Typically, such works will involve one or more of cable-based lifting, bar-based lifting and hydraulic jacking.

All of our lifting projects have the same number one priority - safety. Our track record of successful lifts is second to none. We pride ourselves on our quality execution from initial concept right through to on-site works and project completion.

The closer to the ground that large elements can be constructed reduces the critical risk to workers of working at heights.

There is no real limit to the size of the load that can be lifted. Successfully relocating a fragile, single-piece structure weighing 2,000 tonnes - we like to think that “the sky is the limit!”

Heavy lifting services available include:

 Engineering design or review

 Hydraulic-jack lifting systems

 Threaded-bar lifting systems

 High-tensile strand lifting systems

Heavy lifting could be defined as the erection or

relocation of any significant structure without

the use of craneage.

Construction procedures involving load handling systems often result in considerable savings as compared to conventional building methods using traditional scaffold for casting concrete or installing steel structural elements in place.

The application of load handling systems requires full consideration at the structural design stage, well in advance of detailing or construction planning. Selecting and designing the necessary temporary works and choosing the related equipment must be performed as early as possible.

SRG has extensive experience in the field of load handling and can provide all of the required services for design as well as supply and operation of equipment.

Typical application of SRG load handling include:

Lifting, lowering and shifting of heavy loads Precast beams, entire bridges, roofs, floors and other structural elements built on site or at the factory are lifted in place by means of bars, strands or wire cables and hydraulic jacks.

Rotating bridges Structures built with formwork in a convenient position can be rotated after completion into the final position.

Working platforms Typically on a large projects or where access is challenging, working platforms can be manipulated into position using our load handling techniques.

Installation of large tendons In the case of long and heavy tendons, special equipment is required for handling and installation.

Cable-stayed falsework The truss for building the structure is supported by stay cables replacing expensive temporary supports. Lifting equipment for handling heavy loads is attached to the auxiliary tower required for anchoring the stay and backstay cables.

Load handling relates to the shifting, sliding, lifting

or lowering of heavy loads using jacking equipment

instead of cranes.

This method is a very useful means of constructing a bridge over an active road, rail corridor or water.

Bridges are cast in segments behind an abutment under controlled conditions. As a result, high concrete quality and precise dimensions are assured. Reinforcement crosses each joint in addition to the bonded prestressing tendons as each new segment is cast directly against the already cured one in front.

The concentric prestress required during launching guarantees an excellent, relatively maintenance free performance of the bridge during its lifetime.

By avoiding costly and time consuming false work, and by concentrating all construction activities in the small fabrication area, considerable savings in cost and time compared with conventional bridge construction are achieved.

The main characteristics of the incremental launching method are:

Production of a continuous, site cast concrete superstructure.

Casting in long sections in a stationary, multiple use form behind an abutment.

After longitudinal shifting (launching) of a completed

section along the bridge axis, the next section is cast against the previous one and they are stressed together.

In this sequence the overall superstructure grows by adding new sections, step-by-step as the progressively completed girder is launched.

Temporary sliding bearings and guides at each pier facilitate the steady travel of the structure.

A steel launching nose at the front, sliding bearings, and a casting bay behind the abutment.

Some preferred requirements are:

The girders should have a constant curvature in horizontal and vertical alignment.

The section should be continuous over the whole bridge with preferably a constant depth.

Span typically limited to 50-60 metres.

Span / depth ratios are in the range of 14 to 18.

The incremental launching method combines

the advantages of precast segmental construction

with those of cast insitu methods.
