GETTING AROUND

NAVIGATIONDuring the campaign, you have two key tools at yourdisposal to aid your progress across the labyrinthine terrain.

The map in the objectivessubmenu is useful foridentifying where you are inrelation to the next objective.However, the "fog of war"effect means that it's onlypossible to get a clear view ofwhere you are now or whereyou've been before.

The compass, in the topright corner of the mainscreen, is handy for

identifying environmental hot spots, such asenemy positions and objective markers.Once a new primary objective has beenannounced, follow the white arrow on theouter edge of the compass to reach yournew destination. A white circle replaces the

arrow as it passes into the central radar, indicating thatyour goal is close at hand.

STANCES & MOVEMENTYou spend most of your traveling time on foot. There arethree possible stances to adopt during movement, each ofwhich influences your speed, visibility, and accuracy incombat. Learn which type of movement is most appropriatefor a given situation, and gain the upper hand in combat.

STANDINGStanding is the default stance, and offers two variations ofmovement: walking and running.

Walking is obviously slower, but it permits relatively quietmovement. It's convenient for situations where stealth isdemanded—your footsteps are substantially less audiblewalking than running.

Run when speed isimportant—like whenthe route aheadcrosses open terrainwith no coveravailable to shieldyour team.

Both standingmovements leavesquad membersexposed to enemygunfire, because theyare most visible in thisstance. Also,remember that aimingaccuracy is dramat-ically reduced whilestanding, so it'sinappropriate forsituations where precision is important or ammo is low. Usethe standing stance only when speed is desirable.

KNEELING/CROUCHINGKneeling may be the most useful method of travelthroughout your tour of duty. Although movement whilekneeling is not as speedy as movement while standing,kneeling offers substantially reduced visibility and noise. It'sperfect for stealth situations.

IN THE FIELDIN THE FIELD

When you are separated from your squad, the radar

can be the quickest way of finding downed party

members and administering medical support. Look for

the red arrow around the outside edge of the circle,

pointing toward the injured teammate. As you approach, the

radar displays your man as a large red dot.

Sneak slowlyenough and it'spossible to remaincompletelyundetected whilepassing enemytroops. The benefitsare similar to those oftraveling while prone,without so muchrestriction ofmovement.

Furthermore, kneeling permits greater stability when firinga weapon, so your shooting accuracy improves, comparedto standing.

PRONELying prone gives youthe smallest possibleprofile of the variousmovement stances.Using it makes yoursquad a much trickiertarget for enemies. Italso reduces damagefrom grenades.Crawling while proneis the slowest andquietest form of travelavailable, enabling youto move completely undetected in situations where stealthis important. But the restrictive nature and snail's pace ofcrawling make it unsuitable when large numbers ofopponents are in close proximity.

VEHICLESVehicles, although rare, generally offer a fast and efficientmeans of traversing the environments. What's more, mostvehicles are armored and fitted with heavy artillery,providing additional safety when confronted by seriousopposition force.

All controllabletransportation has fourplaces for your team tooccupy. Usually, avehicle offers a combi-nation of a driver seat,passenger seats, andgun placements. Swtchyour teammatesbetween thesepositions at yourdiscretion.

Most vehicles have a damage meter, indicating theamount of fire they can withstand before total annihilation.Equip a squad member with the spanner item and use it onyour transportation to restore some damage capacity.

ORDERSIt's possible to switch between squad members and controlthem individually, but the order system provides a moreefficient means of commanding those not under yourimmediate control.

For the most part, you can issue orders to your squad as agroup, or you can issue independent orders when it'snecessary to perform a certain task but not practical tomanipulate team members directly. Several commands canbe used only on a single character at a time.

FOLLOWThe follow command instructs any numberof soldiers to fall in and join you at yourpresent position. Squad members adopt the

leading character's stance and continue to follow until yougive the halt command or switch control to anothercharacter. Either way, the remaining soldiers wait at theirnew location until given the order to follow again.

HALTThe halt order instructs squad members tomaintain their current positions, while theleading soldier scouts the area ahead alone.

The order can be issued manually or activated automaticallywhen you switch control of a squad member.

A useful feature of the halt command is that it can beissued to individual teammates—great for situations whereit's desirable to have one or several men covering the rearas you proceed.

FIRE AT WILL/STAND DOWNThis order toggles whether squad members,individually or as a group, attack enemysoldiers on sight or hold fire until a fellow

teammate is threatened by enemy fire.

The fire-at-will command (indicated by small crosshairs inthe upper left corner of a character panel) is most usefulduring heavy firefights, when you are engaging largenumbers of enemy troops. Use the stand-down command toavoid alerting enemies to your current position.

SQUAD MEMBER-SPECIFIC ORDERSCertain commands can only be issued to one squad memberat a time. These are activated the same way as the advance-to-position command, but which squad member is affecteddepends on the cursor's location when the order is confirmed.

ADVANCE TO POSITIONThe advance-to-position order enablesyou to precisely movea fellow teammate toanother visible desti-nation. Once thecommand is activated,the screen switches tofirst-person view andan arrow cursorappears. Place thearrow at the locationto which you wish the chosen character to advance. Adjustthe arrow's orientation to alter the direction the characterwill face when he arrives.

HEALDuring the advance-to-position command,place the cursor overan injured squadmember to bring upthe heal option.Confirm, and theselected charactermoves toward thedowned party toadminister medicalassistance.

SHIELDPosition the cursorover a fellowteammate or ally, andthe option to shieldthat characterappears. The selectedsquad member staysclose to the shieldedcharacter and protectsthat character at allcosts. In several

campaign objectives, this command is instrumental to your success.

KILLConversely, select anenemy target, activatethe kill order, and thecommanded characterrains fire on hisopponent until the foeis terminated. Theteam member underorder resumes hisusual behavior oncethe foe has beenneutralized.

PICK UPPosition the cursorover a collectibleobject to order aspecific character toretrieve and equip thatitem. Under normalcircumstances, it'soften easier to controla team memberdirectly whenupdating theirinventory. But thisorder can be invaluable during heated gunfire when ateammate's ammo is running low. Use the cursor to instructa character to loot nearby enemy corpses for weaponsbefore resuming engagement.

MOUNTIssue this commandby positioning thecursor over anycontrollable vehicleand confirming. Squadmembers immediatelyleap inside.

Use this when asingle soldier is closeto the transport buteveryone else ispinned in an opposingcorner. Once inside, make sure the soldier you ordered issitting in the driver's seat, then steer the armored vehicleover to the remaining squad members.

INTRODUCTIONThis is war. At every step through the shadowy jungles,desolate villages, and artillery-ravaged cities, Charlie is only abreath away. Your survival depends on your ability to famil-iarize your squad with and effectively use the wide variety ofweapons available throughout the campaign.

COMBAT BASICS

MARKSMANSHIP

STANDARD AIMINGIn standard third-person mode, youraiming crosshairsautomatically snap tothe nearest enemy asyou traverse thehostile terrain. This is ideal in heavycombat, because youdon't compromiseyour mobility as youdish out hot-leadjustice. But the tradeoff for this freedom of movement isreduced accuracy.

ADVANCED AIMINGAim mode provides afirst-person, down-the-barrel view of enemytroops. This modemassively improvesaiming accuracy,compared to standardmode. Additionally, itallows an extra levelof zoom for manyweapons, enablingrazor-sharp targetingfrom a greater distance.

Not only are youmore likely to hit yourmark with the firstshot, but it's alsopossible to targetspecific areas of anenemy's body.Headshots, forexample, are not onlyspectacularly messy,but can bring youropponents down witha single bullet.

FIRE MODESMany weapons have adjustable fire modes. Exploit these invarious combat situations for greater levels of successduring engagements.

BURST AND AUTOMATIC MODESBurst and automatic modes allow for rapid fire. They'reparticularly well suited to occasions when great numbersof enemies are present and careful aim is not an option.

These modes havetwo significant disad-vantages, however.First, emptyingseveral rounds inquick successioncauses your weaponto recoil and pushesyour aim off, dramat-ically reducing theaccuracy of shots.You can eliminatethis problem, to adegree, by firing weapons in short bursts, then readjustingyour aim.

The second and more obvious disadvantage of burstand automatic modes is that they use more ammunition.When it is imperative that you conserve ammo, use thesemodes with discretion or switch to the single-shotfunction.

SINGLE-SHOT MODESingle-shot mode, as you might expect, permits only oneshot at a time. In terms of accuracy and ammo retention,this mode is far superior to automatic and burst, but in areasheavily populated by VC, using this mode to engageopponents can leave you dangerously exposed.

GRENADES & EXPLOSIVESAs effective as properly used firearms can be, nothing beatsthe devastating effect of a grenade when the odds arestacked against you.

Grenades are particularly handy for wiping out largenumbers of enemies or mounted weaponry in one move,conserving valuable ammo in the process. A well-aimedgrenade also can deal with stubborn opponents who refuseto budge from cover.

Use grenades and explosives with extreme care. Makesure your squad is well outside the blast range beforedetonation—a rogue grenade can eliminate your entire teamin an instant. To minimize risks, use the M-79 grenadelauncher where possible.

MK26 FRAG GRENADEThe Mk26 operateson a timed fuse,which begins tocount down themoment the pin ispulled. You canricochet the grenadeoff walls and aroundcorners before itexplodes, making itparticularly usefulwhen dealing withopponents inawkward places.

The grenade scatters fragments of metal on detonation,however, so it can be absolutely lethal to any squad membercaught in its blast.

MK94 "WILLIE PETE" GRENADEUpon detonation, thiswhite phosphorousgrenade immediatelyignites anything itcomes into contactwith. It's particularlyeffective in enclosed,confined spaces. Tossit into a heavilypopulated room, forexample, to clear thearea swiftly.

Be extra careful when handling the "Willie Pete," and getyour squad well out of range before throwing it. If you findyourself on fire after detonation, lie prone and roll toextinguish the flames.

When the grenade meter, in the bottom right corner

of the screen, is full, the grenade explodes, whether

you've tossed it or not. The grenade meter represents

the time remaining until detonation, and is triggered

when you initially press the fire button. Throw the

grenade, and avoid the embarrassment of having it blow

up in your hand.

Be on the lookout for incoming enemy grenades

during combat. In open areas, your team scatters

automatically to avoid the blast. But when movement

is restricted—in corridors and alleys, for example—

this isn't always possible. In these instances, quickly

evacuate the area and order your men to fall in on your

new position.

Occasionally, in their dying moments, downed VC roll

over and unpin a grenade as you near. Study bodies for

any signs of life as you travel and empty a few rounds

into enemies playing dead to avoid an unexpected blast

from below.

MK18 SMOKE GRENADE/RUSSIANSMOKE GRENADE

The Allied Mk18 isavailable in red,yellow, and greensmoke variants; theRussian smokegrenade emits a thickblack cloud ondetonation.

