Miami-Dade County Public Schools experienced another successful National College Fair last month. More than 10,000 students had the opportunity to meet with representatives from some 200 colleges and universities.

M-DCPS STUDENTS, EMPLOYEES SUPPORT UNITED WAYMiami-Dade County Public Schools celebrated another successful United Way Campaign with 388 locations meeting or exceeding their goal. Students collected $521,534 and employees collected $946,898 for a total of $1,468,432 to help our neediest in the community. M-DCPS continues to be the #1 school system campaign in the nation, a testament to the kind and caring culture created by its leadership. Top student campaigns were at the following schools: William Lehman Elementary, W.R. Thomas Middle, North County K-8, Young Women’s Preparatory Academy, Hialeah High Adult Education Center, and Miami MacArthur South.

What is M-DCPS’ approach to homework? There has been much local and national discussion regarding the effectiveness and appropriateness of homework. Three years ago, the school district diligently worked with educators, administrators, parents andthe Family and Community Involvement Advisory Committee to formulate an updated homework policy. It is both manageable and meaningful with an emphasis on quality over quantity and depth over length and repetition. The new policy addresses the whole child and provides students with ample time for their physical,cultural, social and emotional growth. DESERVING M-DCPS SENIORS GET THE PROM EXPERIENCE OF THEIR DREAMS“Say Yes to the Prom” arrived in Miami for the third year in a row to provide prom dresses, shoes and accessories for nearly 200 underserved and academically high-achieving young women, and for the first time ever - young men. Students from Booker T. Washington Senior, Homestead Senior and Hialeah Senior were treated to a day of prom dresses, tuxedos, accessory “shopping” and glam sessions alongside TLC’s fashion director Monte Durham.

ESTUDIANTES MERECEDORES DE LAS M-DCPS OBTIENEN LA EXPERIENCIA DE SUS SUEÑOS PARA EL BAILE DE GRADUACIÓN“Say Yes to the Prom” llegó a Miami por tercer año consecutivo para proporcionar vestidos de graduación, zapatos y accesorios a casi 200 jovencitas que tienen pocos recursos pero que tienen alto rendimiento académico y por primera vez – jovencitos también. Se les brindó a los estudiantes de las escuelas secundarias Booker T. Washington Senior High, Homestead Senior High y Hialeah Senior High, un día de vestidos de graduación, esmóquines, “compras” de accesorios y sesiones de ‘glam’ junto al director de moda de la cadena televisiva TLC, Monte Durham.
