Conjugación Verbal en Español

Spanish verb conjugation is a bit more complex than English. By conjugation it is understood the way the verb ending changes according to the person and number. The way we conjugate in Spanish depends on the infinitive verb endings and there are three of them: -ar, -er, -ir.

The person “ persona ” shows us the voice talking, whether it’s 1st, 2nd

or 3rd person. Yo & Nosotros = 1st person. Tú & Ustedes = 2nd person. Él/Ella & Ellos = 3rd person.

The number “ número ” shows us whether the person talking is only

one, that is “ singular ”, or there are some other people talking at once that is “plural ”.

Yo, Tú and Él/Ella are singular. Nosotros, Ustedes and Ellos are plural.

-AR Conjugation - Present

Infinitive regular verb ending in –ar: cantar, saltar, bailar, comprar, buscar, mirar, escuchar, contar, etc.

Yo miro Tú miras Él / Ella mira Nosotros miramos Ustedes miran Ellos miran

The verb endings for the ar conjugation are then:

-a, -as, -a, -amos, -an, -an

La Conjugación Verbal In Spanish we have three kinds of verbs. We classify them according to their infinitive verb ending in –ar, -er and –ir. Depending on their verb ending we will then conjugate them different.

All infinitives end in –ar, -er, -ir. When we have the infinitive of the verb we need to take those –ar, -er, -ir endings and change them depending on the person we are talking about – él, nosotros, ellos etc. (Personal Pronouns).

Los Verbos y Sus Familias

You know that in Spanish we have 3 families of verbs. What we call infinitive verbs are all those which end in –R and they give the name to the verb and the different endings. The first family consists of all the infinitive verbs which end in –AR, the second with those ending in –ER and the third ending in –IR.

Write the corresponding number of the verb forms below to their infinitive (verb name). Write their meaning in English and then the family it belongs to. Follow the example.
