SUMMARY OF COMMERCIAL LETTER
EMPLOYMENT CORRESPONDENCE Before you write your resume or cover letter, you must think about yourself because your employment correspondence must give a prospective employer a positive and desirable picture of your personality, background and experiences. In any order as you think of a list such facts as: •Jobs held •Schools attended Areas majored in •Special courses you have participated in •Memberships you have held •Awards or honors you have received •Sports you enjoy •Languages you speak •Special interests you have •Special skills you have When a resume is mailed to an employer, a cover letter should be included. A sample letter of application is attached. A well written letter will almost always create interest even when rapidly reviewed in a few short seconds.
RESUME The resume is sometimes called a data sheet or vita. It is an outline of all you have to offer a new employer. . It creates a first impression about you to the employer. It presents your qualifications to a prospective employer and convinces the employer that you are a qualified candidate. The information contained on your resume must be accurate and complete. It should consist of facts. The objective of the résumé is to get you an interview. Highlight your knowledge, skills and experience Show how your personal qualities and professional capabilities satisfy the employer’s requirements Differentiate you from the crowd by emphasizing your accomplishments
