Introduction

This is a presentation that I am going to be talking about how we added sound effects and non – diegetic music to our two minute psychological thriller using the Premiere Pro editing software. I will being going through the entire process, from finding the music on YouTube, to ripping it and from adding the music and sound effects on our film.

Step One – Finding the music on YouTube

Before we started adding the sound effects and non-diegetic music to our film we had to find certain sound effects and the appropriate non- diegetic music that would fit in well with our film and the certain scenes that we want to add them to.

To find our sound effects and background music for our film, we used YouTube to search through the number of sound effects that we could find.

In total we ended up using one sound effect and two non-diegetic music. We used a heart beat sound effect when Danika the killer crossing out Jane’s face from the circled photograph. We found two relevant non – diegetic sounds that we used in our film. One of the music was the one we used at the start of the film and throughout the film. The second background music was used for the flashback scene, both of the non-diegetic music we used help to build more tension throughout the film.

When we had found the sound effects and the non-diegetic music we downloaded the music files from YouTube to an MP3 file, using YouTube converter and then added then to the premiere pro editing software.

Step Two – Adding music to the film.

After we found our sound effects and non-diegetic music and transferred it to the editing software, we then had to decide were we wanted to add the sound effects and non-diegetic music to.

Adding music to the film sequence we had to select the music and move it across under the film sequence. We had to cut some parts of the music sequences as it went over the scene were we wanted the non – diegetic music to be. We did this by using the editing tools on premiere pro software. When we had sorted out the lengths of each sound effect and non-diegetic music we then had to add sound transitions to make the different non-diegetic music and sound effects flow with one another, this was called exponential fade and constant gain. This makes the ending and the beginning of each non-diegetic music and sound effect fade into each other so it makes the music flow and fit with one another more effectively .

When this was done we had finished adding the sound effects and non-diegetic music, all was left at this point was adding titles to the film and burning the disc.

Step Three - In this side I am going to be showing an range of print screens that I took from our editing software showing how the sound effects were added and the non – diegetic music to our film sequence. As you can see we added different background music and used the exponential fade and a constant gain to the sound effects and background music to make the different sounds flow and constant.

Finally you can see that we have also played around with the volume on the different sound effects and non-diegetic music. This makes the music and film it self more dramatic and changes the music up making our target audience more entertained in our film.