Whatever the color,smoke grenades existfor one purpose—toprovide temporary

cover while your squad maneuvers through an areaundetected. Smoke grenades are especially handy whenheavy artillery or armored vehicles pin you into a corner.Simply toss a grenade and evacuate under the resultingsmokescreen.

M18 CLAYMORE MINEThe M18 is operatedvia proximity trigger orseparate detonator.It's most effectiveagainst patrols orother enemies whosepath can be predicted.Although situationswhere the M18genuinely proves itsworth are rare, it canbe a formidable toolwhen used intelligently.

STEALTH KILLSSome situations require absolute silence to avoid detectionas you proceed toward an objective. Two weapons can beuseful in these circumstances: the knife and the crossbow.

The knife isprimarily used to slashan opponent's throatfrom behind. Althoughvery effective, theknife has a limitedrange and its userequires a squadmember to be in closeproximity to anenemy. This means

extreme care must be taken to avoid alerting a foe to yourpresence as you close in.

The crossbow ismore suited to areaswhere an enemymust be taken outfrom a distance. Aimfor a headshot whenfiring an arrow—astrike anywhere elseis non-lethal, givingyour adversary theopportunity to raisethe alarm.

WEAPON BASICS

WEAPON CLASSESAll weapons fall in one of four categories: knives, pistols,rifles, and heavy weapons. Learn to differentiate betweenthese classes quickly.

Each member ofyour squad may onlycarry one weaponfrom each class at atime. If a weapon slotis full within acharacter's inventory,that character mustrelinquish his currentfirearm to equipanother from thesame category.

Often, when confronted with a choice of weapons, youmust make snap judgments on the most appropriateweapons to use, factoring in class categories, immediateammo availability, and the strengths of each team memberin handling a particular type of weapon.

Grenades, mines, and other explosives—including

C4—do not fall under a specific class. Squad members

are free to store any amount and combination of these

items in their inventory.

CHARACTER STRENGTHS &WEAKNESSESBy default, each member of your squad has a preferred typeof weapon. Equipping the correct character with the correctweapon type can make all the difference during combat.

Ragman's experience in the field makes him excellent allaround, but his particular strength lies in the operation ofsubmachine guns, assault rifles, and pistols. Junior is a prowith sniper rifles, grenades, and, to a lesser degree,explosives. Hoss is in his element when dishing out heavyfire—equip him with a light machine gun or light antitankweapon and watch for the glint in his eyes.

Cherry's lack of combat experience makes him theweakest link during a gunfight. Although his area of expertiselies in fixing up the squad during battle, kit him out with anassault rifle when engaging enemies.

SKILL POINTS &CHARACTER STATISTICS

Although eachcharacter haspronounced combatstrengths andpreferences at thebeginning of thegame, it's possible torefine and balancethese throughextended play. Createa squad with well-rounded abilities usingthe skill points system available at the end of eachcompleted mission.

For most combat situations, Ragman's proficiency

with numerous weapon types makes him the best

choice to control directly. Switch to Hoss or Cherry

when circumstances require the use of a particular

weapon and you don't wish to compromise Ragman's

inventory.

Skill PointsSkill points are awarded during play, based on

these criteria:

• Primary objectives completed

• Bonus objectives completed

• Infantry killed

• Vehicles destroyed

• Tanks destroyed

• Stealth kills

Use skill points topurchase rank starsacross a wide varietyof categories. Themore rank stars acharacter has next toa particular ability, themore proficient he isat that skill.

Amassed points can either be manually assigned to suityour own preferred play style or automaticallyallocated by the game. The latter option is handy ifyou want to progress through the campaign withoutmeticulous micromanagement of your squad.

SCAVENGINGThroughout the campaign, your squad members areperiodically re-equipped with weapons and supplies,depending on their current situation. Missions beginning inAllied territory frequently yield plenty of munitions; levelsdeep in enemy turf can seem barren.

Stock up on items whenever your squad is lucky enoughto encounter caches. Weapons and ammo becomeincreasingly rare in later missions, so you'll be thankful forthese initial scavenging expeditions.

Consult the maps atthe beginning of eachwalkthrough section inthis guide for alocation-by-locationrundown of keyweapons and supplies.Even if some cachesappear a considerabledistance away fromthe main missionroute, taking time tolocate and equipadditional weapons can often mean the difference betweenlife and death as the campaign continues.Ability Upgrades

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE : PX

First, collect yourequipment from thestores. Follow theobjective arrow on thecompass to the southalong the dirt track.Continue as it bendsto the east and enterthe shack marked"PX" to your right.

Inside, wander into the next room to find your comrades inconversation. Approach the counter and talk to Nash. Once youreceive your kit, talk to him again and he asks you to deliver abottle of whiskey to Sergeant Arnold at the firing range.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE :SQUAD TRAINING

Leave the trainingbooth and take a left.Follow the patharound past thebunker and betweenthe crates. Locate thetrench on the right(due southeast) andhead in.

As you hit the firstjunction, take a rightand proceed into thebunker ahead.

Move to the windowon the right andadopt a kneelingstance. Equip yourM16A1 assault rifleand switch to burstmode. Enter aimmode and starttaking down the VCwho approach thebunker. When theenemy subsides onthis side, go to another window and continue firing untilyou eliminate the threat.

Exit the bunker tothe north and take aright at the junction.Drop down the slopeand follow the path tothe northeast, taking aleft immediately asyou rejoin the deepdirt track. Stick to thetrack as you pass themess hall, then followthe pathway beyond itto the right.

At the fork ahead,turn left and re-enterthe coveredpassageway. As youre-enter the innercompound, headalong the track to thenorth, and enter thecomms bunkerimmediately on yourright. Go through thedoor and approachthe operator in thesoutheast corner of the radio room.

Exit the communi-cations center via thesteps to the right.Outside, follow thetrack around to thenorthwest until youspy the tacticaloperations center toyour right. Enter thebuilding and talk to theguard at the door topass. Head into the

main room and go through the doorway to the right. Chat withthe lieutenant sitting at the desk to give him the communiquéand, as a reward, receive some red smoke grenades.

Back outside, turninto the coveredtrench, posted"Helipad/Motor Pool,"immediately to yourright. Walk along it andexit at the end. Travelnorthwest past thetents until you reachthe dirt track. Follow itto the right as it windsthrough the camp.

At the truck, takethe pathwayimmediately to thesouthwest. Continueahead at the junctionuntil you reach theclearing. Cross overand talk to Warton tobegin your training.

Turn around andface the red flag.Command your squadto fall in, then orderthem to hold theirposition on arrival.Next, order a teammember to advance tothe red flag asinstructed. Positionthe Advance cursorover the base of theflag to ensure that he reaches his destination.

When the squadmember feigns injury,select anotherteammate. Positionthe Advance cursorover the medical fielddressing, near the blueflag to the left.

Confirm the order,and your comradepicks up the dressing.Finally, instruct thesoldier to heal theinjured man byhighlighting the injuredsoldier with theAdvance cursor andconfirming.

plans. Penetrate the jungle, traveling north until you reach a nearby village. Clear the compound of enemy

soldiers, then move to the temple for extraction.

Order Bravo Team tofall in. Move northtoward the remains ofthe APC, then navigatethe crater ahead,turning left. Travelwest along the dirttrack and follow thecivilian as he flees.Fire a warning shotnear him to make himstop before he runsaway. He’ll warn you about the path ahead.

Proceed along thepath and stop justahead of his twitchingbody. Drop to yourknees and take coverin preparation for thefirst enemy ambushfrom the north.

Switch to Junior andeliminate the sniperstationed in the towerto the east, using theM14 sniper rifle.

Resume control ofRagman and continuealong the path,pulverizing the VConslaught.

Turn north again atthe watchtower andproceed with caution.Terminate the patrol inthe bushes to the left,then collect themedical field dressingand stick grenadesfrom around thecampfire.

Return to the maintrack and continuenorth. Swing round tothe west and send afew bullets in thedirection of the VChiding in the under-growth. Sidle into therocky crevice, thenwind along the pathand back into the open.

Maintain yourposition and terminateenemies in your sightsahead. Next, followthe dirt track as itwinds around to thenorth. Stay vigilant forenemies in the heavyundergrowth as youmove along.

The increased sniper activity makes this area

particularly perilous. Concentrate on the ground

troops while your squad picks off the VC stationed in

the treetops.

Keep the sheerrock face to your rightuntil you spy thevillage entranceahead. Move eastalong the alley towardthe main gate.

Open the doorwayand enter the villagecompound. An eldergreets you on arrival,but pleasantries areinterrupted by thearrival of a VC sniper.Bring him down with awell-aimed shot.

It's vital that youavoid injuring civiliansduring your attack onthe VC. Lose oneinnocent and theobjective is failed.However, enemy fire isas deadly as friendlyfire, so you mustexterminate the VCbefore they can takeaim on villagers.

To avoid the sniperfire from the northeast,take cover behind theshack to the leftimmediately. Switch to Junior and use theM14 sniper rifle tobring him down.

Switch to Ragmanand equip the M3A7.Next, order Cherry toshield the villager inthe hut to the west.

Instruct Hoss toshield the villager inthe shack to thenortheast. This shouldprevent enemies fromentering thesebuildings and killingthe inhabitants.

Watch out for incoming VC grenades here, because

movement is restricted. A team member sounds the

alert if one lands in your proximity. If this occurs,

immediately backtrack along the path and order your

team to follow before it detonates. The effect of a grenade in

such a confined space can be devastating to your squad.

Prepare for ambush! The village and surrounding

hillsides are teeming with enemy troops determined

to annihilate your squad and any civilians in the way.

Stay alert and clear the threat quickly, keeping the

villagers from being harmed by either your troop or enemy

attackers.

New Bonus Objective : Hearts & MindsTo win the hearts and minds of the local population

you must show them that you are willing to risk

your life for them. Make sure that all villagers

survive the VC attack.

Proceed north into the square andinstruct Junior toshield the villagercrouched in thebuilding to the west.He takes care of anytroops approachingfrom the rear of thevillage.

Finally, move intosquare and quicklyturn to face south.The door directlyahead swings opento reveal three VC.Empty a clip in theirdirection, then do anabout-face andobliterate thesoldiers emergingfrom the north.

Return to thesquare and order yoursquad to join you.Switch to Junior anddispose of any VCstationed on thehillside around thevillage.

When peace isrestored, switch backto Ragman and travelto the northeastcorner of the square.Look at the ground tothe right of the talltree. The first trapdoorlies underneath thebaskets.

Stand well awayfrom the area, and

order your squad to fall in and hold their position when theyreach you. Enter aim mode and fire at the baskets to tearthem to shreds. When the trapdoor is clear, move over andlift the flap.

There are a total offour weapon caches inthe village and fivepotential hiding spots.Ragman announces ifthere are weaponsunder this trapdoor. Ifthere are, return toyour safe position andthrow a frag grenadedown the hole todestroy them.

Next, destroy thebaskets directly southof the first trapdoor tounearth anothercache. Open it anddestroy any weaponsfrom a safe distance.

