Principal’s Message
Sickness and school attendance
There have been a lot of colds and other illnesses around recently. While I understand that it is difficult for working parents, it is important that students stay at home if they are sick. The increase in sickness has also had a large impact on the availability of casual teachers to replace teachers who are absent from school.
The Home School Liaison Officer did a check on our attendance records last week. Can I please remind parents to send a written explanation of your child’s absence within 7 days of the first day they are away. This is in line with Department of Education policy. The easiest way to do this is through the Skoolbag App.
Zone Cross Country
Congratulations to the team who represented Concord West at the Zone Cross Country. Mrs Waugh and Mr Barrett were very impressed by the sportsmanship and good behaviour throughout the day. Well done to Alexander M, Jayda L and Rab D who will now go on to the Regional Carnival!
Fun Run update
Our fun run prizes are here! The office staff are very busy sorting them to match the correct prizes to children. Some children will receive their prizes today with the remaining prizes going home early next week. Thank you to the office staff for taking on this time consuming additional task.
Frog Pond
Next Wednesday we are very lucky to have Kathy Potter from the Australian Museum coming to Concord West to talk to our students about frogs. She will also be going to each classroom to show the children some frogs and will help us to locate the best position for our frog pond (behind J block classrooms). Construction will begin in a fortnight and we are lucky to have most of the materials for the frog pond being donated by Bunnings Lidcombe.
A reminder that Athletics Carnival permission notes and payment are due back next week. Thank you to parents who have returned these.
Have a relaxing weekend, Kim Self

KD students thoroughly enjoyed TEN (Targeted Early Numeracy) lessons,
were they are learning addition by rolling dice and adding numbers together.
KD is also learning about living things
and the needs of plants. In class students
have planted bean plants. They have
enjoyed caring for them and watching them
grow.
Mrs Desantis, KD
KL have been learning about different animals. Each week we focus on a new
animal and learn as much as we can. Did you know that spiders lay up to 2000
eggs at a time? Or that a cow can produce 30 litres of milk in one day? It has
been fun to learn, create artworks and write about these amazing animals. In
Week 4, we visited Calmsley Hill City Farm, where we saw and learned about
lots of different animals. We particularly enjoyed milking a cow, seeing
how sheep are sheared and patting
a variety of different farm animals
such as goats, sheep and even
baby chicks!

KC are learning about living and non-living things. We have started
growing bean plants and we are very
excited seeing shoots starting to
grow! We also had a wonderful
time learning about the farm and all
of the animals.

Stage One Excursion to Taronga Zoo
On Wednesday the 1st of May, the Stage One students attended a very special excursion to Taronga Zoo. While there,
we visited the newly opened Taronga Institute: Science & Learning Centre where we came very close to the animals in
their habitat rooms. Our students interacted with lizards, snakes, bilbies, scorpions, birds, monkeys and even a crocodile!
The zoo keepers taught us about the animals’ habitats, diets and predators.
The Stage One students and teachers would like to thank Ms Gannon for organising such a fantastic educational
experience!
