Join hundreds of PAs as we return to the beautiful Sheraton San Diego Hotel & marina on August 8-11, 2019. Those who attended the CAPA Summer Conference last year were thrilled with the perfect weather, the conference program and the exciting San Diego location, offering so many opportunities for family fun and nightlife nearby. The Sheraton San Diego is just one mile from the San Diego airport. Each hotel room has a water view. The Amtrak train station is a $10 uber ride away (most times of day). The Waterfront Shuttle runs daily for just $3 per person all day. If driving, there is a long-term parking lot across the street from the hotel offering $10 a day parking or you may pay the $26.50 per day parking fee for CAPA guests at the Sheraton.

Room rates on the water in San Diego often come with a high price. CAPA was able to negotiate an amazing $209 per night rate, with no resort fee for CAPA attendees! You will want to reserve your room early; the CAPA reduced rate block will surely sell out.

In addition, CAPA Summer Conference attendees will enjoy free in-room internet and a 25% discount on self and valet parking. The hotel is offering the CAPA Summer Conference rate a day or two before and/or after the Conference. Make your reservations now. You must book your room no later than July 5, 2019 in order to take advantage of the special rate (assuming there are rooms left in the block on that date). If calling the hotel, be sure to mention the CAPA Summer Conference to receive our special group rate of $209 per night.

SPECIAl CAPA rooM rAtESSheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina 1380 Harbor Island Drive, San Diego, CA(888) 544-2523 $209 per night (special 25% discount on self and valet parking)

Please note: The hotel will be cross-referencing reservation names with our registration list to ensure that everyone who is holding a reservation under CAPA’s block at the special rate is also registered for the CAPA Summer Conference. Those who are not registered for the CAPA Summer Conference by the hotel cut-off date (July 5, 2019) will be moved outside of the CAPA block.

for those of you in emergency medicine or urgent care, friday’s track has a lineup packed with essentials for you.

finally on Saturday, bone up on orthopedics with lectures from top orthopedic specialists.

Each day the general medicine track also offers new and interesting topics, featuring many of your favorite speakers and some new faces to the CAPA Summer Conference program as well. We are particularly excited about this year’s educational program and are confident you will love it. See you there!

a knee and shoulder workshop, providing a comprehensive review of each joint and the various conditions that may be uncovered through a focused examination. The anatomy of each will be reviewed and specific examination techniques demonstrated to help narrow a differential diagnosis for patients who present with knee or shoulder complaints. This workshop will help the PA in any practice, including primary care, emergency medicine, orthopedics and rheumatology.

CErvICAl & luMBAr SPInE ExAMfavorite CAPA speaker, Dr. Gregory Yoshida, will again be presenting his spine workshop for PAs who desire a more in-depth review of the spine and how to examine it. Dr. Yoshida will review the basic anatomy of the upper and lower back and demonstrate specific exam techniques that will narrow a differential diagnosis for even the most difficult to diagnose patients. This workshop will be invaluable for any PA who works with patients with neck and back complaints.

ultrASounDlearn point-of-care ultrasound today and use it tomorrow. This workshop is led by Emergency medicine PA Scott martin who will guide the participants through basic ultrasound functions. A variety of anatomical evaluations will be executed on live models with intimate guidance from instructors. A few of these evaluations include: E-fAST, vascular access, gallbladder evaluation, appendix evaluation, limited cardiac, ocular and much more. This course would be essential for all PAs who have access to ultrasound in their workplace for the benefit of your patients.

Ekg Boot CAMP (prior to the conference on August 7)

PA Jennifer Carlquist returns for this CAPA Conference favorite. This workshop will focus on the high-risk EKG that you can’t afford to miss. A basic 12-lead review will progress into actual cases we will solve. We will also cover five things you should look for on every EKG of a syncope/palpitations patient and document on their chart. Every participant will also receive an “mI Window” to use in class and take home to use in their clinic while reading EKGs. PAs at all levels of EKG interpretation will benefit from this course.

JoInt InJECtIon(Common Musculoskeletal Injections and Joint Aspirations)This workshop is meant for the PA who wishes to gain new experience with joint injections or for the PA who needs to refresh joint injection techniques. Experienced orthopedic PA Eric Glassman, will provide an overview of types of injection materials, including the efficacy of each type for various orthopedic conditions. Pearls and pitfalls of joint injections will be reviewed and hands-on practice with anatomical models will allow the participant to progress through various types of common injections used in primary care, rheumatology and orthopedics.

SuturIngIn this hands-on workshop, learn or review beginning suturing skills, including basic instrument handling and sterile technique, choice of suture material, and stitch selection. This is the ideal workshop for students or PAs needing to learn basic technique or as a refresher.