To avoid the

premature demise

of the villager

cowering inside the

hut, enter the building,

face the doorway to the

west, and eliminate the

enemy threat from here.

This prevents the VC from

reaching the civilian.

New Bonus Objective : VC CachesSearch the village for any hidden Viet Cong weapon

caches. If a cache is found, destroy it.

From here, travelsouthwest, backtoward the villageentrance. As you passthe building to theright with the bluepaneled wall, check tothe left for trapdoorNo. 3. Wrench it openand lob a grenadedown the hole ifnecessary.

To find the fourthand final cache, returnto the square andenter the hut to thenorth again. Grab themedical field dressingfrom the table on theright and leave via thewestern doorway. Turnleft and check theground along the wall.Yank open thetrapdoor and blast any weapons to smithereens.

If there are noweapons located here,head north and take aright around to therear of the hut. A finaltrapdoor is located onthe ground. If itcontains weapons,destroy it with anothergrenade.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE : LZ

March north into thecovered alleyway.Follow it along andleave the village via thegate at the very end.An enemy is stationedon the rock to the leftas you approach thewooden walkwayoutside. Remedy thatsituation with yourtrigger finger.

Cross the bridge andfollow the pathway asit winds to the north.Order your squad tohold position as youapproach the mouthof the tunnel. Carefullyapproach the first rowof undergrowth andlocate the booby trap.Defuse the tripwire toproceed.

Once the route isclear, command yourmen to follow andcontinue along thetunnel as it moveswest and emergesinto the open. Assumea kneeling stance andmove northwardagain, preparingyourself for the nextVC assault.

Around the bend tothe northeast, engagethe lone patrol on thelower level andimmediately find cover.Switch to Junior anduse the M14 sniperrifle to massacre theenemies patrolling theupper platform.

When the coast isclear, climb the stonesteps at the end of thetrack and enter thetemple.

As the passageopens into the wild,give the order to holdposition and fire atwill. Peek cautiouslyaround the corner andpick off the guardpatrolling the top ofthe rock to thenortheast, using thesniper rifle. BravoCompany eliminatesthe majority of VC while you complete this operation.

Switch to Ragmanagain and equip yourM3A1 to deal with thelarge enemy presenceoutside. Call yoursquad to fall in, anddash to the statue inthe center of theclearing to the north.This shields you fromthe anti-aircraftgunfire.

Switch to Junior andequip the M14 sniperrifle. Lie on your bellyand crawl around therocks until you see theAA gunner. Use a well-placed grenade toswiftly exterminatehim, then swab back toRagman in preparationfor the resulting VCambush to the south.

Once you'vesuccessfully removedthe enemy threat,head north to theplatform housing theAA gun. Your lift out ofthe area has arrivedand is waiting above.As you approach,another wave of VCappears to the east.

Take care of themand the choppermoves west anddeploys red smoke.This indicates yourextraction point, soclimb onto theplatform, turn leftafter the gun turret,and assemble at redsmoke to completethe mission.

assault on the ghost town and your boys must do their best to hold back the onslaught. When the camp is

MISSION 3: TET OFFENSIVE

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE :OUTER PERIMETER

As soon as themission starts, amassive wave of VCfloods in from thewest, outside thebunker.

Quickly switch toJunior and order Hossto advance to thenorthern window.

Next, instructCherry to the windowfacing south andRagman to the bunkerentrance facing east.

Finally, mount theheavy machine gun onthe western wall andenter aim mode.

The sappers chargeat the bunker anddetonate themselvesat close range. Theresulting explosionscan be devastating toyour team, so bringdown enemies assoon as they appearon the horizon.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE :FALL BACK

The Firebase is being attacked by a large force of

Viet Cong Sappers. Defend the Outer Perimeter

until a counter attack can be mounted.

Adjust the Advance cursor before confirming to

ensure all team members are positioned looking out

toward the incoming enemy.

Most of the advancing VC appear from between the

trees directly to the north. Concentrate your fire on

this area but be sure to sweep left and right at regular

intervals to scout for additional enemies.

The Viet Cong are using an old T-34 battle tank to

attack the Firebase. You don't have the fire power to

take on the tank. Fall back to the Colonel's position

within the Inner Compound. Follow the burning

barrels to guide you toward the Inner Compound.

As soon as the tankappears to the west,switch to Ragman andorder your squad tojoin your position.

Exit the bunker tothe east, terminatingany VC troops as youmove along thetrench.

At the end of thetrench, make a right atthe junction. Continuealong into the clearing.Quickly cross theenclosure and enterthe trench along thesouthern wall.

Sprint along thetunnel and out intothe next area. Movealong the path asquickly as possible asit bends east, avoidingthe heavy gunfire andmissile attacks.

Pass into theremains of the ovaltrench ahead andtake a right, elimi-nating the enemyguard in your path.Follow the routearound until youreach a large gatewayto the southeast.Polish off the VC thatappear overhead andmove on through.

It's vital that you command your squad to fall in as

soon as the tank appears. If it fires into the bunker or

at the mounted gun, the resulting explosion almost

certainly wipes out your entire team.

Speed is essential here. Dither too much and the T-

34 tank penetrates the outer wall onto your

position. Its gun turret is more than a match for

your squad, so beware!

As you move toward the inner compound, listen for

the VC attack whistle. A small party of enemy soldiers

arrives shortly after the sound, so when you hear it,

ready your squad for conflict.

MISSION 3: TET OFFENSIVE

Order your squad tofall in, then take coverbehind the stoneblocks close to theparatroopers.

Next, instructJunior and Hoss to shield theparatroopers andbegin taking downthe VC who emergefrom the tunnel tothe southeast.Enemies also appearfrom the gateway tothe northwest, sostay alert.

Keep shooting until the VC threat is quashed. Order yoursquad to fall in and follow the path to the northeast, makinglight work of the enemy ambush.

Approach thesergeant waiting bythe watchtower andtalk to him. The VCbegin their assault onyour current position,so take cover andfend them off.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE : AIR SUPPORT

Once all theseenemies have beendefeated, a secondambush begins fromthe trenches leadinginto the innercompound. To stemthe flow, mark thetrench entrances tothe northeast,southeast, southwest,and northwest bytossing yellow smoke grenades in their direction.

Circle the raisedcentral mound andfollow the objectivemarker on the radar tolocate the four targets.When a target ismarked, stand clear ofthe area and orderyour squad to fall inbefore the air strikecommences.

Duck down into the

U-shaped bunker to

your left with your

back against the wall.

Face the open side of the

bunker and order your

men to fall in. This position

provides excellent cover

and enables you to safely

eliminate any enemy troops who approach.

The area around the watchtower contains a large

stash of weapons and items. Try to grab these and

assign them to the correct team member while the

opportunity is available. Ammo starts to get very short in

later levels. Don't forget to collect the yellow smoke grenades

and medical field dressings while you're at it.

The VC continue their attack while you work to

complete the objective. Standing and breaking cover

actually makes this task easier, because you can

move more swiftly around the compound. Stay alert to

the enemy presence and eliminate anyone who gets in

your path.

When the tankappears, switch toCherry. Take cover inone of the U-shapedbunkers and orderyour squad to fall in.Next, command themto hold their positionso they remain out of sight.

Finish marking thetrench entrances withyellow smoke andgrab an M72 LAWfrom around thewatchtower perimeter.Locate the tank andapproach cautiously.The tank stops androtates its gun turret ifits crew spots you.Quickly take coverbehind the watchtower, wait for the gun to shoot, thensprint over and fire the M72 LAW in its direction before itcan move again.

Repeat this process,collecting more ammofor the M72 LAW asrequired, until the tankis destroyed and themission is complete.

Disable the first trapa short distance alongthe current path.Continue along to thenortheast and pauseat the next fork.Disarm another boobytrap at the center ofthe junction beforeproceeding.

Switch to Junior andequip the M14 sniperrifle. Lie prone andsneak along thepathway to the left,using the bushes ascover. When you havethe machine gunner inyour sights, pull thetrigger and say adios.

Switch back toRagman, then orderyour squad to hold itscurrent position. Theyeliminate theapproaching enemieswhile you carry outthe next task.

Move along theright fork toward thesoutheast. At the nextjunction, take a leftand run along untilyou spot the triggeredspring trap on the left-hand side. Loot thesoldier's body andcollect the dog tags.

Turn around, take aright at the previousjunction, and return toyour squad. Proceedalong the north-westerly path, adoptinga kneeling stance andmoving cautiously. Tominimize the threatfrom VC mines, stick tothe center of thepathway ahead.

As the route bendsto the west, pause atthe lantern on theright. Crawl slowlyforward until a squadmember calls thewarning for a VC trap.Find the spring trapconcealed in thebushes to the left anddisarm it beforeproceeding.

Stay vigilant anddisable the minealmost directly ahead.Continue along thetrack until you reachtwo statues flankingyour route.

The roads throughout this environment are riddled

with VC mines. Adopt a kneeling stance and proceed

cautiously along the path, keeping an eye on the ground.

A team member calls out a warning as you approach a

trap. Stop immediately and search out the glowing area on

the ground, indicating a mine. Approach carefully and disarm

it before continuing.

Sneak around theHuey toward theclearing exit, due east.Quickly finish off themachine gunnerguarding the pathbefore he has time to react.

Move out onto thetrack and turn left atthe junction, travelingnorth. As the pathwidens, locate anddisarm the three traps before windingto the east.

Before you reachthe burning torch,instruct your team tohold position andtravel southwest upthe incline. Collect thedog tags locatedbetween the twobushes directly ahead,return to your squadand order your teammembers to fall in.

Pass the burningtorch to the right andshoot down thenearby VC troopsbefore they spring intoaction. Eliminate themachine gunnerstationed in the rockfissure to thesoutheast, then dashto the large rocksahead. Use them ascover and clear out the enemy patrols to the northeast.

When peace isrestored, enter therock fissure and followit around. At the otherend, before you stepinto the open, orderyour men to hold theirposition. Switch toJunior, equip the M14sniper rifle, and dropto your knees.

Sneak into the open and look left.Activate aim modeand quickly pick offthe enemy snipersstationed on top ofthe rocks ahead.

When it is safe toproceed, switch backto Ragman andinstruct your squad tofall in. Follow the pathright, traveling downthe incline and overthe hot spring.

Navigate thebamboo thicket untilyou spy a pool ofwater to the right.Collect the ammosurrounding thenearby corpse, thensnatch his dog tags.

Proceed north withcaution and toss afrag grenade towardthe machine gunneras the campfire comes into view. Beyond the fire, take theright fork to the north.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE :ESCAPE

The demolished bridgelies to the north butoffers no route tosafety. Quickly orderyour squad to fall in,then travel east andplunge into the stream.

Follow it to thesouth and around tothe east. This area isteeming with VCtroops, so movequickly and eliminatethe enemy swiftly.

