What is the Construction Careers program? The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) OnBoard4Jobs Construction Careers program helps people find jobs on roadway construction projects with local contractors. This includes hiring workers for On-the-Job Training programs.
The program focus is to recruit a viable construction workforce and increase the number of minorities, females and veterans on federal and state-funded roadway construction contracts. The program provides opportunities to unemployed adults, as well as graduating high school seniors, to secure jobs with industry leading contractors.
What are the requirements to be included in the program? • At least 18 years old • Able to lift 50 lbs to 90 lbs • Eligible to work in the United States • Transportation - car, truck, bus or other means • Ability to work outdoors • Reliable and committed to work • Drug free
Is this program free to job seekers? Yes, this program is free to job seekers and contractors.
What type of jobs are available?There are many types of jobs available in the roadway construction industry. Examples include: • General workers (laborers) • Traffic control (flaggers) • Pipe layers • Paving workers • Welders • Concrete workers • Carpenters • Heavy Machinery operators
Do you have to have experience to qualify for a job?No, entry level and experienced workers are encouraged to enroll. If you are a hard worker, have the ability to work outdoors and are willing to learn new skills, enroll today.
Is training available?Yes, contractors will train you. You may even qualify for a Federal On-the-Job Training program. The On-the-Job Training program teaches workers new skills which provides more job opportunities in the construction field.
How much will I make an hour?The job you perform determines the wage. As you gain experience your pay may increase.
How do I enroll in the program?Visit OnBoard4Jobs.com/cccforms/jobseeker-form.php to complete our online enrollment form. Make sure to attach your resume or a list of jobs you have worked.
What happens once I enroll? Once you enroll in the program, a Construction Careers staff member will contact you to determine what type of work you are looking for and what location. They will then contact many contractors in the area and provide your contact information. Contractors may contact you for a personal interview. If you are interviewed and/or hired, please let us know so we may update our records.
