CONCEPT NOTE Capacity Building Programme on Research, Teaching and Learning Process for the Faculty in Social Sciences (27 th November 2017 to 9 th December 2017) Research is a way of examining fact and value of any discipline. It is undertaken within most professions especially in academics. More than a set of skills, it is a way of thinking, examining critically the various aspects of our professional, educational and academic work. It is a habit of questioning what you do, and a systematic examination of the observed information to find answers with a view to instituting appropriate changes for a more effective professional and professional service. Research is a structured enquiry that utilizes acceptable scientific methodology to solve problems and create new knowledge that is generally applicable. Research is a process of collecting, analyzing and interpreting information to answer questions. It is an investigation, examination, scrutiny of the process, methods, types, hypotheses procedures and design, which are the foundation pillars of the good research. It is a prerequisite for any research to use appropriate methods and tools for proper outcomes on different issues. By using proper research methods we can improve our outcomes that are beneficial and provides basis for further research. Research findings heavily contribute for policy formulation in different sectors. That is why knowledge of writing and conducting a good research for those who are aspiring to enter in to the research field, is essential. CONCEPT NOTE

Capacity Building Programme on Research, Teaching and Learning Process for the

Faculty in Social Sciences (27th November 2017 to 9

th December 2017)

Research is a way of examining fact and value of any discipline. It is undertaken within

most professions especially in academics. More than a set of skills, it is a way of

thinking, examining critically the various aspects of our professional, educational and

academic work. It is a habit of questioning what you do, and a systematic examination of

the observed information to find answers with a view to instituting appropriate changes

for a more effective professional and professional service. Research is a structured

enquiry that utilizes acceptable scientific methodology to solve problems and create new

knowledge that is generally applicable. Research is a process of collecting, analyzing and

interpreting information to answer questions. It is an investigation, examination, scrutiny

of the process, methods, types, hypotheses procedures and design, which are the

foundation pillars of the good research. It is a prerequisite for any research to use

appropriate methods and tools for proper outcomes on different issues. By using proper

research methods we can improve our outcomes that are beneficial and provides basis for

further research. Research findings heavily contribute for policy formulation in different

sectors. That is why knowledge of writing and conducting a good research for those who

are aspiring to enter in to the research field, is essential. The purpose of this proposed

program is to enhance the capability of conducting quality research among faculty

members of Social- Sciences and further bring out completed research into publishable

material of high quality in the form of journal articles/books. The Broad objective of the

course will be to develop research capabilities among young faculty and specifically, the

objectives will be to:

• Develop capacity for conceptualizing and writing research proposals.

• Enhance skills to prepare an appropriate research design.

• Develop the capacity for planning and writing a book.

• Develop the capacity for grant applications.

• Develop the capacity for teaching and learning.

The Capacity building program is designed in an interdisciplinary manner in a workshop

format enabling participants to discuss debate and raising the question relevant literature

on social science, critically evaluate recent trends and handle database, techniques and

methods used in contemporary research on the subjects. The content of the program

includes following broad themes:

• Research methodology, database and techniques

• Appropriate research design

• Planning and writing a book

• Preparing a seminar, workshop and orientation program proposal

• Preparing major and minor project proposal

• Preparing area studies proposal

• Debate on learning and teaching methods specially use of technology.