At the large boulderobstructing the pathahead, movesoutheast onto thedirt track and continuealong until it rejoinsthe stream. Continuesouth through thewater until theobjective is complete.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE :MEAT GRINDER

Immediately takecover behind thelarge boulder to theright of the stream,and order your squadto hold their position.Switch to Junior andequip the M14 sniperrifle. Adopt a kneelingstance and cautiouslymove around therock to the left. Usethe foliage as cover and eliminate the VC patrolling thenorthern bank.

When the coast isclear, switch to aimmode, zoom in, andsearch out themachine gunnerstationed in thebunker directly to thenorth. Bring him down,then shift counter-clockwise around thelarge boulder.

Two more machinegunners are inbunkers to the northand northeast.Eliminate them, usingthe sniper rifle, beforeproceeding.

Switch to Hoss,equip the M60 LMG,and order the team tofall in. Quickly sprintup the northern bankand take a left at therock face. Travel westand pass into the gullyyou encounter ahead,following it around tothe east. VC troopscontinue to spill intoyour path as you navigate the gully.

At the end of thegully, drop into thetrench to thenortheast. Head southand enter the bunker.Switch to Ragman andgrab the Type-56assault rifle in thenortheast corner ofthe room. Equip itimmediately.

Back outside, travelnorth to the junctionand take a right.Under the coveredarea, turn into theroom on the left andswipe the medicalfield dressings on thetable to the southeast.

Return to thecovered corridor andhead west, back to thejunction. Follow thetrench north and takea right as the routeforks. Proceed alongthe path and turn intothe trench to the left.Continue onward intothe caverns, thentravel along the tunnelto the north.

Grab the medicalfield dressing fromthe torch-lit crate.Next, switch toJunior and order yoursquad to holdposition. They takecare of enemiesentering the tunnelsfrom the east while

you penetrate thebase using stealth.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE :PENETRATE VC BASE CAMP

Equip the M1911silenced pistol andmove slowly along thepassage leading west.Shoot out the lanternslining the tunnel wallsto the left foradditional cover.

If ammo supplies are getting low, try conserving them

by switching to a single-shot weapon or ordering your

squad to hold fire. Take the lead and equip Ragman's

M3A1 "Grease Gun" SMG or Hoss's M60 LMG to

terminate the enemy threat quickly. Remember, if you're in

dire straits, the enemy routinely drops MAT-49 SMGs. Equip

one to remain protected.

LZ Mike is to the north of the Viet Cong camp. Find

a way through the camp to progress north to the

LZ. Tactical hint: If a perimeter guard spots one of

your boys, he will try to raise the alarm and alert

the camp.

Follow the corridoruntil the tunnel mouthappears in view to thenorth. Immediatelymove in close to thewall on the right andwait for the VC patrolto pass by outside. Ashe does, slowlyadvance toward theexit, crossing over tothe right-hand wall.

Peer around thecorner to thenorthwest on reachingthe tunnel mouth, andwait for the guard toresume his travelsbehind the large rockahead.

Cautiously locatethe second guard,directly to thenorthwest and partlyhidden by foliage.Quickly take him downwith a headshot, thendart back inside thetunnel.

Face the exit againand wait for the VCpatrol to pass by oncemore. As he does,sneak out into theopen and silentlyneutralize him with aheadshot as hepauses to thenorthwest.

Travel cautiouslyalong the path, overthe body. Move inclose to the large rockon the right and sneakforward until the treestump blocks theroute ahead. Facenortheast and bringdown the guardpatrolling in thedistance.

Next, return to thetunnel mouth, lie proneand crawl along thepath leading northeast.Still keeping down,take the first path offto the left and continuealong, moving north.Peer over the ridgeahead, overlooking thearea below.

As the Viet Congguard moves into viewin the distance, pickhim off with anotherheadshot before hecan reach the alarmon the camp wall.When the route aheadis clear, order yoursquad to fall in. Switchto Ragman and travelnorthwest, followingthe pathway moving toward the camp entrance.

Cautiously approachthe ledge at the end ofthe route and disarmthe tripwire spanningthe route ahead. Dropoff the ledge downinto the camp.

It's vital that you eliminate the VC troops in this area

quickly and silently. If you're spotted, enemies make a

run for the camp to alert everyone to your presence. If

this happens, you have a much tougher fight on your hands.

In preparation for the assault on the VC base,

distribute medical field dressings to your squad.

Ragman is used heavily in this assault, so equip him

with several extra medical field dressings, as the enemy

targets him more frequently.

Head north, stickingclose to the buildingon the right-hand side.Swing to the east andclimb the steps upinto the hut. Turn leftand swipe the medicalfield dressing and thefirst batch of VC intelfrom the northeastcorner of the room.

Back outside, wanderinto the buildingdirectly to the east.Quickly take out theradioman facing theeastern wall, thenbring down theshutters to your right.Approach the table tothe east and collectthe medical fielddressing and secondstash of VC intel.

Leave the hut andturn left, travelingaround the building tothe east. Stick close tothe wall on your rightand order your squadto hold position as youapproach the fenceahead.

Adopt a kneelingstance and movecautiously toward thefence. Quicklyeliminate any VCsoldiers who appearto the east and west,and proceed uninter-rupted.

When the threat isminimized, peek outfrom behind thefence. Exterminatethe enemy manningthe AA gun to theeast, then run inbefore another cantake his place. Lob an Mk26 frag grenadeat the gun to blast itto pieces.

Cross the clearing,taking the trackleading around to theeast. Navigate thecentral mound,destroying anywayward VC, andenter the first buildingyou reach to thenortheast.

New Bonus Objective : Gather VC IntelSearch the camp for any Viet Cong intelligence

papers.

While you're in buildings, prevent attacks from

outside by firing at the window shutters along the

walls. Shotgun blasts or similar bring the shutters down

and shield your team.

New Bonus Objective : Destroy AA GunsThe Viet Cong have two Russian-made ZSU-4 AA guns

deployed within the camp. Destroy them to stop

Charlie from shooting down any more U.S. aircraft.

One of your squad members may take out the AA

gunner during conflict. If you notice the gunfire

subside, make the most of the opportunity and

immediately send a grenade its way.

Inside, move towardthe crates stacked inthe northwest cornerof the room and grabthe VC intel on theground to the right.

Leave the hut, turnright, and travel alonguntil you rejoin the dirttrack heading north.Continue along to theend of the track andstep inside thebuilding to the right.

Walk to the end ofthe corridor, nipthrough the doorwayon the right, andswipe the last piece ofVC intel from the tablein the southeastcorner of the room.Order Hoss to take theType-56 assault rifleand ammo.

Back outside, move south along the track and enter thebuilding to the right. The VC presence is extremely concen-trated here, so prepare for battle.

Follow the corridoraround to the northand pass through thefirst door on the right.

Take the medicalfield dressing from thetable to the left andswitch to Ragman, ifnecessary. Snatch theType-56 assault rifleand ammo from thetable against theeastern wall, thenswitch to Hoss. Claimthe Degtyarev RPDLMG and ammo fromthe shelf to the south, then swap back to Ragman.

Leave the room,continue north, andtake the next door tothe right. Order Cherryto pick up the Type-56assault rifle and ammofrom the southerntable, then head westinto the courtyard.

If you're

struggling to deal

with the enemy in

such close confines,

equip Ragman's 12-gauge

shotgun, head outside,

and station your squad

on either side of the

building entrance. Simply

blow a hole in each enemy

soldier as they leave the hut in search of your team. When

Order your squad to join you andimmediately beginrunning along thepath due southeast.Stick to the path as itwinds back towardthe Viet Cong baseand show no mercyto enemy troops whoget in your way.

Travel along the dirttrack to the southeastand follow it past theremains of the AA gunfrom earlier. Obliterateany VC troops whosurvived the first airstrike.

As the road bendsto the north, keep to itand pass between thebuildings ahead. Leavethe base via thegateway at the end ofthe track.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE :ESCAPE

Switch to Junior, equipthe sniper rifle, andtake the path to thenortheast. Threewaves of VC arepositioned along theroute. As they appearin view, adopt akneeling stance anduse nearby rocks orfoliage as cover.Eliminate the enemyand proceed with caution.

The road slowlymoves around to thewest, revealing a largenumber of Viet Congstationed behind rocksin the center of thepath. Before engagingthem, terminate thesniper positioned highup on the rock ledgeto the right.

Maintain yourposition and massacrethe enemy threatahead. When safety isrestored, slowly movealong the path andlocate the booby trapmine. Disarm it, thenorder your squad tofall in.

Before entering the

camp, listen for the

roar of jet engines

overhead. This sound

signifies an imminent

napalm strike. Stay clear

of the camp entrance and

wait for the first strike to

occur before proceeding.

After the explosion subsides, immediately run into the base

and continue along the route as speedily as possible. The

next strike hits soon, so it's vital that you reach the exit

before you get caught in the blast.

Continue west,following the roadalong until youapproach the bunkerdue east. Swiftlyremove the VCmanning the machinegun inside.

Quickly dash insidethe bunker and holdyour position. Ammoallowing, use thesniper rifle to bringdown as many enemysoldiers situated onthe bridge to the northas possible.

Instruct your team tojoin your position andcross the bridge,annihilating anyenemy stragglers onthe far side. Assumingno grenade detonatedany of the VC boobytraps, three mines aresituated along themiddle of the bridge.Proceed cautiouslyand disarm them as you move north.

Enter the tunnelahead and takeadvantage of the Type-56 assault rifle andammo if required.

Back outside, followthe dirt track east andprepare to engage theenemy around thenext corner. Sneakover and drop pronebefore aiming yoursights on the swarmof VC ahead.

to scavenge weapons from the large number of enemy

corpses littering the bridge. MAT-49 SMGs are partic-

ularly useful, being the Viet Cong gun of choice in this

region. Downed VC frequently drop additional ammo for the

weapon as you proceed.

When the gunfiresubsides, resume yourjourney north. Followthe path as it bends tothe west and finallynortheast into theruins.

Quickly dive throughthe doorway to theright and into thetemple, before theambush to the northof the river begins.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE : PBR

Take a right and headeast through the ruins,obliterating any enemysoldiers who appear.

Move along thecorridor into the nextarea. Leave via thesouthern exit andcollect the weaponsand ammo around thecorner of the buildingto the left. Once yoursquad is restocked,return to the previouschamber and leave viathe exit to the north.Head right and enter the structure to the northeast.

Immediately disposeof the lone VC patroland move north alongthe corridor. Swipe theVC intel and Mk18 redsmoke grenades fromthe crate situated inthe corner.

Turn around andpocket the VC inteland three stickgrenades from thetable to the south,killing any enemieswho approach fromthe east.

One of your

opponents is armed

with an RPG-2 rocket

launcher. Take him out

before he has chance to

launch a devastating

attack on your party.

Your only chance of escaping the Viet Cong is to

reach the river and attempt to flag down the

passing PBR River Boat. Find a way down the river

Take a left andmove into theclearing. Trek alongthe route to thenortheast and passbeneath the archway.Stay with the path asit winds through thejungle.

