STUDENT EXPERIENCE
My experience at SCBE has been nothing short of enriching and exciting.
Besides the rigour of the academic curriculum, I had the opportunity to take on
leadership roles through the NTU Students’ Union Council and the SCBE Club.
These made my undergraduate journey an unforgettable one as I forged strong
friendships with my peers in the Club, gained invaluable management skills, and
grew in many personal aspects. My internship at Exploit Technologies Pte Ltd,
the technology transfer office of A*STAR, was a fulfilling one, with plenty of
opportunities for me to experience an actual working environment.
Engineering education with CoE is definitely one which develops creativity, critical
thinking and problem solving skills that can be applied not only to work
environments but also to our personal lives.

I was always struck by the helpfulness and warmth of the faculty and staff. The
professors were always generous in sharing their knowledge, the administrative staff
were prompt in rendering help and the lab technicians were patient in accommodating
experiential learning. I was fortunate to be given the privilege to embark on three
separate trips with the school - a business trip to Shanghai under the Professional
Attachment programme; a 10-day exchange programme to Tokyo; and an international
bridge design competition in Melbourne. These opportunities enabled me to learn from
the best practices around the world and gave me great exposure to overseas
construction industries. I have also honed my interpersonal, leadership and time
management skills during these four years.
If I were asked to sum up my experience at NTU CoE in three words,
it would be fun, fulfilling and fascinating.

My undergraduate journey with SCE will remain very memorable.
The professors are not only enthusiastic and supportive, but very knowledgeable in
the subjects they teach. This is very important as it motivates the students to learn
the subject.
In my second year, I had the invaluable opportunity to embark on an overseas exchange
programme to Sweden. This 6-month programme allowed me to immerse in another
culture and make new friends from different parts of the world. It was an unforgettable
experience and I became more independent and confident.
I was also given the chance to do internships in both Citigroup and J.P. Morgan Chase &
Co in my third year. These were very enriching experiences as I was able to experience
the life of an IT professional in the financial industry. SCE has prepared me well for my
career and I was able to apply the skills learnt in school in achieving my task at work. I am
also fortunate to be offered a full-time position as an analyst at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.

Life at CoE had been an amazing experience. Education in EEE focuses
not only on the learning of fundamental knowledge, but also on the practical application of
knowledge. At EEE, we are always encouraged to innovate and think out of the box. This has
allowed us to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills to come out with creative
solutions for the ever-changing world. EEE also has a strong and excellent network of
industry partners, which provides us with the opportunities to work in top-notch local and
foreign companies. The Professional Internship programme allowed me to gain actual
working experiences even before I graduated.
There were also ample opportunities for global exposure. I was lucky to be able to go to
Hong Kong for my Summer Studies and to Laos and Myanmar for the EEE Leadership,
Enrichment and Development (LEAD) overseas community involvement programmes and
overseas cultural programmes. These were unforgettable and wonderful experiences as
I was able to explore different cultures and broaden my horizons.

participation rate in overseas attachments that would eventually benefit up to 80% of our
student population.
Degree Programme in
Materials Engineering
Materials Science and Engineering is a confluence
of chemistry, physics, biology and engineering
mathematics. Here, you will master the basic structure
and properties of various materials and understand
how they can be designed, processed and modified to
enhance their performance to suit specific needs.
Building on fundamental knowledge, you will
further discover and learn about nanomaterials
for biomedical applications, environmental and
sustainable energy applications, advanced
functional materials for defence systems and sports
applications, flexible and nanoelectronic materials
for future smart technologies, and many more
revolutionary materials application.
In addition, four specialisation tracks will be offered in
the areas of Medical Materials, Industrial Materials
Engineering, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, and
Innovation and Intellectual Property. Students in their
final year can choose to be exposed to such niche
areas so as to enhance their repertoire. The chosen
track will subsequently be reflected on the academic
transcript.

STUDENT EXPERIENCE
Apart from the rigorous academic curriculum that equips
us with the knowledge required for hands-on learning,
I also had many other opportunities for personal
development. These included conducting undergraduate
research, representing MSE at the University Scholars
Leadership Symposium in Hong Kong, taking part in an
overseas community involvement programme in Laos
and organising events such as the MSE Freshmen
Orientation Camp. Through these opportunities,
I acquired new skills, gained exposure to different
situations, and increased my awareness and
understanding of problems around the world, which, in
turn, have broadened my global perspective.
I am also very blessed to have met very kind friends and
caring mentors. I really appreciate the fact that MSE
matches every undergraduate with a professor as our
school mentor. My mentor would meet up with me twice
every semester to check on my progress, offer guidance
when needed, and give advice on both academic and
non-academic related matters.

MAE is a school with a supportive learning
environment. There is a culture of sharing among
peers, between seniors and juniors; and the forming
of support networks and study groups.
I also like the school's teaching approach which
incorporates experiential and hands-on learning in the
form of lab experiments and class activities, etc.
Furthermore, the school provides numerous
opportunities for skills and talent development, such
as its Leadership Development Programme (LDP),
which I am proud to be a part of. The LDP has allowed
me to embark on a journey of self-discovery and meet
like-minded individuals who wish to make a positive
difference to our learning community.
I have confidence that the technical competencies and
soft skills and knowledge gained during these 4 years
will enable me to stay relevant, versatile and excel in
the workplace.
