Principal’s Message
I am very proud to announce that Felicity Pinheiro has been successful in gaining a permanent Assistant Principal position at Wahroonga Public School. She gained this position last term but was able to stay this term to hand over. Miss Pinheiro started her career at Concord West Public School and she will be very sadly missed. I know she will be a wonderful addition to her new school. The new teacher for 4F will be announced shortly.
Cyber–safety Parent Information Session
Cyber-safety is a growing concern for parents and teachers. Cyber-safety is addressed as part of the school curriculum but needs to be a focus that parents and the school work together on, especially as most issues occur outside school. It is important that parents are aware of the issues and how you can support and teach your child in navigating the internet safely. We have organised the Police Youth Liaison Officer, Senior Constable James Bottalico, to come for parent information sessions for Stage 2 and Stage parents on Wednesday 11th September. I strongly urge at least one parent of each child in Years 3—6 to attend the session. This is only for adults. A note has been sent home with more details. Please see information on the next page of this newsletter for parent support from the Department.
Zone Athletics
We have received final results for the zone athletics carnival and we did amazingly well for a small school. Overall, our team came 5th! Alexander M was the 11 Year Boys Champion!
Car park safety
I have had parents contacting us concerned about safety in the car park due to parents driving in near the morning bell time. While I understand that it easier to drop kids off in the car park, especially if you are running late, this is not safe. Students enter around the car park and occasionally accidently walk across it. Please drop children off in the 5 minute zone outside the school. If you are late, please park on the street and bring your child to the office for a late note.
Uniform
Our P & C volunteers do an amazing job operating the Uniform Shop. The new website offering online purchasing makes buying uniforms easier for busy parents. Unfortunately, we have noticed an increase in students wearing non-uniform jackets and jumpers. Please ensure that you send your children in the correct uniform and label all clothes clearly (preferably with iron on labels).

Finally, congratulations to Mr Wallace and his wife who welcomed a baby girl, Nora, recently. Mr Wallace will be back from paternity leave next week, tired but happy!

3M house descriptions
3M are looking at the settings for creative writing. These students have written
descriptions of their homes, which will be used as settings for their writing.
My house has a small blue and red tent with a big, smooth sand
pit and a really bouncy trampoline, Also there are huge flowers
that are going to bloom in spring. Since it’s spring the
reflection of the glass is very shiny. We mostly eat from the big,
new, clean barbeque that sits on a wooden stage.

My family’s house is about 102 years old. The back part of our
house is made mostly of asbestos. My front yard has a grey
concrete path running through the middle of it. The ancient tile
roof is red and you can just see the bamboo forest and old
jacaranda tree behind it. The steps and verandah are made of
concrete. On the left side of our house there are two windows made of glass. On the weekend there
is a bench and shoe shelf across from it. In the front garden there are two fern plants.

The brick house with a wooden fence is in Liberty Grove in Rhodes, Australia. The metal and
wooden awning makes it brighter. The glass and metal sliding doors take you to the small front
yard just behind the garage. The garage door with the rusty brick wall is outside the garage.

My apartment is located on level nine. It has two bedrooms and I have to share my room with my
little brother. The building is made of concrete and has wooden floors. It has 12 levels. There are
two storeys in my level, therefore it has four rooms. The kitchen has an iron stove and a balcony
with a bunch of unique plants. Outside there is a lift and stairs.

HABITAT ARTWORKS—1G
Students from 1G visited Ms Self to show their artworks inspired by Jeannie Baker’s book Circle and the recent Stage 1
Walking Excursion. During their visit to Bicentennial Park, Stage 1 examined threats to the habitat of the Godwit bird.

CANADA BAY COUNCIL — “KIDS ON BIKES” FREE WORKSHOPS
As part of NSW Bike Week this year, Canada Bay Council has arranged for ‘Kids on Bikes’ to deliver three free x 1 hr workshops for children on Sunday 22nd September 2019 at Cintra Park netball courts in Concord to help them gain confidence and improve their cycling skills on 2-wheeled bikes.

The two types of free workshops offered are:
· The 'learn to ride' workshop for beginners. This workshop will enable your child to grow in confidence on a two wheeled bicycle. The workshop will provide an on-bike experience which aims to develop basic cycle fundamental skills such as balance, control and braking. The workshop will be conducted in a non-traffic environment in an open space with trained coaches from 'Kids on Bikes' to ensure that your child has a safe and fun experience going from zero to hero in no time.
· The 'bike skills' workshop is a self-paced style workshop for children who have riding ability but would like to further develop their confidence, develop their riding technique and navigate obstacles which riders experience in everyday cycling. The workshop will be conducted in a non-traffic environment in an open space with trained coaches from 'Kids on Bikes' to ensure that your child has a safe and fun experience.