If Junior still hasammo left in hissniper rifle, switchover and equip theweapon. Order yoursquad to follow andslowly creep aroundthe corner to thesouth.

Immediately bringdown the VC in thepath ahead, then aimyour sights on theenemy troopsapproaching from thesoutheast andsouthwest. Takecover behind thelarge boulder ahead if you need to movein closer.

At the sheer rockface to the east, takea right and beginascending the inclinearound to the west. Atthe end of the ledge,turn left and followthe gully leadingsoutheast.

There's a booby

trap along the left-

hand side of the path

as you round the first

corner. Although it can be

avoided by sticking to the

right-hand wall, there's

no guarantee your men

do the same. Approach it

carefully and disarm it before any nasty accidents can

happen.

As the route begins

moving east, there's a

second trap in your

path, hidden in the foliage

to the left. Disarm it

before proceeding.

Snipers are on the

rock ledge directly to

the south. Attempt to

bring them down as soon

as they're in range to

reduce casualties.

Once the Viet Cong presence has been removed,

scout out the clearing for additional weapons and

ammunition. This is the last opportunity you have to

stock up before tackling the final obstacles ahead.

As the path forks tothe south, take thesouthern route toavoid the booby trapspositioned to the east.

Follow the track as itmoves west, then haltat the mouth of theclearing to the south.Go into the kneelingstance and slowlycrawl around thecorner to the left. Usethe foliage as coverand switch to Juniorwhen the bunkerscome into view.

Command yourmen to hold theirposition, equip thesniper rifle and dropprone. A large boulderis positioned to theright of the southernpath. Sneak over andtake cover behind it.

When you're out ofenemy view, slowlybegin creeping roundthe boulder to theright. You encounterthree more boobytraps as you travel.Defuse the first twomines, then deal withthe trip wire beforecontinuing.

As you passalongside thevegetation to theright, stick close to theboulder and enter aimmode. Terminate theVC machine gunnersmanning the twobunkers to the south,then swing southwestand take out the last.

Immediately switchto Ragman, order yoursquad to join yourposition and movedown the southernpath toward thebunkers. Obliterate theenemy threat in theclearing swiftly, beforeany VC troops canstation themselves ata machine gun again.

Follow the pathbetween the bunkersto the south andenter the gully.Terminate the VietCong presence andfollow the route as itbends east.

Disarm the tripwirebefore the final rightturn, then proceed tothe waterfront andflag down the PBR tocomplete the mission.

Almost directly before the boulder, you uncover an

enemy mine. Be sure to disarm it before continuing.

As you close in on thesecond cluster ofwaterfront shacks,engine failure bringsthe PBR to a halt.Concentrate yourattack on the VCvessel thatapproaches. Eradicatethe crew and maintainfire until the targetexplodes.

Turn your sights tothe right and engagethe VC positions untilthe area is safe.

Finally, check thewestern bank foradditional enemyactivity. When all isclear, the PBRresumes its journeyalong the river.

Deeper into thejungle, the first VCconvoy passes alongthe upper bank ahead.

Immediately openfire on the Jeep at thefront of the convoy tobring it to a standstill.Next, target the twofollowing trucks untilthey explode. Bequick—the time tocomplete this task is extremely short.

When the PBRapproaches the canalgate, pick off the VCstationed above.

Next, concentrateyour fire on the enemyvessel ahead. Destroyit quickly to avoidcollision and potentialdamage to the PBR.

The canal is heavilypopulated by machinegunners secured inbunkers on the banks.Destroy these beforeslaughtering footsoldiers.

As the canal windsaround, the PBRpasses under anotherbridge. Immediatelylook to the southeastand begin decimatingthe second convoy asit travels over thebridge ahead.

The next bridgeoverlooks a mass ofenemy mines in thewater. Switch toRagman and enter aimmode beforedetonating them froma distance as quicklyas possible.

The PBR comes to astandstill in the nextclearing. As yourvessel begins movingwhen the enemythreat has been exter-minated, seek out theVC caches first. Fire atthe cache directlysouthwest until itexplodes.

Break through the canal gate and pass the Viet

Cong defenses.

If anything, this convoy is faster than the first. Once

again, take out the leading Jeep to bring the

procession to a halt, then aim toward the trucks. As the

PBR disappears under the bridge, quickly switch to Hoss

on the right or Doc at the rear to finish them off.

New Bonus Objective : Arms CachesThere are several Viet Cong arms caches on the

riverbank ready for transportation. Destroy them.

Next, destroy thecache up the bank tothe north.

Finally, switch toDoc and demolish the cache to thesoutheast, under thebridge.

Swap back toRagman and turn yourattention to thesurrounding Viet Congtroops. The machinegunner to the southand the patrol to thewest are a particularthreat so destroythem swiftly.

Lock the armoredtank in your sights asit trundles down thenorthern bank, thenpump it full of leaduntil it explodes. ThePBR resumes itstravels along the river.

There are twoloaded enemy vesselsahead as the PBRrounds the corner tothe northwest. Openfire on themimmediately.

Farther along thecanal, another vesselconceals a Viet CongRPG. Swiftly bring himto his knees beforesending his trans-portation sky high.

The final stretch ofwater lies to the east.As you approach thesecond canal gate,three Viet Cong boatsappear and your PBRcomes to a stop.Quickly wipe out thecrew on each anddetonate the vessels toclear the path ahead.Next concentrate yourfire on the patrols guarding the bridge above.

As the PBR passesunder the canal gateahead toward safety,the mission iscomplete.

Outside, travelsouth around the hutand collect thecrossbow arrows fromthe alley to the rear.Return to the hutentrance and movewest. Speak to thewhite-haired womanby the cart to receivethe crossbow. Finally,talk to H'Dione at the

village gates. She will be your guide through the jungle to thetemple.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE :PROTECT

Stick close to H'Dioneand wind through theundergrowth asquickly as possible.

H'Dione comes to ahalt in front of a VietCong booby trap.Slowly move to thesouthwest anddisconnect thetripwire to continue.

To the west,footprints in the mudindicate VC troops inthe vicinity. Stayarmed and vigilantfrom this point on.Your guide pausesfarther along the trackto avoid detection bythe enemy. Order yourmen to hold theirposition and instructDoc to shield H'Dione.

If you stray too far from your guide, she stops and

your radar, then catch up with H'Dione to proceed

through the jungle.

Proceed northeastand immediately takea left up the incline tothe northwest. Sneakup behind the guardand slit his throat.

Take another leftand follow the dirttrack all the wayaround until it bendsback to the northeast.Avoid the spike trapsituated midway alongthe path. Approachthe next guard,stationed up theincline, from behind.Again, slash his throatto move on.

Slowly walk alongthe stream to theright, keeping to thebushes.

Face the incline tothe northeast on theopposite bank. Equipthe crossbow, waitfor the guard toappear in view, andtake him down with aheadshot.

Move slowly to theeast, along thestream, until you havea line of sight betweenthe rocks ahead. Waitfor the patrol to returnto his position and usethe crossbow againfor a silent kill.

Cautiously moveover to his body, usingthe rocks as cover,and face the path tothe southeast. As soonas the guard's headappears over the browof the hill, fire anarrow in his direction.The area is now clearfor H'Dione toproceed.

The next area is thick with VC patrols. Equip the K-

bar knife and move as slowly as possible through the

area. If you're spotted, the resulting enemy ambush

causes H'Dione to panic and flee directly into danger. To

ensure she comes to no harm, use only stealth kills.

H'Dione automatically proceeds along the path once

the coast is clear, but at a very slow pace. To speed

things up, find her again. As you approach, she breaks

into a run, leading you toward the next destination.

Backtrack westalong the stream andclimb the incline tothe northeast. Orderyour squad to join youand rendezvous withH'Dione at the brow ofthe hill.

To make the routeahead safe, runnortheast anderadicate the enemypresence. As H'Dioneresumes her journey,catch up and followalong to the east.

When she comes toa standstill again, headnorth and terminatethe VC troopspatrolling the roadahead.

H'Dione runs to thenortheast when theroute is clear. Stayclose and keep to thetrack as it winds tothe north and aroundto the west. Climb thetemple steps and talkto H'Dione. Once thetemple gates areunlocked, she returnsto the village.

Adopt a kneelingstance and movecautiously inside thegates. A large wave ofViet Cong appearsfrom inside thetemple. Open fire andbring them downswiftly.

When peace isrestored, move northup the steps andfollow the ledgearound the building tothe left. Go throughthe main entrancethat lies to the right.

Quickly decimatethe enemy troopsinside and move upthe first passage to theleft. At the junction,collect the medicalfield dressing to theeast, then head westand drop down thesteps into the open.

New Bonus Objective : Ammo DumpsThe VC are using this area as a staging post to

attack further down into South Vietnam. Disrupt

these attacks by destroying any ammo dumps

you find.

Make a right andclimb the steps ahead.Follow them roundand proceed along theupper level until youreach the torch-litpassage moving north.

Follow it along intothe next room andtravel east. Quicklydispose of any VCtroops who storm the area.

Move to the easternend of the chamberand restock yoursupplies in the roomto the south. Next,return to the previousarea and take thepassage leading north.Turn right in the nextcorridor and approachthe prisoner on theground to thenortheast. Set him free.

Turn around andmove west along thecorridor. Explore thealcove off to the northto locate and free thesecond prisoner.

south. You already have the advantage from this

position; for even more protection, take cover behind the

balcony directly ahead.

Next, follow theperimeter wall to theeast and around to thenorth. The templeentrance lies to theright, flanked bytorchlight. Toward thenorthwest, at the footof the stone statueahead, lies the fifthand final prisoner. Freehim, then leave thetemple to the east.

Follow the trackalong to the southeast,back toward thevillage. You periodicallyencounter VC troopson the return journey;dispose of them swiftly.

At the fork, movesouth and descendthe incline until youreach the stream.

Head left and stickto the water as itmoves southeast. Jointhe path to the right,just before the largetree, and continue in asoutheasterly directionover dry land.

Eventually, the pathturns south. Stay closeto the left-hand wallas it winds southwestto avoid straying fromthe route.

The home stretchslowly bends east,back toward thevillage. Engage the fewremaining enemysoldiers and maintainyour direction.

When you arrive atthe village, enter themain gates andproceed into theshack directly ahead.Inside, return to theheadman's chamberand talk to him tocomplete the mission.

The jungle can be confusing to navigate, especially

without H'Dione's assistance. Keep your eye on the

radar's objective marker as you penetrate deeper into

the trees to avoid getting lost.

This vantage pointgives perfect views ofthe enemy entry pointsabove your head to thesoutheast, from thebunker to the southand along the trenchto the west. As soonas VC stray into sightfrom these locations,eliminate them.

