Entering the market with a totally new format was just the first of many challenges. We had to translate and adapt more than 100 original scripts to the Latin American reality; in terms of volume alone, this was a major challenge. Finally, we had to design and organise a mammoth casting session for ‘ordinary’ people to fill the almost 650 roles that the series requires. “Would you like to take part in a new TV series? But we need you not to have any acting experience please...”. We never expected a turn-out of more than 2,500 ‘amateur actors’. This proved the tremendous interest that the audience had in taking up the challenge. After the success of the recordings, the broadcaster made a risky decision: they scheduled the format in primetime, where it succeeded in increasing the slot share and delivered great numbers in a slot that hadn’t delivered good numbers before. After a first run in primetime, the series will be broadcast in its original planned slot, allowing us to truly assess the ratings impact of this fantastic series.
