Clear vegetation and material from construction entrance area

Install filter cloth• Make it wide enough

for all vehicles entering the site

• Widen towards road to prevent tracking of mud onto roadways

Secure cloth with U-shaped wire staples• Use mallet to ensure

staples will not be dislodged

Place large stones along the length of the cloth• Make sure stone layer

is 6” deep

Your actions can affect the quality of our waterways and your project. By properly installing and maintaining sediment and erosion control practices, you can help keep our waterways free from pollutants such as pesticides, construction chemi-cals, asphalts, and acids that contaminate stormwater runoff.

Improperly installed sediment and erosion control can result in stop work orders, fines, and even jail time. Keep your site in compli-ance by following these simple instructions for installing and maintaining construction entrances and silt fences.

If a construction entrance and silt fence do not adequately control sediment runoff, the City may require additional measures, in coordination with the permittee.

wrap fabric together at posts and secure both pieces

Make sure fabric has wire back• Secure wire support to uphill side of fence• Use wire staples to secure• Extend wire into the trench

Backfill the trench and cover the fabric

Compact the backfill

Keep fence length under 100 feet • If longer distance is needed,

install multiple fences in a “J” pattern

Install a double row of silt fencing when working adjacent to waterways (required)