Throughout the course of the assault, NVA officers stormthe compound alongside their troops. Five approach from thesouthern perimeter and later, five more from the northernperimeter. Kill them all to complete the bonus objective.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE :NORTHERN PERIMETER

Before the assault on the compound begins, distribute

your supply of medical field dressings evenly across

the squad so your men can heal themselves where

possible. This enables you to focus on bringing down the

NVA and minimizes situations where you have to break cover

and risk exposure to heavy enemy gunfire.

Defend the southern perimeter. If the enemy

breaches the perimeter, the Firebase will be

overrun.

Before engaging

the enemy, empty a

When the coast isclear, slip down theslope and take a right.Enter the trench duenortheast.

Follow the trencheastward and blow upthe diesel barrel asyou approach the bluebunker. Finally, stationyourself facing westalongside the outerwall of the bunker.

Eliminate theenemy as theyapproach from thewest and from insidethe bunker.

When the pathahead is quiet, orderyour team to holdtheir position andquickly move west.Dive inside the bluebunker to the right, atthe opposite end ofthe trench.

Collect the letterfrom Private Foley'sbody and return toyour squad.

Continue to engagethe enemy onslaughtas they approach.When the last VCtroop is exterminated,the mission iscomplete.

The clearing is now alive with activity from overhead.

Make sure you evacuate the area as quickly as

possible. The frequent missile drops finish your squad

off almost instantly if they get caught in the blast.

Silently grab thecrossbow and arrowsfrom the table in thenortheastern corner ofthe area, then slip intothe room to the north.Pocket the binocularsand M6 bayonet knifefrom the crate to theright. Finally, take themedical field dressingfrom the southeastcorner of the room.

Return to Doc andleave the hut via theentrance to the west.Take a right and usethe knife on the guardahead for a silentstealth kill.

Turn around andproceed back alongthe walkway, headingaround the corner tothe east. As youapproach the guardfrom behind, raiseyour knife and silentlyslash his throat.

Descend the stepsdirectly to the east.Stick close to the wallon the right andslowly move throughthe water.

At the corner of thehut, peek around tothe south and use thecrossbow to take outthe guard with aheadshot.

Switch to Hoss andwait for the VC patrolto appear along thebank to the east. Whenhe starts headingaway, quietly trail himup the bank and takehim down with anarrow to the headwhen he pauses at thecorner of the alley.

Immediately turnyour attention to theguard stationed in thewatchtower above;pierce his skull withanother arrow.

Enter the buildingdirectly to the south,up the steps. Inside,check out the room tothe east and grab themedical field dressingand stick grenades.

Return to the hutentrance and slowlymove back into theopen. At the bottom ofthe steps, move eastand follow the alleyaround to the north,keeping close to thewall on the left.

Continue past thegas tank and stopbehind the jutting wallpartition ahead. Facethe crates placed atone end and peeraround the corner. TheVC patrol travels upthe alley from thewest, stops inside thedoorway to the north,and finally approachesthe partition before moving away again.

As he does, followhim silently. Travelpast the doorway onthe left and duckaround the corner ofthe hut on the northside of the building.Using the corner ascover, face northeastand wait for the guardto reappear.

As he pausesbefore entering thehut, quickly sneak upbehind him and slithis throat.

Return to the cornerand peek around intothe alley to the west.Wait for the enemypatrol to return to hisposition at the bottomof the path directlyahead, then use anarrow to exterminatehim silently.

Enter the hut, usedas a Viet Cong armory,to the north and grabthe VC cage key fromthe table against thenorthern wall. Next,leave the building andhead along the path tothe south.

Duck into the hutentrance on the rightand collect theTokarev pistol andammo and the secondVC cage key from thecrate in the southwestcorner of the room.

Leave the hut andproceed back alongthe alley to the south,taking a right at theend. Wander down thebank toward Hoss anduse the key on the celldoor to free him.Finally, move to thecell on the right.

Follow it along andenter the containmentarea to the right.Move into the passagebetween the two cellsimmediately aheadand cautiouslyapproach the VCguarding the gate atthe end. Slash histhroat from behind.

Turn around andapproach the left-handcell directly ahead.Free Junior, using thekey, then order yoursquad to fall in.

Quickly return tothe supply hut andhead inside. Collectand equip the PPSh-41SMG, then instructeach team member topick up an M6 bayonetknife. Order Junior tograb the SVDDragunov sniper rifle,then distribute theDegtyarev RPD LMGand the MAT-49 to Hoss and Doc.

Return to thecontainment area andgo through the gap inthe fence to the south.Take a left and headaround the corner.Pocket the medicalfield dressings fromthe crates to the rightand share them evenlybetween your squad.

Finally, go through the gates to the east to exit thePOW camp.

possible.

Get the Jeep inmotion and movedown the track to thenorth. You have a fewmoments to famil-iarize yourself with thecontrols, so practicedriving and using themachine gun at thesame time. During thissection, stick to themain road and use thegun to mow down any VC troops who approach.

After the road takesits first turn to thesouth, it bends east.Stop the car, switch toJunior, and get out.Equip the sniper rifleand slowly movethrough the bushes onthe right side of thepath, heading east.

Enter aim modeand eliminate themachine gunnerpositioned up on thehill to the northeast.Once he's toast, climbback in the Jeep andcontinue your journey.Deal with the VCpresence, follow thenext bend to thesouth, andimmediately disembark. Wipe out any enemies who appear,then slowly work your way along the road.

There are six minesin the path ahead. Thefirst cluster of three isalmost directly ahead;the next cluster lies alittle farther on.Disarm them all andreturn to the Jeep tocontinue your journeyto the south.

A short distance on,the left side of theroute opens,overlooking the junglebelow. As the roadswings to the west,stop the Jeep and getout. Three more minesawait disarming alongthe road ahead.

When the path isclear, return to theJeep and descend theincline ahead. Followthe slope as it bendsnorth, then winds tothe south again. As itlevels out, listen foryour squad membersto alert you to twomore mines in theroad. Disarm them,return to the vehicle, and proceed forward.

While controlling the Jeep, you can assign a position

for each squad member at anytime. One teammate is

always driver while another operates the mounted

machine gun. The remaining squad members occupy the

passenger seats to the left and right of the vehicle. Selecting

either driver or gunner enables you to steer and shoot simul-

taneously. Switching to a passenger brings the vehicle to a

halt but permits more accurate aiming from the sides.

The machine gun operator is particularly exposed

while the vehicle is in motion, and is likely to take the

most damage. When the gunner's health drops to the

critical level, assign him to the passenger seat until his

wounds can be tended to.

The track turns tothe southeast for atime, then bendssharply to thesouthwest. Again,there are two minesin the road ahead.Disable them bothand continue to theVC compound.

Jump out of theJeep, duck behind thenorth-facing wall ofthe building to thewest, and order yoursquad to hold position.This keeps them at asafe distance whileyou attempt the nextoperation.

Close in on the twotrucks to the east andequip a stick grenade.Toss one underneatheach vehicle todestroy it, keepingclear of the resultingexplosion.

The final truck liesbehind the hut to thewest. Obliterate it asbefore to completethe bonus objective.

Enter the hut usingthe door at the end ofthe walkway runningalong the south-facingwall. Snatch themedical field dressingsto the north, thenmove inside the roomto the west. Grab theDegtyarev RPD LMGand MAT-49 ammobefore proceeding.

Leave the building,order your squad tofall in, and travel downthe pathway leadingsouth directly ahead.

Follow the patheast and stopimmediately as itturns south again.Order your squad tohold position, switchto Junior, and equipthe sniper rifle. Enteraim mode andeliminate the VCtroops manning thegun turrets on thehillside to the south and southwest.

New Bonus Objective : Logistics

The VC have several trucks from their logistics

network in this area. Destroy the trucks to hinder

their supply operation.

Troops emerge fromthe gaps in the treesto the southeast andsouthwest. Stationyour squad behind therocks to the center ofthe bank and usethem as cover.

Order Hoss andJunior to shield yourSAS allies andconcentrate your ownfire on the enemyambush. Once all theVC forces are dead,the mission iscomplete.

Your gunfire may attract other VC troops in the area,

including an on-foot RPG. Finish off the new threat

before continuing with the mission. Once the foe is

quashed, locate the RPG-7v rocket launcher dropped by the

outflank the VC forces located west of the tunnels.

They will link up with you after you have completed

your mission. Proceed north-east through the

swamp and find a way into the tunnel system.

Your ammo supplies are likely to be running low at

the start of this mission. Conserve ammunition where

possible and scavenge enemy bodies for useful items

until you get a chance to restock in the tunnels later.

Approach the largetree directly aheadand duck inside thecave situated in therock wall to the left.Restock your squad'sammo supplies,distribute any medicalfield dressings amongteam members, andleave the tunnel.

Follow the path ofthe water as it scootsto the east, taking aleft onto the northernbank as the routesplits at the treeahead.

Back on dry land,sneak along the path,using the rocks ascover. As it bendssouth, puncture themachine gunner'sskull on the bankdirectly ahead, usingthe sniper rifle.

Resume yourtravels and decimatethe enemy troopswho appear at thewater's edge. Proceedthrough the swamp,sticking close to theleft-hand wall.

As you round thecorner to the east,dispose of theoncoming Viet Congand exterminate themachine gunnerstationed up on thebank ahead.

Cautiously followthe route around tothe north and takecare of the VC RPGlauncher positionedup in the watchtower,as it comes into view,before resuming yourtravels.

Pass by thewatchtower, stillstaying close to theleft-hand wall fortemporary cover. Asthe water winds northagain, yet anothermachine gunner hidesin the bushes on thebank ahead. Finish himoff with the sniper rifle.

Clamber out ontodry land as the routebends west, thenjump back into theswamp a little fartheron. Shuffle over to thewall on the right andcarefully edge aroundthe corner untilreaching the bouldersahead. Use them ascover and pick off theguards patrolling thebridge above.

Order your squad tohold position, thenmove under thebridge, traveling north.Slowly sneak aroundthe bend to the left,keeping close to therock face. A guard inthe watchtowerwields an RPGlauncher, so bring himswiftly to the ground.

Duck into the cave to the west,underneath thewatchtower, foranother bumper cropof ammo supplies.Swipe the rocketlaunchers, then dividethe remaining goodsamong your squadmates before movingback into the open.

Follow the riveralong the northeast.After a sharp bend tothe northwest, thewater flows backaround to thenortheast. Shield yoursquad using the rocksto the left and quicklypop a cap in themachine gunnerpositioned on thebank ahead.

The tank situatedaround the corner tothe left packs a heftypunch. Order yourteam to hold positionbefore continuing. Stillas Junior, whip out theRPG-7v rocketlauncher and slowlywork around thecorner to the north.Carefully peek aroundthe rocks to get a better view without exposing yourself.

The tank's gunturret turns to faceyour position if you'respotted. Wait for it toswing back and facethe front beforeattempting to take iton. Once the threatfrom its turret isminimal, let rip with arocket and wavegoodbye to itsarmored carcass.

