Let’s talk Terminology
_ TDM – Time Division Multiplexing is a type of multiplexing in which two or more bit streams are transferred simultaneously as sub-channels on one communication channel, but are physically taking turns on the channel.
_ SIP – Session Initiation Protocol is a signaling protocol used for setting up and tearing down multimedia communication sessions such as voice and video calls over an IP based network.
_ ITFS – International Toll Free Service is a service available in certain countries around the world that operates very similar to 1-800 services. This is a country by country service.
_ UIFN – Universal International Free-Phone Number is a service similar to ITFS but the 1-800 like number is valid across multiple countries.
_ DID – Direct Inward Dialing is a feature offered by telephone companies so the PBX can route the call to the desired person or bureau within the organization.
_ MOS – Mean Opinion Score is a feature offered by telephone companies so the PBX can route the call to the desired person or bureau within the organization.
_ SBC – Session Border Controller is a device in VoIP networks that exerts control over the signaling involved in setting up, conducting, and tearing down calls.

TDM vs. IP
14Confidential & ProprietaryEnterprise
Traditional TDM Connectivity
_Direct connections to each PSTN limiting redundancy/resilience
_Unable to offer advanced network-based features
_No dynamic bandwidth capability
15Confidential & ProprietaryEnterprise
IP Connectivity_ Single connection
to IP cloud delivers calls to multiple PSTNs
_ Ability to use bandwidth dynamically because of any-to-any connectivity.
_ Lower overhead top provision and maintain
_ Advanced features easy to implement and access.
16Confidential & ProprietaryEnterprise
Today’s Call Signaling Technologies
_ Signaling path and call path are the same
_ Each switch must have all routing information causing longer implementations.
_ All calls traverse public PSTN
_ Signaling path and call path are Separate
_ Lower management overhead as only Gatekeepers or Route servers need to have routing information
_ Only off-net calls must traverse the public PSTN

What is IPVoice Connect?
18Confidential & ProprietaryEnterprise
What is IPVoice Connect
IPVoice Connect allows you, the customer, to use your existing PBX ports, regardless if they are TDM or IP to communicate, both inbound and outbound, over the Tata Communications MPLS network with a world-class global telephony infrastructure.
By using the MPLS network, your outbound calls will be routed to the nearest, Enterprise quality, telephony gateway to ensure the best call quality, while providing some of the best calling rates.
Your inbound calls will be gathered at the telephony gateway nearest to the point of origin, then placing the call on the MPLS network we will route it onwards to its’ final destination based on routing hierarchy you have provided.
