-No School: Monday, Jan. 20th for Martin Luther King Jr. Day -School Attendance: Please be mindful of your student's school attendance. Continuous school attendance is a key to student success. If your child develops habitual absences, it will affect academic performance dramatically. Family trips and vacations are unexcused absences. If you have any questions about school attendance, please contact DAS school counselor Ms. Robin Chaloune at [email protected] -Kindergarten Winter Session of NWEA: Wednesday Jan. 22nd, Thursday Jan. 23rd, Monday Jan. 27th and Wednesday Jan. 29th our Kindergarten students will be taking the standardized NWEA computer tests that assesses their reading and math skills. It is very important that students get plenty of sleep and eat a hearty breakfast to perform their very best! If you have any questions regarding these tests please contact your classroom teacher. -100th Day: Our 100th day of school will be Tuesday, Jan. 28th. Not only will 100th day be filled with fun activities revolving around the number 100, but students may dress-up as if they are 100 years old! We can’t wait to see all these ‘old people’ come to school Tuesday, Jan. 28th! -Kindergarten Field Trip: Kindergarten students will be going to the Jack Hartmann concert on Thursday, Jan. 30th. The field trip form will be sent home Wednesday, Jan. 22nd. Please make sure to complete and return this form no later than, Wednesday, Jan. 29th if you would like your child to attend the field trip. -1st Grade Field Trip: 1st grade students are going on a field trip to Astro Skate on Friday, Jan. 31st. During this field trip students will use science, technology and engineering to participate in centers. Students will also solve real world math problems that would occur every day in the Astro Skating center. If you would like your child to attend this field trip please return the permission slip form no later than Thursday, Jan. 30th.

We will be showing a movie, play games, and have crafts!
CHILDREN WILL BE SUPERVISED BY LEVEL 2 VOLUNTEERS

Kids have the option to wear their PJ’s, bring a pillow, and their favorite blanket!

This week students built balloon rockets with
string, balloons and straws. The students took
turns setting off their rockets and had a great
time! I am so proud of how independent they have
become with building. We completed our vocabulary
challenge and worked on STEM bins for team
building creative thinking time.

Math: This week we will continue learning
multiplication facts (5s and 10s). We will
review double digit addition and subtraction problems. We will also focus
on ordering numbers from least to greatest
and vice versa.
Science: This week we will focus on animal adaptations and how they help
different animals to survive. We will also
continue our Lego Robotics program.
Social Studies: We will be learning about Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated.

Discovery Academy of Science 1/13-1/17 Mr. Henrie: Physical Education
This Week
Here at the South Campus of DAS we have continued our Hockey unit. This week we fo-
cused on passing and continued practicing our stick handling. Stick handling is how hockey
players move the ball/puck around the playing surface. We also introduced friendly hockey
shooting. Students really enjoyed being able to play goalie and have friendly competition
with each other. Popular hockey activities this week included “Stick handling challenge”,
“Passing with a Partner”, and “Shooting on the Goalie Challenge”

dress shoes or boots, please pack their sneakers to change into! Thank you