Next, sneak aroundthe doorway to theleft and eliminate theguard along thepassage to the east.Quickly turn aroundand tiptoe along thepassage heading west.Terminate the VCguard as he movesinto view, beforeyou're detected.

Locate the armory. There are likely to be a

number of stolen US weapons within the armory

that can be used to destroy the key locations of

the tunnel system.

Switch to Ragmanand instruct your teamto fall in. Continuealong the corridor tothe west, passingbeneath both woodenbridges, and mowdown the large numberof VC troops whooccupy the tunnels.

As the passageturns northeast, orderyour squad to holdposition and switch toJunior. Carefully peekaround the corner andpick off a machinegunner positionedahead, using thesniper rifle.

Continue east alongthe end of thepassage, then turnright into the tunnelthat lies south.

Enter aim mode andslowly move forward.As soon as the VCmachine gunner at thefar end of the corridorcomes into view, pickhim off before hespots you.

Switch to Ragman,order your men to fallin, and take a sharpright as the slopingpassageway levels out.At the fork ahead,follow the north-western path andcross over the woodenbridge. At the otherend, enter the roomdirectly to the west.

Inside, crouch downin the northwesterncorner of the roomwith your back to thewall. This provides agood view of thedoorways to the southand east. As a flood ofVC troops spillsthrough, terminatethem swiftly.

Once the onslaughthas receded, enter thearmory through thedoor to the south.Share the weaponsand ammo supplieswith your teammates,then grab the M118C4 demolition chargesfrom the table againstthe western wall.

Move over to thesoutheastern corner ofthe table in the centerof the room andpocket the VC intel.Before continuing withthe mission, distributeyour supply of medicalfield dressings evenlybetween squadmembers to ensurethey can patchthemselves up in the event of injury.

Re-enter the roomdirectly north andplace a C4 chargeagainst the generatoron the western wall.

Return to thearmory and head east,through the door, untilyou reach the bridgeto the left at the endof the passage. Crossover and take a rightupon reaching the forkin the path.

At the gun turret,take a right into thenext room, then a leftinto the commandbunker. Place anotherC4 charge against thepile of crates alongthe western wall, thenpocket the VC intelfrom the table in thenorthwest corner ofthe room.

Go through theright-hand doorway onthe eastern wall andimmediately take aright. Pick up the VietCong intel from thedesk to the left in thenext room. Leave thisarea and take anotherright, moving east intothe next room.

Take the medicalfield dressings to theleft, then place a C4charge in the north-eastern corner of the room.

Pass back into thecommand bunker tothe west and gothrough the doorwaydue north. Headnorthwest and travelnorth at the fork intothe main corridor.

main re-supply point for the whole province. If both

storeroom areas are destroyed, then the local Viet

Toss a grenade over the fence to alert them to yourpresence, then run back west, join your team, and takecover behind the debris in the road.

When the actiondies down, assumecontrol of Junior andrun east along theroad to the junction.Without pausing,move northeastacross the road andenter the yard aheadthrough the gap in thefence. Immediatelyduck behind thebuilding's south-facing wall.

The T-34 tankstationed along theroad to the northseeks out yourposition, but the wallprotects you from itsmissile attack. Wait forthe blast and quicklyrun back across theroad, travelingdiagonally to thenortheast, and duck

into the next yard ahead. Dash down the alley before thetank lets rip again.

Immediately faceeast and take downthe VC troopsstationed on therooftop ahead.

When they're nomore, return to themain road again andquickly cross over intothe yard duenortheast.

Take a left and divebehind the building'ssouth-facing wall toavoid the next tankblast. When it's safe,equip the RPG-7vrocket launcher,quickly move out frombehind the wall, andfire a rocket towardthe tank at the end ofthe street to thenorthwest.

Immediately takecover again, wait forthe next blast, then letrip with anotherrocket in the directionof the tank. Repeatuntil it's a goner.

Order your squad tofall in and switch toRagman. Headnorthwest and enterthe final yardopposite. Move insidethe building via thedoor on the northernwall and travel southinto the second room.Investigate the south-western corner andraid the supply of weapons and ammo.

Leave the buildingto the north, make aright, and travelnortheast across theroad. At the northeastcorner of the area,wander down the alleyto the north.

Follow it round tothe east andimmediately take thepassage north at thejunction. Follow itwest and around tothe north, passingthrough the doorwaydirectly ahead.

Take a right andneutralize the nearbyVC. Approach the exitat to the left at theend of the corner andpause until the airstrike subsides.

Outside, proceedwest and eliminatethe enemies patrollingthe road. At thejunction, head over tothe western wall andpocket the medicalfield dressing in thecrater, keeping an eyeout for Viet Congapproaching from thenorth and south.

Turn around andmove back east alongthe main road.Approach the USMCmen stationed at thefar end of the area.Your allies deal withthe majority ofperipheral VC attackswhile you travel, soconcentrate your fireon any immediatethreat. Reach the U.S.soldiers to receive your next orders.

To proceed with the mission, all NVA soldiers in the areamust be defeated. There are a lot to get through, so takecover and patiently pick them off.

When the gunfiresubsides, talk to theU.S. solider stationedto the east to discoverthe whereabouts ofyour unit.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE :HUEY

Continue northand immediately take a left along thenext passageway.Raid the stash of U.S.weapons in the area,trading your currentmunitions for theirAmerican equivalent.Equip Ragman withthe 12-gaugeshotgun, CAR-15SMG, and grenades;

equip Junior with the M40A1 sniper rifle. Next, kit outHoss with the M79 grenade launcher and give Doc theDegtyarev RPD LMG. Finally, collect and distribute anymedical field dressings.

The alleyways to

the north are less

populated by enemy

troops. Move inside

and find a quiet corner to

position your squad. The

NVA slowly filters into

the area as they locate

your position, but the

narrow passages mean you rarely engage more than one

or two enemies at a time. This makes dealing with the VC

threat a lot less traumatic.

The helipad is somewhere to the south-east. To

get there you have to travel through an area

defended by enemy main battle tanks. Use the

M48 Patton tank to break though to the helipad.

Assemble the squad there and hitch a ride across

the river to the Citadel.

Next, proceed westand join the roadagain. Follow it northtoward the M48Patton tank andclamber into thevehicle.

Steer the tank eastand take down the VCtroops littering thestreet as you roundthe corner to thenorth.

Follow the road as it bends south, then east. From here,take a sharp turn to the south again, then steer right, alongthe road heading west.

Stop and switch toJunior, manning the90mm rifled cannon.Quickly swing theturret to thesouthwest and takedown the enemy withthe RPG launcherstationed in the alleyalong the southernside of the road. TheM48 is particularlysusceptible to RPG fire, so keep an eye out for them onyour travels.

After his demise,immediately fire onthe tank stationedalong the road to thewest until it explodes.

Continue along thealley and turn south.At the junction, swingthe turret around tothe southwest andneutralize the RPGlauncher positionedon top of the building.

Next, swiftlydemolish the tanksituated to the west.Continue along to theeast and take a rightalong the next road,traveling south. Keepan eye out for RPGlaunchers on the roofto the east, as youturn, and over the wallto the left. Deal withthem immediately.

As with all

armored vehicles in

the game, the M48

Patton tank is partic-

ularly vulnerable to attack

from the rear and sides.

When engaging enemies,

confront them head-on to

minimize potential

damage to the vehicle.

Hue. Destroying these vehicles will help to break

the back of the NVA resistance.

Drive the tankonward to the south,watching out for anenemy with the RPGlauncher whoemerges to the rear ofyour vehicle. Takeanother left at thenext junction andobliterate the finalenemy tank as itcomes into view.

Disembark andorder your squad tofall in. Switch toRagman and headdown the road to thewest, moving awayfrom the tank'ssmoldering remains.At the next junction,take a right and enterthe building via thedoorway immediatelyto the east.

Inside, kill the twoVC radiomen and grabthe VC intel from thetable in the northwestcorner of the room.Finally, snatch themedical field dressingsand instruct Doc totake the PPSh-41 SMGfrom the cratesnearby.

Crouch down andorder your squad tohold fire. Slowly moveout of the building andcautiously to thesouth. As youapproach the finalbuilding to the left,enter aim mode andquickly take out theRPG launcherstationed above.

Instruct your teamto fire at will andfollow the road roundto the east. Eliminatethe lone VC in theroad ahead, theneliminate the smallgroup of enemytroops that emergefrom the south.

Move close to thewall on the southernside of the road andorder your squad tohold position. Switchto Junior and equipthe RPG-7v rocketlauncher. Quicklyscoot forward andtake cover behind therubble at the entranceto the southern alley.Fire a rocket at the enemy bunker to the south.

When the coast isclear, switch back toRagman. Instruct yoursquad to fall in, rundown the alley andturn west. Eliminatethe VC ahead then talkto the U.S. soldierstationed in front ofthe helipad. Gatheryour squad at the redsmoke to completethe mission.

As the Huey entersthe first clearing,scope out the threemissile batteriesbelow.

Your ride continuesto circle the area untilall three targets havebeen destroyed. Thisprovides plenty ofopportunity to takeout the three HAWKbattery radar trailersmounted on rockledges to the east andnorthwest. The third islocated on the groundto the southwest.Switch to Doc immediately on entering the clearing. Enteraim mode and fire at the first radar trailer, to the east, as theHuey passes by.

The chopper swingsaround slowly. Staywith Doc and rain yourfire on the trailer as itcomes into view tothe northwest. Switchto Ragman at the rearto finish it off.

To eliminate thefinal HAWK, takecontrol of Doc oncemore and aim towardthe ground. As theHuey turns to thesouthwest, keep alook out for the fencerunning along the roadbelow. The third radartrailer is located to theright of the small hutnearby.

Switch to Junior orHoss on the inside ofthe flight path andtake out the threesurface-to-air missilelaunchers in the centerof the clearing. Onceall are destroyed, theHuey moves on to thenext area.

Neutralizing

targets is much

easier when using

aim mode. However,

the meandering path of

the Huey makes it easy to

lose your bearings in the

environment. To get a

better view of your

position, exit aim mode to reposition the game camera

behind the Huey.

New Bonus Objective : SAM RadarTake out the captured HAWK battery Radar trailers

to deny their use to the NVA.

An anti-aircraft gun sits in the center of the clearing,

providing an additional threat to your helicopter. If it is

not dealt with quickly, its fire can cause massive damage

to your chopper. Whenever a squad member gets it in his

sights, fire a few bullets its way.

New Bonus Objective : ConvoyDestroy the NVA supply convoy that is carrying

equipment and supplies to reinforce in this area.

As the helicoptermoves along thecanyon, the enemyconvoy begins itsjourney below. Takecontrol of Doc andobliterate the Jeep atthe head of theconvoy to bring it toa standstill, avoidingthe anti-aircraft gun ahead.

Next, concentrateyour fire on the threetrucks bringing up therear. As the convoypasses out of Doc'sline of sight, jump toHoss, then Junior, asnecessary to finish theconvoy off. The rest ofthe squad deals withthe artillery below.

