7.45am Principalarrivesandunlocks.Someteachersareknowntoarrivebeforethistimebutthatistheirchoice.Somepeopleareearlybirdsandsomearenightowls.Somepeopledothebulkoftheirpreparationatschool–othersdoitathome.Theimportantthingisthatitisdoneandonestillmaintainstheirsanityandthatoftheirpartners.

8.00am Thefirstbusarrives

8.30am Administrationstaffarrivesandtheofficeisopen.

8.40am Bythistimeteachersneedtobeintheirroomswaitingtogreetchildrenastheyenterwithabigsmileandbepreparedtosharesomequalitytimewiththosechildrenwhoneedit.

9.00am Bellgoes,childrenareinsideandthecoretasksofcollectingmoney,markingattendanceregistersandcheckingnoticesareallachieved.Childrenenjoydiscussingtheplanfortheday,whatisexpectedofthemandwhattheyaregoingtoachieve.Qualityisalwayscreatedbythefoundation.Therestofthetimebeforethefirstintervalisprobablythemostimportantlearningtimeofall.Don’twasteit.LiteracyandNumeracybothneedqualitylearningtime.

10.00am-ish BrainFoodBreak.Thisisashort5minorsobreakforthechildrentohavesomebrainfood,water,freshair,gotothetoiletanddofitnessasaclass.ItisPukehouSchool’sphilosophythatabrainfoodbreakisnecessaryatthistimeasithelpsstudentsfocusandlearnmoreefficientlyforthesecondhourbeforeinterval.

11.00am Intervalinthestaffroom.Makeanyvisitorsfeelverywelcome,trytalkingtosomeonedifferentaboutanythingelsebutschool.Takeaninterestinthemasaperson.Haveagoodlaugh.Showthatyoucare.

11.20am-12.30pmMorequalitylearningtime.Makecertainyourclassgetsthefulleightyminutesanditisnotshortenedbyyourunninglate.

12.30-1.35pm Lunchtime:Ifyouareonduty,makecertainyouarriveoutthereontimeatthebeginningsothatchildrenareawareofyourpresence.Alwaysmakecertainthatyoufindatleast30minutesofdown-timeforyoutorelax.

Theafternoon: Beactive,becreative,befun,beinspiring,beorganised,beobservant.

2.50pm Inyourclassroomsettingupforthenextdaywithyourclassensuringthatwhatneedstogohomegetshome:notices,homework,readingandsoon.Communicatewithparents:rememberitisnotthetimetobesoundingoffatyourclass.Itisthetimetobecongratulatingandpraisingthemforalloftheirachievementsfortheday.

3.00pm Bellrings,classleaves.Sharesomethingwithacolleague.Lookaftereach-other’swelfare.

By5.00pmeveryoneshouldhaveleft,lockedyourdoorandtheschoolshouldbeinthehandsofthecleaningstaff.

Thegoaltitleisacommunicative“banner”whichbecomeswidelyknownintheschoolcommunityasanareaforspecialandprioritydevelopment.

Goalsarestatementswhichfocusonasmallnumberofselectedareaforspecialorpriorityattention.Inturn,targetssepcifyingtheparticularaspectsofthosegoalstoreceiveattentioninanygivenyearwillbeshownin

AnnualPlans.Conceivablytherecanbeamultitudeofactivitiesanprojectsaschoolwillwanttoundertakeinanygivenyear.Forthepurposesofthisplan,specialdisciplineisexercisedinselectingasmallnumberofgoalsforeachyear(2)whicharedirectlyrelatedtostudentachievement.Otheractivitiesmaybedetailedinanannualsupplementaryschedule.Goalsmaybevalidforoneormoreyearsdependingonsensibledecisionsaboutattainabilityandsustainability.Itisoftenunrealistictohavetightlydefinedannualtargetsforareasoflearningthattaketimetoadvancetothepointwheregenuinegainsareachievedwithsomedegreeofpermanence.Thisappliesparticularlytohigherlevellearning.

investigatewithouttheconstraintsimposedbytraditionalsubjectbarriers.

The term ‘Information Landscape’ is used to describe information in all formats (print, electronic and artefact), as well as the tool, systems and expertise that make these resources available to students, and aid them in seeking information and using it.
