Thank you to those who have responded to the appeal for newspaper. The plan is to use it as a base under woodchip on our gardens to com- bat the ongoing challenge of weeds. Cundletown The roof of the Cundletown building is in a very poor state of repair after many years of service. There are leaks and they will get worse. Church Council has decided to accept a quote of just under $13,000 to replace the roof. The money will come from our Sinking Fund, into which money has been paid each year in our budgets specifically for major maintenance issues. Funerals David Norling, John Dun and Ross Tingle have participated in meet- ings of the recently formed Biripi Aboriginal Medical Corporation Taree Churches Partnership. One of the topics discussed has been the particular issues around funerals of Koori people. As a result, we were asked to assist with catering at Bushland after a Koori funeral on Wednesday and we thank congregation members who cooked slices to assist with this. Community Garden Church Council agreed to a request from the Garden Committee for the removal of the existing, outdated sign and its temporary replace- ment with a banner tied to the existing poles. A more permanent sign facing both ways along Main Street will be erected later. Cont’d page 2

NEWS FROM CHURCH COUNCIL Grounds Have you noticed how much better our grounds are looking? Work-for-the dole man Merv Ping has been doing a terrific job, under the super-vision and with the help of Ross Tingle. He has also been doing good work at the manse. SOUTHERN ZONE COMING EVENTS Southern Zone Meeting will be held in our Auditorium, 9.30—12 noon this coming Tuesday 13th September. Ethical Ministry Seminar, for Ministers and Lay Leaders, will follow in the

afternoon 1-4pm. The subject this time is GIFTS.

Tuesday 20 September: Pastoral Counselling Institute training semi-nars at South West Rocks Uniting Church, 9:30am to 2:30pm Develop your skills in listening and caring. Cost $35, please bring you own lunch. See Lyn Dun if you would like to register for this.

Monday 26 September: Special Meeting of Congregational Leaders and Presbytery Committees at Port Macquarie Uniting Church. This is a strategic planning meeting with Ian Goff from Sydney Presbytery. All con-gregations are asked to be represented at this meeting.

Understanding the Sacraments: This is part of the requirements to be a Lay Presider but is open to anyone who is interested in participating. It runs over 4 days: Friday & Saturday 7th & 8th October and Friday & Satur-day 18th & 19th November at Gloucester Uniting Church. Cost is $150 for the 4 days.

Used stamps for missions. Don’t forget to bring in those used stamps and place them in the container in the foyer. Remember to leave plenty of room around the stamps. Thank you.

Prayer requests for the prayer group, or for prayer within a Sunday ser-vice, can be written on the prayer cards available on the reception counter.

CUNDLETOWN SPRING MARKETS The Cundletown Spring Markets are happening this Sunday 11 September between 9am and 1pm in the grounds of the Uniting Church Community Gardens in Cundletown. Horticulturalist Theo Van Winsen will be present-ing another informative gardening talk at 9.30am. Refreshments will be available. Church members are encouraged to attend following church and support the markets. Please encourage friends and neighbours to come along. People interested in having a stall are asked to contact organiser Megan on 0425 265 632. Stall sites are $10. Public liability insurance must be supplied to Megan prior to setting up the stall. All money raised goes to the welfare work done by the Manning Uniting Church.

trees and herbs Purchase of flags reading GARDEN, OPEN and MARKETS, using

funds from the $500 annual sponsorship by Manning Valley Live-stock and Real Estate.

Planning of future plantings Ideas for communication with, and engagement of, the congregation Possibility of a family activity day in the school holidays in combina-

tion with Uniting Discussion of an appropriate name for the centre at Cundletown.
