Welcome to the 2017 Auckland Arts Festival

Great artists cause controversy, start revolutions and little by little change the world. Festivals like ours are a

catalyst for change creating opportunities for artists to communicate with audiences and audiences to re-

spond to artists’ work. Throughout the Festival you will find small threads that deal with our world today. We

hope that the work in the Festival can make you think, laugh, scream a little and perhaps even cry.

The music for the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark is fantastic and to be able to hear and see it performed live will

be a special treat for movie buffs and those who have never attended an orchestra live. I hope everyone is

blown away by the adventure.

Ark… with John Williams’ epic score performed live to picture by the Auckland Philharmo-

nia Orchestra.

The legendary Indiana Jones must find the Ark of the Covenant before it falls into the

clutches of the evil Nazis. On his quest, he traverses the world from the depths of the South

American jungle to the sands of Egypt, surviving snakes, double-crossers, booby traps and

beautiful women at every turn. It's the ultimate adventure movie with a score to match

from the equally legendary John Williams.