In the next clearing,there are three moresurface-to-air missilelaunchers to destroy.As before, thehelicopter circles untilthey're all demolished.

This time, to reducethe threat of missileattack, decimate oneor two of the primarytargets beforeattempting to bringdown the single radartrailer in the area.Once the bonus targethas been neutralized,finish off theremaining missilelaunchers.

Once all threesurface-to-air missilelaunchers aredisabled, the Hueycontinues its journeyto the west, along thenext gully.

Switch to Doc asthe next area comesinto view. Immediatelydestroy the HAWKradar to the northeast.

As the Huey reaches the northern half of the

clearing, Junior and Hoss are best placed to deal with

the HAWK radar. Use Doc and Ragman as the flight

moves to the south.

The number of ground troops and enemy vehicles is

much greater than before. Pay particular attention to

anti-aircraft gun placements and machine gunners as

the chopper circles the area. When any threat is in range,

destroy it swiftly.

The Huey fliescounterclockwisearound the large rockin the center of theclearing. Stay with Docand eliminate theadditional two radartrailers situated on theouter edge of theroute to the west andsouthwest.

As the path swingssouth, quickly takecontrol of Junior orHoss on the inside ofthe Huey. Scan theground and demolishthe four missilelaunchers stationedaround the central rockto the northeast, south,southwest, and west.

When all targetshave been decommis-sioned, the helicoptermoves along the nextravine, populated by alarge number of VCtroops. The anti-aircraft guns and RPGlaunchers pose thebiggest threat here;concentrate all fire onthese first.

In the final clearing,the three bonus radartrailers are all locatedat ground level to thenortheast, southwest,and northwest.

Doc and Ragmanare best equipped todestroy the bonustargets on the outerperimeter, while Hossand Junior are moresuited to dealing withthe surface-to-airmissiles in the centerof the clearing.

Neutralize alltargets and the Hueybegins its final trekalong the canyontowards the LZ. As itpasses over the VCbase, an RPG launcherbrings the journey toan end and themission is complete.

OverviewAs the Huey touches down in the middle of enemy territory, an NVA tank makes light work of your ride

home. Your squad's last remaining assignment is to infiltrate the nearby Citadel, the major NVA center of

operations in Hue. Penetrate the fortress and eliminate the local NVA regiment's general—engineering his

downfall may be the only way to victory….

As the mission begins,weapons and ammoare resupplied.Immediately orderyour squad to fall inand quickly dash tothe south before theNVA tank has chanceto launch its assault.

Jump inside thearmored vehicle on arrival andimmediately reverse itto go as far back aspossible. This shieldsthe vehicle from thetank's offensive.

Progress in thearmored vehicle istricky from the start,because of the closeproximity of the NVAtank. One blast fromthe enemy artillerycan be lethal. The tanklocks onto yourvehicle's position assoon as you emergefrom behind the hut tothe right, so proceed with extreme caution.

Switch to the squadmember controllingthe recoilless rifle andslowly inch forward,keeping close to thehut for cover. Enteraim mode and swingyour sights to thenortheast. As soon asthe NVA tank comesinto view, fire in itsdirection.

Once the tank isdestroyed, hop out ofthe armored vehicleand loot the villagefor weapons andsupplies. Be sure toequip Junior with thetwo TPG-7v rocketlaunchers from thehuts to the northwestand northeast of thedowned Huey.

While you control the armored vehicle, each squad

member occupies one of four positions. Two teammates

sit in the passenger and driver seats; the other two

operate the .30-cal. machine gun and 106mm recoilless

rifle. The latter packs a devastating punch but has limited

ammunition. Use it to neutralize enemy tanks and in densely

packed NVA areas. Use the 106mm machine gun for engaging

smaller enemy groups. However, the operator is exposed

during combat so pay close attention to his health levels.

New Bonus Objective : NVA ArmorThe loss of the NVA tanks guarding this complex will

weaken their armored formations in this area of

operations. Destroy all the NVA tanks you encounter.

B1 Move the armored vehicle forward enough to reveal

the NVA tank's position but no farther. If you do it

correctly, your missiles reach the tank while the building

shields you from return fire.

Return to thearmored vehicle andorder your squad tofall in. Steer out ofthe village compound,taking the road eastof the obliteratedNVA tank.

Follow the route tothe south and stickwith the track as itwinds through thejungle. An RPGlauncher lies in waitas the road bends tothe west. Immediatelyswitch to the .30-cal.machine gun and takehim out. Next,concentrate your fireon the remaining NVA troops who spill from the sidelines.

Stay with the pathas it moves into thederelict town on theedge of the Citadel.Stay alert—anenormous number ofenemy soldiersoccupy this area. Theycause serious damageto your transportation,so proceed with haste.

Instead ofconfronting the NVAforces, quickly driveeast and take a right,moving south alongthe street. Stop justahead of the archwayon the left andimmediately switch tothe recoilless rifle.Enter aim mode anddecimate the tankoutside the citadel entrance beyond the archway.

When the pathahead is safe, driveunder the archwayand over the bridge.Spin your vehiclearound and reversetoward the mainentrance. The armoredvehicle acts as ashield between yoursquad and the VCgunfire as youdisembark, providing excellent cover.

Quickly order yourteam to fall in anddive through theentrance to the north,left of the mainCitadel gates.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE : NVA COMMAND

Inside, take control ofJunior and equip thesniper rifle. Follow thecorridor east, thensouth as it turns.

The General for the 4th NVA Regiment is using the

Citadel as his Command Post. If the General and

his staff are taken out of the equation, the chain

of command for the North Vietnamese Army in

Hue will break down, making US victory certain.

The corridor ends tothe south and leadsoutdoors. Order yoursquad to hold positionbefore passing intothe open. Cautiouslymove forward andimmediately face east.Neutralize themachine gunnerssituated at the far endof the courtyard, usingthe sniper rifle.

When they're down,order your team to fallin and move eastacross the courtyard.About-face on hearingthe signal for snipersand terminate the NVAstationed on thebalcony above.

Resume yourjourney east and passthrough the doorwayto the right at the endof the courtyard.

Descend thestaircase ahead andenter the radio roombelow. Quickly dealwith the two NVAradiomen and collectthe medical fielddressing from the wallto the east.

Before exiting,destroy all the radioequipment on thetables to the southand west to disableVC communicationsin the area.

Backtrack up thestairs and out into thecourtyard, killing anyNVA who haveappeared. Enter thebuilding to the northvia the doorwayimmediately ahead.

New Bonus Objective : NVA IntelThis location will contain a significant number of

sensitive documents. Any you can recover will be

invaluable to US Army Intelligence.

New Bonus Objective : CommunicationsThe Citadel contains an important NVA communi-

cations center. By finding and destroying this site

you will inflict a crippling blow to the infrastructure

of the NVA units operating in this area.

Climb the steps tothe left and follow thecorridor around to theright. Instead ofpassing through thedoorway ahead, orderyour squad to holdposition.

Switch to Junior andmove against theright-hand wall. Equipthe sniper rifle, enteraim mode andcautiously edgeforward. Peer aroundthe doorway andeliminate the machinegunner to thenorthwest as hecomes into view.

Quickly swing your sights to the northeast and bring downthe enemies situated on the rooftop.

When the coast isclear, resume controlof Ragman and orderyour team to fall in.Head outside and takea left. Travel along thecourtyard and enterthe building to thesouth via the nextdoorway on the left.

Inside, climb thestairs on the right andneutralize the guardsalong the corridor atthe top. Continuealong into the roomand grab the NVA Intelfrom the table againstthe eastern wall.

Instruct Junior topocket the RPG-7vrocket launcher, thenreturn to the lowerlevel and move backoutside. Terminate anyNVA threat in thecourtyard and enterthe doorway directlyopposite, to the north.

Take a right andcontinue along thecorridor as it movesnorth. Nip inside thefirst room to the leftand grab the NVA Intelfrom the chair underthe westernmost sideof the table.

Leave the room andturn left, entering thearea at the end of thecorridor. Pick up thenext piece of NVAIntel and medical fielddressing from thetable to the east andorder Junior to swipethe RPG-7v.

Head south, travelingback outside. Stem theflow of NVA troops inthe courtyard andmove into the alleybetween the buildingsto the southwest.Continue along thepassage and enter thebuilding through thedoor to the right.

Follow the corridoraround to the eastand enter the roomon the right, at the farend. Grab the NVAIntel from the tableand exit the buildingvia the doorway tothe north.

Travel along thealley to the north andtake a right at theend, eliminating anyapproaching NVAtroops. Follow it duenorth and pause at theentrance to thecourtyard.

Switch to Junior andmove against the left-hand wall. Cautiouslyedge forward and peeraround the corner.Swiftly eradicate thetwo machine gunnerson the platform to thenorthwest.

Take control ofRagman again. Orderyour squad to fall inand travel to theeastern end of thecourtyard.

Climb the steps to the right andimmediately swing toface west. Take downthe RPG launcherstationed on therooftop opposite,before he can returnfire. Finally, neutralizethe machine gunner ashe appears and resumeyour journey south.

Take a left and passthrough the doorwayahead. Come to a haltimmediately andinstruct your squad tohold their position.Switch to Junior andequip the RPG-7v. Stayclose to the southernwall and sneakforward.

As the wall to theright comes to an end,stop and peek aroundthe corner. The finalNVA tank lies directlyto the south. Enter aimmode and quickly firea rocket towards it.Duck back behind thewall before it locatesyour position. Whensafe, send anotherrocket its way and repeat until the tank is obliterated.

Resume control ofRagman and orderyour team to fall in.Continue east andfollow the path itmoves to the south,west, then south again.

Head south andquickly turn rightthrough the hole inthe wall. From here,pass into the alley tothe northwest,between the buildings.

Follow the routearound to the westand enter the buildingto the south. Inside,take a left into thenext room andapproach the table inthe northwest corner.Collect the NVA Inteland medical fielddressing beforeproceeding.

Turn around andpocket the final pieceof NVA Intel from thechair along the eastside of the table in thecenter of the room.

Return to theentrance, but remainin the building. About-face and climb thestaircase immediatelyahead to the left.Midway up, orderyour squad to holdfire and equip a fraggrenade. Quickly leaparound the cornerand throw a grenade

into the command room to the north. Dive back behind thewall to avoid heavy gunfire from its occupants.

When the smokeclears, order yourteam to fall in andequip the CAR-15SMG. Storm into theroom and polish offthe remaining NVAmembers.

Next, leave thebuilding and take aleft, traveling backround into thecourtyard. Take downthe enemy soldiersswarming the area tocomplete the mission,and the game.

A massive enemy ambush strikes as your squad

moves into the next area. Move swiftly to avoid the

gunfire from all sides. Only engage enemies who pose an

immediate threat. It's much easier to deal with the NVA

troops from the safety of a building interior, as this limits the

directions enemies can approach from and gives you the

upper hand.
