• Preparation of quality criteria for radiation protection research infrastructure and compilation of lists for recommended infrastructures

• Increase the visibility of infrastructures including the preparation of regular information about infrastructures (newsletter)

• Development of harmonized practices and protocols to strengthen and expand databases from past radiological experiments and from stored biological material

• Development of strategies for facilitating access to infrastructures

An ongoing process: The means to achieve these objectives will evolve over time to meet

the changing needs and priorities of the EJP-CONCERT program

WP6 : Objectives

Page 4: CONCERT WP6 ACCESS TO INFRASTRUCTURES

• Task 6.1 – Promote the visibility of selected research infrastructures (Lead: NMBU, Principle Participants:

CIEMAT, IRSN, CEA)

• Task 6.2 – Harmonize practices and protocols (Lead: RIVM, Principle Participants: Bfs, MTA-EK, SCK-CEN, CEA)

• Task 6.3 – Strategies for facilitating access to infrastructure (Lead: CEA, Principle Participants: HMGU, UNIPV)

WP6 : 3 Tasks

Page 5: CONCERT WP6 ACCESS TO INFRASTRUCTURES

• Subtask 6.1.2 – Develop and update quality criteria and lists of recommended infrastructures (Lead: CIEMAT)– irradiation facilities (external, internal)

– observatory sites/combined exposure

– existing epidemiological cohorts

– prospective collections

– databases of archived data and material

– ‘omics and analytical platforms

– biodosimetry platforms

6.1 : Promote the visibility

• Subtask 6.1.1 – Listing the infrastructures (Lead: IRSN) Generate a global list of all infrastructures based on previous lists and surveys including those from DoReMi, OPERRA, STAR/COMET, MERIL, ESFRI, other networks (ex. ESGI, Prime-XS), outside Europe, etc.

Page 6: CONCERT WP6 ACCESS TO INFRASTRUCTURES

• Subtask 6.1.3 – Increase the visibility of recommended

infrastructures (Lead: CEA)

• Explore the development of a unique portal (..search tools) to access all databases of archived data and material

• Publish a periodic newsletter featuring specific infrastructures to be bundled into an e-handbook at the end of the project

6.1 : Promote the visibility

Page 7: CONCERT WP6 ACCESS TO INFRASTRUCTURES

• Subtask 6.2.1 – Maintaining STORE (Lead: Bfs)

Ensure scientific curation of the STORE database and continuous updates to best fit user needs. This will also concern radioecology archives from the STAR and COMET projects if applicable.

• Subtask 6.2.2 – Incrementing databases (Lead: MTA-EK)

Seek and identify valuable archived data and material for the databases and where possible rescue material from endangered biobanks

6.2 : Harmonize Practices & Protocols

Page 8: CONCERT WP6 ACCESS TO INFRASTRUCTURES

• Subtask 6.2.3 – Retrospective studies (Lead: SCK-CEN)

– Assess the biological, physical and chemical approaches currently being used to study biobanked material and encourage these approaches for the study of biobanked material where applicable by including similar studies in CONCERT calls

6.2 : Harmonize Practices & Protocols

• Subtask 6.2.4 – Harmonization and exercises (Lead: CEA)

– Prepare guidelines for the process to perform the harmonization of the practices of selected facilities by surveying the harmonization practices for different platforms (eg. Eurados). Incorporate the best practices into the guidelines.

– Support the continued development of the RENEB network and promote its use for projects where medium to large scale biodosimetry is needed.

Page 9: CONCERT WP6 ACCESS TO INFRASTRUCTURES

• Subtask 6.3.1 – Identification of the needs to support sustainability of critical (including rare) facilities (Lead: HMGU)• Working closely with WP2 and WP3, promote the use and support of

critical facilities which have been identified based on research priorities as laid out in the roadmaps and the criteria developed in subtask 6.1.2.

6.3 : Strategies for facilitating access

• Subtask 6.3.2 – Developing training (Lead: UNIPV)

• Working closely with WP7, promote the development of strategies to provide training around the use of certain types of infrastructures and related techniques

Page 10: CONCERT WP6 ACCESS TO INFRASTRUCTURES

• Subtask 6.3.3 – Existing procedures (calls, funding…) (Lead: CEA)• Explore already available funding opportunities for infrastructure access.

These will be included in the newsletters and e-handbook to be produced in subtask 6.1.3.

• Subtask 6.3.4 – Funding scheme (within infrastructure/within project) (Lead: CEA)

• Working closely with WP2 and WP3, Explore and propose various possible funding modalities and the specific platforms or types of infrastructures to be promoted in the upcoming CONCERT calls

6.3 : Strategies for facilitating access

Page 11: CONCERT WP6 ACCESS TO INFRASTRUCTURES

• D6.1 – Recommendations to WP3 for infrastructure related topics and funding schemes to support infrastructure use for the 1st CONCERT call (M5?)

• D6.2 – List of recommended infrastructures for radioprotection research (M8)

• D6.3 – Recommendations to WP3 for infrastructure related topics and funding schemes to support infrastructure use for the 2st CONCERT call (M17)

• D6.4 – Publishing of the first version of a web-handbook based on the newsletters each featuring a different type of infrastructure and their access (including funding) (M36)

• D6.5 – Report on integration of archived materials in STORE/Radioecology data bases (M48)

• D6.6 Publishing of the web-handbook including protocols issued from harmonization procedures (M60)

WP6 : Deliverables

Page 12: CONCERT WP6 ACCESS TO INFRASTRUCTURES

6.1 – Promote the visibility of selected research

infrastructures

Compilation of a list (with links) comprising all of the previously

listed infrastructures across all research domains

Preparation of a list of quality criteria for all types of research

infrastructures

Application of the list of quality criteria to develop a list of

recommended infrastructures
