Problem Statement

Agricultural and rural development are part of a country’s development

Not all of those projects necessarily improve the food consumption and nutrition status of the people living in the project area.

Development planners must take in account the specific nutrition and food consumption of the various project activities

Page 3: Conducting A Community Mini Survey Presentation

Basic questions to be asked:

Who really benefits from the project activities?Do selection criteria for participants (sex, land

ownership) preclude the possibility of participation by the neediest?

Will the project activities displace a traditional activity (marketing of agricultural produce by women?)

What are the nutritional and health problems in the area, and can the project address these problems?

Purpose

Nutrition should not be simply a separate activity within a project but, rather, should be fully integrated into the project planning and implementation process, and that project activities should be designed to have a positive impact on nutrition on the area.– The information on nutrition considerations

on the area must be provided to project planners, so this input can be integrated at each step of the project planning process.

General Objectives:

To help in the planning of agricultural and rural development programs.

Provide information that must be used in the project planning to develop ways to improve food intakes and nutrition among the poorer or more disadvantaged households in the area.

Information base– Prepare and study the profile of the project

area– Study project documents– Review all the decisions already taken

regarding the project; know at what extension these decisions can be modified.
