Today only 25% of Africans have access to electricity

Sub-Saharan Africa has 13 percent of the world’s population, but 48 percent of the share of the global population without access to electricity

82% of electricity generation are in Northern & Southern regions

Africa also has the world's lowest annual per

capita electricity consumption: 450 kWh

Countries with electrification rates of less than 80 percent of the population consistently suffer from reduced GDP per capital

AFRICAN POWER SECTOR

Renewable energy technologies are now the most economical solution for off-grid and mini-grid electrification in remote areas

The share of renewables in Africa can increase

from 17% in 2009 to 50% in 2030, and nearly 75% by 2050 (with hydropower up to 149 GW)

Renewable power generation capacity grew 8,3% in 2015. The highest rate ever recorded

Simple and streamlined power purchase

arrangements, licenses and approvals, and technical standards for inter-connection to the grid are essential to attract investment

RENEWABLE ENERGY IN AFRICA

Africa is only using 5% to 10% of its hydropower potential

Small hydropower would be a holistic solution to Africa's generation capacity gaps

Current status of Hydropower: North Africa – 21% West Africa – 25% South/Central/Eastern Africa – 51%

HYDRO POWER POTENTIAL

Ø Focus on development as regional projects

Ø Large undeveloped capacity

Ø Supplying Africa’s mainly rural populations

Ø Low capital requirements

GANZ ENGINEERING AND ENERGY PRODUCTION MACHINERY LLC. (GANZ EEPM LLC.) IS A HUNGARIAN-RUSSIAN JOINT VENTURE ESTABLISHED IN 2008, WHICH CARRIES ON THE ENERGY PRODUCTION MACHINERY MANUFACTURING ACTIVITY OF THE LEGENDARY GANZ-MŰVEK FOUNDED IN 1844.

Nikola Tesla worked for Ganz in 1880-82.

The world's first transformer in 1885, invented modern power distribution, and the world’s first phase-changing electric locomotive.

Viktor Kaplan’s propeller-type turbine with adjustable blades and pumps of the same type.

20-th century machines, several types of vehicles, locomotives, railway-carriages, hydro-machinery, bridges oil industry equipment et.c.

REFERENCES

• Ganz has manufactured more than 20 fuel handling machines (FHM) for VVER-440 and VVER-1000 Pressurized Water Reactors since 1980

• Ganz has shipped thousands of different pumps, pumping units and complete pumping stations all over the world. A significant number of pumps have been delivered to Western-Europe (e.g. Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands). However, our main market is Egypt, where we have delivered more than 200 complete pumping stations since 1926. Apart from this, Ganz has manufactured systems for South-Africa, Pakistan, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Romania, Yugoslavia, Syria, Iran, China, Tunisia, Vietnam, etc.

• The famous Ganz turbines are in operation all over the world, in India, Turkey, Greece, Yugoslavia, Romania, Poland, Italy, Canada, Iran, and we have also manufactured turbines for Peru and Puerto-Rico.

• Ganz Works has produced stationary and mobile diesel-hydraulic transmission oil drilling equipment for the Hungarian National Oil and Gas Company (MOL).
