Newsletter No. 40 Tuesday December 13th, 2016
Our School Vision To develop outstanding citizens and life long learners who believe that effort and persistence leads to success.
Through our core values of Respect, Responsibility, Empathy, Innovation and Excellence we strive to make a
difference in our community and environment.
Page 3 BRENT’S BANTER
Welcome to my final Banter for the year 2016. I will reflect on some of
the events and activities of the year and also celebrate the wonderful con-
tribution our graduating students have made to our school and wish them the best for the future.
Clifton Springs has Got Talent Showcase Reboot this Thursday!
After last weeks wild winds and the delay of our Showcase, we look forward to this Thursday’s event as the
weather promises to be a little more forgiving. We are encouraging families to join us for a picnic dinner
from 5.30pm and we will have sausages and drinks for sale. B.Y.O. chair or rug to sit on. If students could
be here by 5:50pm ready for the talent showcase to start at 6pm, it would be greatly appreciated.
Each group of children will perform in their year levels and our individuals and groups will perform in
between, giving us the opportunity to see everyone on stage and in action. The event will be held in the
area in front of the 1/2 learning area where we have been holding assemblies. People are welcome to sit
on the astro turf area on a rug if they wish or bring their own seating and sit from the concrete and grass
beyond.
Building Works
Our building works are continuing and with 6 classrooms, our staff room, our art room, ½ of the admin
area and foyer along with a number of offices and other spaces out of action this week, we are doing our
best in difficult conditions but will ask students and families to continue to be patient.
Year 6 Graduation
This Monday saw our Year 6 students celebrated as they held their Graduation Ceremony in our
gymnasium. This year the students all presented a short speech about their time and experiences at
Clifton Springs Primary School and celebrated their favourite moments, people and key achievements.
This group were in Year prep the year I started, so have always been quite a special group to me and I
have really enjoyed seeing them grow and develop as students and individuals over this time.
During their time at this school we have seen a huge change in our approach and one of our key missions
has been to develop a genuinely student centred school. Thankfully, this has been reflected in the
comments and feedback from our students who have felt welcome, supported encouraged and
empowered, giving them the confidence to enhance our school and build on the good work of those before
them.
Some of the key legacies this group will leave behind for others will include; the upgraded House system
and our House Mascots, the fully functioning Sports Academy and leadership programs and the path they
have blazed in developing student voice.
Our students graduate with much knowledge and many different talents, skills and abilities but one thing
they also carry with them is a ‘can do’ attitude and the confidence that they can make a difference.
Many thanks to our guest speaker and ex school captain Tulley Rogers, who gave our students insights
into what to look forward to in Secondary School and a few tips on how to successfully navigate this path.
Former Clifton Springs students currently occupy leadership roles and positions across a number of
schools in the Government, Independent and Catholic systems and we see this next group of graduates
continuing to innovate, engage and excel at their future schools.
Our PFG were on hand as always to give our graduating students their Graduation Bears and our students
enjoyed the opportunity to have their classmates and the staff sign these mementos of their time at CSPS.
Many thanks to Mrs Garland, the senior team and our wider staff past and present, for attending this
event and celebrating the success of our students. Thanks also to Jeff our OSHC coordinator who
supervised our primary aged younger siblings so families could attend.
Our senior team have been tasked to further explore student voice on the 2017 graduation so I look
forward to hearing the students ideas for the future.
Farwell to Staff
The graduation and departure of a number of our funded students leads to the departure of a number of
our Integration Aides as the funding for their positions end. I would like to take this opportunity to thank
Penny Morris, Kerry Coghlan, Leanne Grace, Mandy Mason and Tracey Lamprecht for the contributions
they have made to our students and our school. Penny and Kerry in particular, have had a lengthy
association with our school and have assisted many students throughout their time here. They will all be
finishing at the end of the school year but we may see them working in other schools in the near future
and wish them all the very best in their future endeavours. .
Unfortunately, Mrs Tolley will also be departing as she takes up a position at Bellarine Secondary College
(BSC) next year in their PE Department. Mrs Tolley will be able to continue her work with our students as
they transition to BSC next year. We wish Mrs Tolley all the very best in her new role. Principal’s report continued over the page……….
Assembly –say ‘Goodbye’ to
our Year 6 students
Principal’s report continued……...
Yesterday’s Curriculum Day
Yesterdays Curriculum Day gave our staff the opportunity to further our work on developing evidence
base practice. I had the opportunity to lead a discussion around Developing a CSPS ‘Learning Cycle’ with
our staff to gain clarity for individuals and teams around how our new process fit together to best sup-
port student learning.
This was followed by Mr McCredden looking at our 2017 planning including our behaviour matrix along
with timetables, meeting schedule and our new action teams.
Following on from this our team leaders led a session on the ‘handover’ of information from teacher to
teacher to assist in transition through the school and then looked into our student data in their teams.
Finally our 2017 teams got together to plan for 2017. We were also joined by one of our new teachers
for 2017 Caitlin Roberts who will be teaching science.
Student Reports
This Friday, student reports will be sent home with students. We encourage you to take some time over
the weekend to sit down and go through the reports with your children, celebrate their achievements,
acknowledge their growth and look at their areas for future growth and development. If you have any
questions about the reports, I encourage you to write these down and find a time early next year to
discuss these with your child’s teacher or raise them in your 3-way conferences at the beginning of the
year.
