Banner Award Assembly The last assembly of the year is our Banner Award assembly, which will be held on Monday, 11 December from 10.30 am. Parents and community are invited to attend. Students who have been Strong, Smart and Proud throughout the year and who have excellent attendance will be presented with their Banner Award. Presentation Day Parents are invited to attend our end of year Presentation Day at the school hall next Tuesday, 12 December from 12.15 pm. The change from evening to day is to allow our students to be acknowledged in front of all peers and allow the opportunity for all students to be present to receive their awards. Parents of award recipients will be notified. Students are required to be in full summer uniform. In addition to students being presented with an array of class and school awards, our 2018 School Captains and Vice Captains, as well as sporting Captains and Vice Captains will be announced. Swimming Carnival Information Entry forms for next year’s swimming carnival will be sent home before the end of the week. Please return this information as soon as possible. Permission notes and more information for the carnival will be sent home in the first week of next year. It is important that parents sign the three (3) sections required, giving permission to be involved, and acknowledging how strong a swimmer the child is and which events they can be involved in. Where the three signatures are not provided, notes will be returned to parents to complete the paperwork. This is a safety requirement. Student Reports It is expected that the End of Year student reports will be issued early next week. With the change of system, reports may not be sent home on Monday as hoped. If your child has not received his or her report by the middle of next week, please contact the school. In the last few of years, there have been some changes in the ways in which English and Mathematics are reported. The expectation across the state for primary students is that there will be an overall English grade and a comment. We understand that this may make it difficult for parents to identify how well a child is performing in specific areas, such as reading, writing or talking and listening. Mathematics is broken into three areas, instead of five as in previous years. Grades are provided for number and algebra, measurement and geometry, and statistics and probability. There is also an overall grade for mathematics. Parents are reminded that a C grade is one that is at the grade expected level. It means: The student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competence in the processes and skills. When you receive your child’s report, please take the time to read the explanation of the grades. The explanations provide a good deal of information around what a student can do. Canteen The canteen will be offering a limited menu next week. Parenting Ideas Blog Being able to tactically ignore taunts is a skill that some people are good at, and others are not. Staff and students have been enjoying our six new colourful outdoor table and chairs settings, manufactured by local company Felton Industries. These not only look wonderful in the playground, the opportunity to sit at each side of the tables provides a better sense of being together when sitting or eating. They are also easy to get in and out of. The new seats are positioned outside the canteen and we welcome you to try them out. Many thanks to our P&C for their generous contribution towards the cost of the seating. We also extend our thanks to Condobolin Aboriginal Health who also kindly donated $1000 towards the cost.
