MEMORY SYSTEM 1/2MEMORY SYSTEM 1/2 RAM DISK – VDISK Option

It’s possible to create a virtual RAM disk emulating an hard disk in the RAM space left free by the DOS.

Advantages

Indefinite number of writings (flash memory has a very high number of writings but not an infinite number)

Faster

Disadvantages

Memory is lost at the boot Free space

Extended DOS l area (360 K)DOS conventional area (640 K )

1MByte

End of RAM

In batch application it is possible to use the free PCMCIA slot to install the Compact ATA Flash Card

Available terminals

F8500

Dl9600 & Dl8600 (internal)

Advantages

Large quantity of additional memory available (128 Mb tested)

Easy upgrade and substitution

Basics on IrDa

IrDa is the universal standardi protocol for Infrared communication between devices (www.irda.org) and it’s composed by an hw layer and some sw layers for a proper handshaking between devices

Not every brand of portable printers supports completely every software layers. As a consequence, to validate a portable printer for our terminals the printer should be tested first. Here is the list of the printers tested directly by us :

COMTEC: Tested on Encore II and Encore III

O’NEIL: Tested on Micro-Flash II

EXTEC: Tested on S3000

SEIKO: Tested on DPU 3445

ZEBRA: Tested on PA400 printer

IrDa Application interfaces

TSR: (Terminate and Stay Resident program) Once installed on the terminal the TSR intercepts every writing attempts to the virtual printer (PRN device) in a complete transparent way.

“type somefile.txt > prn” will redirect the output to the portable printer
