Spaans Babcock offer 3 options for monitoring of mechanical equipment supplied. These are all acoustic based systems using Holroyd Acoustic Emission (AE) Technology. These systems are suitable for many varied pieces of plant, they are not solely for equipment supplied by Spaans Babcock. Condition Monitoring Option 1 Hand Held Condition Monitoring Unit Option 2 Continuous Monitoring This is a basic system where an AE sensor connected to a portable monitoring unit can be used to measure particular pieces of equipment at a particular instance in time. This simply acquires a reading of the Distress level (dS) and the dB level (dB)of the equipment or bearing. There is no need with AE technology to know speeds of bearings, types of bearings and their characteristics in order to use this equipment and technology on a wide variety of equipment. For areas that are difficult to access such as screw pump bottom bearings we can supply and install AE sensors that are suitable for submerging in a sewage environment. These can be cabled via conduit and protection covers to a local junction box allowing the reading to be taken from above without the need to access the screw pump sump. The system is supplied complete with headphones, charger, spare batteries, sensor and carry case. This involves the connection of permanently installed sensors being connected to a small programmable monitoring relay mounted in a Perspex covered enclosure or the clients control panel. Each relay can transmit an analogue signal for the dS and the dB that it receives from the bearing sensor and has relay contacts for alarm levels that can be utilised. These can be transmitted or integrated into the clients control and monitoring systems as required. It has a LED on the relay front showing the power status and alarm status for each of the 2 alarms set. The advantage of permanent monitoring is that it monitors and sets its alarms 24 hours a day 7 days a week. For all pieces of equipment particularly those that are subjected to high loads at differing times of day or night this can be very advantageous for early prediction of potential problems. The relays store up to 128 days of data that can be recalled via a hand held programming unit if required.

Option 2 Continuous Monitoring

This simply acquires a reading of the Distress level (dS) and the dB level (dB)of the equipment or bearing. This option has all the facilities of option 2 above however a control panel logs all the data received from the sensors. This data can then be either shown live or as historic trends on a PC that is connected to it. Alternatively we also offer a facility whereby we connect to this control panel via a modem (landline or GSM) and download the data to our offices. We then compile on a daily basis the information and post it on dedicated web pages that the customer can access at any time from anywhere. This gives simple and clear to understand information that can be used to locate the source of the problem. Several systems in use now generate a text alarm to the maintenance and operations personnel warning them of any potential problems as they occur. All of the above systems are priced and configured on a site specific basis. Should you require further details these are available for each option.