School Council Meeting
Last weeks School Council meeting was a great way to wrap up the year and it is certainly wonderful to
work with a group of staff and parents such as ours, who are so focused on making our school the best it
can be. I thank our School Council for their continued commitment to our school and look forward to
2017. Following on from our School Council I would like to thank another couple of our volunteer parent
groups including:
Parents and Friends Group
Our P&FG perform a wonderful role in our school each year supporting events such as discos, Mothers
and Fathers Day stalls and the Movie Night, raising funds and bringing joy and excitement to our
students and community. I look forward to joining them at their annual celebratory dinner and thank
them so much for the work that they do.
Much as I don’t like to single out the contributions made by our parents and volunteers I did want to
make special mention of the contributions made by Jo Aspland, who over a great many years at CSPS,
has made an unrelenting and hugely positive contribution to our PFG, our fundraising through events
like our festivals, and through the support advice and technical skills in developing our wide range of
graphics arts tasks she has completed. Jo you are a wonder and from the students and staff at Clifton
Springs Primary School I would like to very much thank you from the bottom of our hearts and yes we are
“missing you already”.
Canteen Committee
I would also like to extend a huge thank you to our small but dedicated group of canteen volunteers led
by Kellie Broomhall, who each week have continued to provide lunch orders and over the counter sales
for our students. The tasty treats and delectable delights have been very much appreciated by the
students and staff alike and we look forward to it returning in 2017. Parent helpers afternoon tea
This Thursday from 2.45-3.30pm we will be hosting our parent helpers afternoon tea in the dining room
and we would love to see our parent helpers in attendance if at all possible. The contributions you make
each week in the wide and varied ways that you do are much appreciated and we would love to see you
there if you are able to make it.
Clifton Springs Billy Cart Derby
Last week’s Billy Cart Derby was a wonderful event hosted by the senior team as a culminating event for
their Billy Cart Project. This event was made all the more exciting by seeing the other classes cheering
on their teams and willing them to victory. Congratulations to the Jamaican Bobsled Team who won the
event overall and the Flaming Lamas who won the best dressed team award. The day however is not all
about wining, it was about teamwork, problem solving, encouragement and of course engaging learning.
Seeing the teams working together to problem solve, strategise and encourage each other, was great to
see. Many thanks to the large number of parents who were able to attend and support our teams on the
day.

celebrate their time together as a class in 2016. Your child will have a note from their class.
Final Assembly and early finish at for end of the year.
Assembly this Friday will give us the opportunity to say good-bye to our Year 6 students and celebrate
with them as they leave assembly. As always, we have a number of awards to present and we look
forward to seeing those of you who are able to attend to help celebrate our final assembly for the year.
We will be having a final assembly next Tuesday from 2:00 and the school day will finish at 2:30pm.
Finally I would like to sign off for the year 2016, which has been an extremely challenging yet rewarding
year, and one which once again appears to have gone very quickly. We do of course look forward to
starting 2017 in our newly renovated spaces and hope to get down to the business of learning and
teaching without delay. I wish everyone a safe and restful holiday and look forward to seeing everyone
next year.

Head lice is spread only through head to head contact.
Lice DO NOT have wings, they CANNOT jump or fly. They can only crawl. Not all lice will cause an itch so you need to check your child’s head REGULARLY!
Notify the Office if your child has head lice. An anonymous note will be sent home to
your child’s grade stating that a case of head lice has been found and all children’s
hair should be checked.
If lice are found in your child’s hair, they will need to be collected from school to be
treated.
TO CHECK HAIR CAREFULLY TAKES TIME!
To find lice, cover dry hair with any conditioner. This stuns lice and makes them easier to
find.
Comb small sections of the hair with a fine (nit) comb. Wipe the conditioner from the
comb onto tissue and look for lice and eggs. Repeat the combing for every part of the
head at least 4 to 5 times. If lice or eggs are found, the hair should be treated. If using conditioner to remove lice, the hair needs to be conditioned and combed until
there have been no live lice found for 10 days.
NO TREATMENT KILLS ALL OF THE EGGS so treatment MUST involve 2 applications 7
days apart. CONTINUAL CHECKING reduces the likelihood of getting head lice.
THANK YOU ON BEHALF OF THE PARENTS & FRIENDS GROUP On behalf of the school community, we would like to sincerely thank all the volunteers who
assisted with Parent and Friends Group initiatives this year. Parents and Friends group strive
to:
create opportunities and memories for children
support student learning and
build and nurture a sense of community between our families
The committee consists of volunteers who reach out and are assisted by parents in the wider
school community. Together they provide experiences and raise funds for your children.
Events that P&FG run include; the Cheers and Tears morning and the Mothers and Fathers Day
stalls. They also assist with the Family BBQ, Election day BBQ and Graduation night.
Fund-raising events include the Family Movie Night, sale of Entertainment Books and school
discos.
This year we have donated thousands of dollars towards school resources including;
a defibrillator machine,
a class set of ukuleles for the music program,
weekly fruit supplies for after school active care program,
a mobile trolley for the Science program,
bookshelves for the senior classrooms,
class sets of mini-whiteboards for the prep classes,
a spinning bookshelf for the library,
passive play toys for the integration team,
wooden alphabets for the reading recovery program
graduation bears for the Grade 6 students.
Please give yourselves a pat on the back if you have contributed in any way to the
school this year.
Whether it is as a committee member or sending your child to the disco or looking
after things at home to enable your partner to volunteer, we need you and we
appreciate you!
