-50 will slowly embrittle at temperatures over 100oC, but can withstand short term temperatures of up to 150oC and as a result is very suitable for use in electrical devices rated at Class B (130oC) temperature rise.

ApplicationsEply EP-50 is widely used as a slot and slot closure insulation in a wide range of electric motors rated at Class B temperature rise.Eply EP-50 also finds use as a slot and barrier insulation in vehicle electric’s, lighting ballasts, portable tools and domestic appliances.Eply EP-50 laminates have excellent flexibility, tensile strength and tear resistance and are very suitable for automatic punching, forming and insertion processes.

Class F 155oC

Technical DescriptionThe Eply DMD range of flexible insulation composite materials are produced by laminating various thicknesses of non woven Polyester (PETP) fibres between Polyester (PET) film using a thermally stable adhesive resin as the bonding agent. Eply DMD laminates are often used in the manufacture and repair of Class F rated AC induction motors, which operate continuously at approximately 20oC below their rated temperature rise. Eply DMD will offer adequate thermal performance for such machines.

ApplicationsEply DMD flexible laminates are widely used as slot and slot closure insulation in electric motors and alternators rated up to Class F temperature rise. They are also widely used in air cooled transformers and portable tools. Eply DMD composites have sufficient flexibility, tensile strength and tear resistance to make them suitable for easy forming, punching and insertion by automated machinery.

Eply NMN and NMN NCA 3-ply (triplex) laminate of calendared Nomex® polyamide paper on either side of Polyester(PET) film, (Eply NMN) and uncalendared Nomex® aramid paper on either side of Polyester(PET) film (Eply NMN NC).

Sheet Insulations - Nomex and Varnished

Nomex Aramid PaperInherent Dielectric Strength - Depending on the product type and thickness, Nomex will withstand short term electrical stresses of 18 to 40kV/mm with no need for further treatment with varnishes or resins.

Mechanical Toughness - Nomex products are strong, resilient and (in the thinner grades) flexible, with good resistance to tearing and abrasion.

Thermal Stability - Temperatures up to 200oC have little or no effect on the electrical and mechanical properties of Nomex. Even with continuous exposure at 2200C for 10 years or more, Nomex still retains useful values.

Chemical Compatibility - Nomex is essentially unaffected by most solvents and is usually resistent to attack by acids and alkalines. It is compatible with all varnishes, resins, oils and fluorocarbons and is impervious to attack by insects, fungi or moulds.

Insensitivity to moisture - At 95% relative humidity, Nomex maintains 90% of its bone-dry dielectric strength and many mechanical properties are actually improved.

Non-Toxic & Flame Resistant - Nomex will not produce any known toxic reactions in humans or animals. It will not melt, flow or support combustion below 2500C.

Technical DescriptionEPaFlex SVG insulating sleeving is manufactured from braided “E” glass yarn impregnated with a silicone resin and is capable of continuous performance at 250oC. Short term temperatures of up to 600oC can be tolerated. At temperatures greater then 300oC, the silicone resin will be valorised, but the residue leaves no carbon content that can become conductive. At these high temperatures the sleeving offers air gap electric strength in dry conditions as long as there is not excessive flexing present.

ApplicationEPaFlex SVG is widely used in Class C rated electric motors and transformers to insulate out coming winding leads and joints and as additional cable insulation protection in situations where it is necessary to pass internal wiring through earthed metal etc. It is commonly used to insulate element leads in domestic appliances where high temperature is present as well as in lighting fittings where additional protection is needed for the PVC wiring.

Technical DescriptionEPaFlex HTG insulating sleeving is manufactured from braided “E” glass yarn, which has been subject to a heat process to caramelise the glass yarn size, induce braid roundness and some inter-yarn bonding. The heat treatment given to this sleeving limits fraying when cut. Continuous performance in excess of 200oC is possible and short term temperatures of up to 600oC can be tolerated. Electric strength in dry conditions will be equivalent to breakdown of the air gap provided by the sleeving wall thickness.

ApplicationEPaFlex HTG is widely used where high temperature is present in electrical appliances and in electrical equipment where extra reinforcement and heat protection of cables is necessary. It is also used as the insulation on carbon brush flexibles.

Technical DescriptionEPaFlex SRG insulating sleeving is manufactured by coating braided “E” glass yarn with a silicone elastomer and is capable of continuous performance from -70oC to +220oC. Short term temperatures of up to 265oC can be tolerated.

ApplicationEPaFlex SRG is widely used in high temperature rated domestic appliances, heating appliances and other “hot area” cable protection applications. It is suitable for insulation of winding leads and joints in Class H rated rotating machines because it has strong mechanical properties.

Technical DescriptionEPaCord FTC is manufactured from yarn of viscose Rayon DTEX.1840 (1650) 100 TPMZ. Rayon is a cellulose based fibre. In general, the tie cord exhibits some elongation, but only a small amount of shrinkage (retraction), under tension at 20oC. The wax is defined as SEM-HM 850 wax and is applied to assist in the handling properties. The Rayon tie cord does not cause any irritation to the applicator’s skin.

ApplicationEPaCord FTC is principally employed for tying and bracing of small and medium random wound electrical machine windings and on armatures.

Air-Drying VarnishA solvented, alkyd resin based, air-drying, Class F (155oC) varnish, type 009-0008 offers excellent electrical properties, good tank stability and anti-tracking qualities and incorporates a “user-friendly” fungicide.

It is ideal as an impregnate for small transformers and coils where a rapid air-drying film is required. It is also ideal for coating insulation boards and mouldings where a good anti-tracking finish is required and can be used as a conformal coating for printed circuit boards.
