High performance superplasticising admixture
Uses
! To provide excellent acceleration of strength gain at earlyages and major increases in strength at all ages bysignificantly reducing water demand in a concrete mix.
! Particularly suitable for precast concrete and other highearly strength requirements.
! To significantly improve the workability of site mixed andprecast concrete without increasing water demand.
! To provide improved durability by increasing ultimatestrengths and reducing concrete permeability.
Advantages
! Major increases in strength at early ages without increasedcement contents are of particular benefit in precastconcrete, allowing earlier stripping times.
! Makes possible major reductions in water:cement ratiowhich allow the production of high strength concretewithout excessive cement contents.
! Use in production of flowing concrete permits easierconstruction with quicker placing and compaction andreduced labour costs without increasing water content.
! Increased workability levels are maintained for longer thanwith ordinary sulphonated melamine admixtures.
! Improved cohesion and particle dispersion minimisessegregation and bleeding and improves pumpability.
! Chloride free, safe for use in prestressed and reinforcedconcrete.
Standards compliance
Conplast SP430 conforms with BSEN 934-2, BS 5075 Part 3and with ASTM C494 as Type A and Type F, depending ondosage used.
Conplast SP430 complies with the requirements of theUnited Kingdom Water Fittings Byelaws Scheme and is listedin the Directory of Materials as suitable for use in contact withpotable water under its previous name of Conplast 430.
Description
Conplast SP430 is a chloride free, superplasticisingadmixture based on selected sulphonated napthalenepolymers. It is supplied as a brown solution which instantlydisperses in water.
Conplast SP430 disperses the fine particles in the concretemix, enabling the water content of the concrete to performmore effectively. The very high levels of water reductionpossible allow major increases in strength to be obtained.
Technical support
Fosroc provides a technical advisory service for on-siteassistance and advice on mix design, admixture selection, evaluation trials and dispensing equipment.
Dosage
The optimum dosage of Conplast SP430 to meet specificrequirements should always be determined by trial mixesusing the materials and conditions that will be experiencedin use.
For high strength, water reduced concrete the normal dosagerange is from 1.00 to 3.00 litres/100 kg of cementitiousmaterial, including PFA, GGBFS and microsilica. For highworkability concrete the normal dosage range is from 0.70 to2.00 litres/100 kg of cementitious material.
Use at other dosages
Dosages outside the typical ranges quoted above can beused to meet particular requirements. Contact Fosroc foradvice.
Effects of overdosing
An overdose of double the amount of Conplast SP430 willresult in an increase in retardation as compared to thatnormally obtained. Provided that adequate curing ismaintained, the ultimate strength of the concrete will not beimpaired by increased retardation and will generally beincreased. The effects of overdosing will be further increasedif sulphate resisting cement or cement replacement materialsare used.

Instructions for use
Mix design
Where the main requirement is to improve strengths, initialtrials should be made with normal concrete mix designs. The addition of the admixture will allow the removal of waterfrom the mix whilst maintaining workability. After initial trials, minor modifications to the overall mix design may be madeto optimise performance.

Where the main requirement is to provide high workabilityconcrete, the mix design should be one suitable for use as apump mix. Advice on mix design for flowing concrete is availablefrom Fosroc.
Compatibility
Conplast SP430 is compatible with other Fosroc admixturesused in the same concrete mix. All admixtures should be addedto the concrete separately and must not be premixed togetherprior to addition. The resultant properties of concrete containingmore than one admixture should be assessed by trial mixes.
Conplast SP430 is suitable for use with all types of Portlandcements, SRC cements and cement replacement materialssuch as PFA, GGBFS and microsilica.
The use of a combination of admixtures in the same concretemix and or cement replacements may alter the setting time. Trialsshould always be conducted to determine such setting times.
Dispensing
The correct quantity of Conplast SP430 should be measuredby means of a recommended dispenser. Normally, theadmixture should then be added to the concrete with the mixingwater to obtain the best results. Where high workability concreteis required from normal workability concrete delivered to site,Conplast SP430 may also be added to concrete direct into areadymix truck. Full blending of the admixture and the concreteshould be ensured by mixing at high speed for a period of atleast two minutes.
Contact Fosroc for advice regarding suitable equipment andits installation.
Storage
Conplast SP430 has a minimum shelf life of 12 monthsprovided the temperature is kept within the range of 2°C to50°C. Should the temperature of the product fall outside thisrange contact Fosroc for advice.
Freezing point: Approximately -2°C
