CAMPING WITH BOY & GIRL SCOUTS
SON TINH CAMP ON DONG MO LAKE
It doesn’t feel like you’ve really experienced life as a scout until you’ve been on a camping trip. Our Hanoi Boy and Girl Scouts did just this and ventured out to the banks of Dong Mo Lake to set up their overnight tents at Son Tinh Camp.
This great outdoors trip boasted over fifty scouts and their parents for a weekend of sports activities, learning to cook on an open fire, games of capture the flag, and some good old fashioned hanging out time with fellow scouts.
FLAG HANDLING TAUGHT JUST LIKE A PRO
The Citizen Activity Badge helps Boy Scouts to understand their rights and duties as citizens of their community and country. Thank you Staff Sergeant Hardee and Sergeant Dohse for showing the Webelos (and 2 Wolves) how to raise and lower, fold, and respect a flag. Also thank you to US Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission and Concordia parent, Claire Pierangelo, for arranging for the Scouts to earn their merit badge.
VIETNAM TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE
Concordia faculty came together with other educators from around the region for a three-day technology in education conference where many
Concordia teachers were also presenters. This conference served as a fantastic
professional development opportunity as well as a great kick off to the upcoming Google Summit to be hosted on the Concordia Campus September 20-21, 2014.

PLAY CAFE -A SPECIAL PLACE FOR CONCORDIA
A PLACE FOR KIDS AND PARENTS
Need a place that is not only fun and educational for children but also a great place for parents to sit and mingle over a nice cup of coffee? Concordia Preschool students and their parents had a chance to visit Play Café as a field trip outing and enjoyed a fantastic morning of over four floors of creative play area, a real-life indoor tree house, and even an outdoor terrace complete with a tire swing and sand pit.
So, what makes Play Café different from other cafes that cater to families with small children? For starters, the café is set up as a social enterprise and hopes to provide a place where people are supported to be healthier in mind, body, and spirit and will offer classes for families that support that cause. Starting this month, prenatal and birthing classes will be given in both English and Vietnamese and an on site American nutritionist is even available at the café for consultation on proper diet and nutrition guidance.
Play Café has a particularly special meaning to Concordia students and parents because it is founded by the same parent organization as our school- the LCMS that is based out of St. Louis, Missouri in the USA. For more information on Play Café, make sure to visit their website: playcafehanoi.org or like them on Facebook.

CONCORDIA PRESENTS “REBOOTILIZATION”
FAIRY TALES ARE ON THE LOOSE!
Concordia Upper School students showcased their theatrical talent in front of a full house this past March. Rebootilzation took viewers deep into the SynCryn lab where original narrative DNA for every fairy tale story is kept on ice and a plan to save the world from story obliteration as stories all over the world are under attack. Pages are going blank in a pandemic so big, the government’s involved. Their mission- an easy rebootilization process... so long as there weren’t any glitches in the software, or the director didn’t go crazy, the stories thawed out too quickly, or pirates got loose.
The laughter from the audience during the uplifting performance was evident that a few of those glitches might have come out in the story and in the end, a great performance was enjoyed by all.
A huge thank you to all who came out to watch the show and to so many of the Concordia staff for all their work with the students, costumes, rehearsals, and overall promotion of the play. A special thank you to Concordia teachers, Linda Bloemberg and Jennifer Zimbrick, for taking the lead in directing the play.

MS. HURFORD’S GRADE 3 CLASS GETS EXCITED ABOUT SCIENCE!
“The children are learning about the water cycle so this experiment taught them about what evaporation was and how does water temperature affect evaporation. This not only helps with the understanding of evaporation itself but also the
vocabulary.Their conclusion was: the warmer the water, the more evaporation.
Grade 3 love experiments! It really makes everything so much clearer for them.”
