Conjunctions
A conjunction joins words or groups of words.
There are three kinds of conjunctions:
• coordinating conjunctions
• correlative conjunctions• subordinating
conjunctions.
Coordinating conjunctions may join:
• single words• groups of words
They always connect items of the same kind.
Examples:
• baseball and tennis (two nouns)
• at home or in the library (two prepositional phrases)
• Kate has arrived, but she was late. (two complete ideas or simple sentences)
